Extended Thoughts on: Dr. Magnum Roux/Heather Stuart

For this Extended Thoughts, I'm... actually gonna cut the snark. And I might not talk about writing the character, specifically. That's because something happened during this character that's very important, and going to be even more important moving forward.
So I've always seen writing, even writing commissions, as a hobby. Getting paid was just a bonus, and it was fun to work with people and bring their vision to life. As such, I wrote whenever I felt like it, and only when I felt like it, which meant that as I fell into a depression, I wrote less and less. Characters that used to take a week were taking a month.
But an important thing happened this summer: I was... swamped with commissions. Enough that it was almost a bit intimidating. And I realised I couldn't work at the pace I was currently working.
So I shifted the writing from a hobby to a 'job'. And it has been incredibly helpful.
I'm back to writing ten stages a day. I feel accomplished at the end of the day, no matter how many stages I wrote. And the coolest thing of all is I look forward to my 'shifts'. That's a privilege I'm very lucky to have.
And I have all of you to thank.
I know I'm being way too schmaltzy here, but I really am grateful for all of you, and every one of you helped make this a 'job'. It doesn't matter if you were one of the commissioners, or if you tried a single character, got bored with the minigames, and quit: every one of you has turned this little hobby into something I'm quite proud of. I can only hope you all enjoy my characters as much as I've enjoyed writing them.
Okay, enough Hallmark BS: it's back to the usual list of trivia, and back to the usual pithy snark.
- As always, the story of the name comes first, and this one's a doozy. I don't think I've been this proud of a name since Eddie 'The Ruffian' Clyde. Magnum is Latin for 'great', is too pompous to be a real name, and is in reality a surname. Roux has 'Rx' in it (like the doctor thing!), and is a fatty brown broth. And there's a hidden detail to Dr. Roux's name: both the first and last name are based on two sex doctors, Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld and Dr. Ruth. Does any of this matter? Not one bit! But names are one of my many strange and esoteric kinks and I'm gonna force them into every thing I write, sue me.
- I picked Heather Stuart's name because I like the name Heather, and Stuart sounds like Roux. All hail my Dickensian power of naming.
- I thankfully didn't have to do research into '''influencer''' videos, since I stan Rina Sawayama and her Youtube channel is pretty... vlog-based? The kinda cringe fandom names, the overly peppy demeanour, the constant calls to action... I got most of that from watching Rina, and a smattering of other content creators. Don't tell her I said that, cuz you obviously talk to her all the time about niche porn writers.
- Eclectic music mix for this one. From lo-fi and city pop, to Renard's back catalogue to Coldplay sped up to 1.5 times speed (if you know, you know...)
- I found out I can colour text! That's why Heather's 'influencer voice' is pink, but did you know that I also pinkened all instances of the word Heather to better match how the word Magnum is automatically coloured? ...Well I did. Now you know, or whatever.
My question: What's your favourite Youtube channel? Or what's a channel that you're into now? I've been watching aGameScout, a channel about professional Tetris. Only played it a couple of times, but I like hearing people talk about it!

I'm really glad you're enjoying this and feeling back up to snuff! After all, what we're all here for at the end of the day is to have fun, and if you're looking forward to them? That's the best kind of job! ^^

Good to hear you're enjoying it again! Lately, I've been checking this British show called Taskmaster. They've been posting full episodes on their youtube channel. I found it quite funny at it's been filling my time as of recent.
