Where do you fit in the fandom?
Exactly as the title states. You wouldn't think it'd be a difficult question, and for most, it probably isn't.
I've been in the fandom over 15 years now.
Fifteen years.
That's a hell of a long time to commit to any one thing, let-alone a weird subculture based around anthropomorphic animals on the internet. And yet, here I am, grey muzzle and all.
But still, I recently asked myself this question, and realized 'Huh, I don't actually have a quick answer to that.'. I'm not just here for the art. I'm not just here to share my writing. I'm not just here to meet folks and have a good time. It's all of that and so much more.
Sincerely, this fandom is the reason I live the awesome life I do. Without it, I'd have never met my lovely wife of nearly a decade, would have never built the awesome family I have, and certainly wouldn't be the same arrogant prick with a grin I am!
Without it, I may well have died on at least two separate occasions. When I was younger and in darker places and just kind of gave up on life, and just in the last 12 months, when my liver went ahead and tried to do that anyway without the rest of my body's consent. Without it, I'd have been staring down bills at the worst possible times without a means to cover them. Without the fandom, the dream would have ended for me years ago.
That's a oddly hard thing to admit.
It's strange to say I feel indebted to this bizarre and wonderful subculture, but the truth is I do. It's part of why I stay around. Part of why I try to make it a better place for everyone through my interactions, and my volunteering as a moderator over at The Fox Den discord server, where I try and live up to my impromptu title of 'The Fox Dad', and be a helpful and (mostly ;3) wholesome mentor figure of sorts, so new furies can find their feet and maybe, just maybe, get the same kind of wealth from the fandom as I have. If I can make someone smile in a day, I've done well.
So here's my question to anyone who managed to read this far. (And I'm sure there's like, maybe a dozen of you at most :P)
Where do you fit in within the fandom? Is it just a smut thing? Is it a fun thing? Is it more than that? Let me know in the comments! I'm always interested to hear!
Oh, and September updates! Uh, Fire fire everywhere, and new job this week. Work is getting done slowly on stories!
