Got shared this in a discord group a few minutes ago, gave it a good read through, and it hit a lot of points I wish I had internalized a good many months ago.
As someone who did this, and had to learn the hard way, I strongly recommend taking heed to what is stated above, and analyze the relationships you hold.
Finding out you have one of these before the fact and dealing with it in a healthy manor before it becomes a problem, is good.
Don't idolize something fictitious, respect and admire it, and admire and respect the person, or people, behind it. Make friends with people, use and create and work with people, so that the character is simply a layer, not the whole onion.
(though this isn't to say you can't love designs and shows in artistry in affection, just make sure you understand where your emotions and desires lie.)

Main thing is not being transparent about it, or if people don't see it and think they are like forming a full on relationship where none exists. That's when things can start getting...harmful. Can feel free to poke me for more in-depth discussion though! Should you want tooo >3<
I confess, this is why I don't get too involved in fandoms anymore, as I KNOW from past experience how prone I am to becoming overly invested in fictional characters and real people who don't even know who I am.
Even this year I found myself getting super upset about not having comments acknowledged/responded to on the social media of Youtubers, so I block their accounts to Block myself.
I just don't want to become a 'bunny boiler', I've seen fellow 'fans' go down that path, and thankfully my obsession stays within my head and conversation with loved ones.
Indeed, just, very much indeed. I for one don't tend to get overly addicted to fictional things, passionate? sure. but to the point of obsession? not usually. But, it did happen once...and like, spiraling down that rabbit hole hurts both you and the one that you spiraled for, especially if you actually made a connection with the person behind it but to you all you saw was the character.
It's important to understand that there are people behind these things, and that they aren't just there for you. A comment might have been overlooked do to a myriad of reasons, could sound like one of the many above or bellow it, could just not be something they feel needed a response outside of silent appreciation. Could just be if they responded to you they set a president that they need to respond to allll comments like that and that would just take up to much time.
It's great to get recognized for your passion toward a character or subject, but never let passion become obsession, cause obsession can easily twist to loathing, hatred and contempt.
