Professor Summer Vs Zeus Pone, Week 3
My weekly series has been brought out of retirement in part due to a challenge from
ZeusPegasus13 ! We'll be matching wits week to week, more correct selections in week is worth a point, aaaaannnd, there were be positioning in a lewd picture at the conclusion of the 17 week regular season at stake for whoever gets more points. We'll do our best to lock our picks in publicly, but 17 weeks is a long time, so trust that we'll be keeping it honest during non journal weeks.
Current score:
Summer 1
zeuspegasus13 1
For those unfamiliar, the positive or negative number of each pick reflects the "spread" that must be accounted for a pick to be successful. A negative number is subtracted from the given team's real life score, while a positive number is added to that teams real life score. For example. Team A -3.5 vs Team B. Real life score Team A 10 Team B 7. 3.5 is subtracted from Team A, for a pick score of Team A 6.5 Team B 7. Team B is the "correct" pick and Team A is wrong.
Week 2 recap: I got 2 of 3 correct, the pone went 3 for 3. Not much I can do about that other than try again this week.
Pick 1
Minnesota Vikings +2.5 to defeat Tennessee Titans
After a disappointing loss to the Packers in week 1 that really was just the result of a 14 point swing at the end of the first half, the Vikings went out and just totally collapsed in week 2. They're at home, they're playing a Titans team that I don't think is that good, actually, and they're desperate to get into the win column for the year. Taking the Vikings and the point boost here.
Result: Vikings 30 (+2.5 = 32.5) Titans 31 CORRECT, technically, thanks to the spread. I'll take it.
Pick 2
Philadelphia Eagles -4 to defeat Cincinnati Bengals.
Another team at home and trying to shake off a disappointing 0-2 start is the Eagles. They need a confidence booster and I feel like the real life team would feel a narrow win to be just as bad as an actual loss, so I don't expect them to let off the gas if/when they get a lead. Eagles cover the -4 spread.
Result: Eagles 23 (-4 = 19) Bengals 23 WRONG. I feel bad but Eagles fans must be feeling worse about their real life tie.
Pick 3
Denver Broncos +5.5 to defeat Tampa Bay Buccaneers
And on this pick the trend develops into a theme for the week, home team off to an 0-2 start trying to right their ship. There were preseason rumbles of legitimacy in Denver, and they were game against the Steelers even after their starting quarterback was knocked out of the game, they just came up short. I'm well known to be anti-Tom Brady, and I really think he's washed. I see the Denver pass rush harassing him all day and Tom having a bad time. The added 5.5 points is a bonus, I like Denver today.
Result: Broncos 10 (+6 = 16) Buccaneers 28. WRONG. Oof. Swing and a miss on that one.

Titans -2.5 > Vikings NO
Buccaneers -5.5 > Broncos YES
Cardinals -5.5 > Lions NO
The Pone and I both washed out at 1-2 on the day, a tie. We remain knotted up 1-1 heading into week 4.

OP
I legit thought of you when I saw the score result. Really wanted to see Philly get on track, but that tie makes the 0-2 start beforehand seem even more real. Coach has gotta be on the hot seat, if not Carson, too.
