Goddamn stupid pet owners!

You guys. I live in the ghetto, right? Everyone is scared of my dog. Have you seen pictures of him? How does he look scary? He's black and has some Rottie in him? Ok, I guess, but I don't understand how people can be scared of a well behaved dog.
When kids go by on bikes, I make him sit so he doesn't scare them. They're still scared of him.
He walks by my side on the leash and doesn't pull.
There's this black family down the street that ALWAYS sits on the porch and yells stuff at me when I walk by, such as "DERE GOES DAT DAWG GURL AGEEN!" and "DAT DAWG BITES! HE MEAN!" and other such annoyances. There was a guy from this house getting something out of his car, which was parked across the street from said house and he goes "OH YOUR DAWG BITES! HE VICIOUS!!" and sped-walked back across the street until I passed!
Loki was just like ":3?" as he always is and just wants to sniff people.
Mexicans are TERRIFIED of him (both houses next to me have Mexican families in them). If the kids are in their back yard playing, and I let Loki out, the kids run inside. What does Loki do? He sits about 4 feet from the fence and watches them play. No barking, no excited behavior.
Snobby people are also terrified of him, especially children. I guess it's because he's not a Lab or Retriever.
So... I was in a Petsmart check-out line yesterday, and there's a black mom and 2 or 3 year old girl in front of me. With a 9 or 10 week old Rottweiler puppy (she's just letting the dog crawl around on the floor!). The mom is talking to the clerk about dog training, so... she's not paying ANY attention to what the girl or puppy are doing. The puppy sees another dog and starts waddling over, the little girl flips a shit and YANKS back on the leash. The puppy just slides like 4 feet. The girl realizes she doesn't like it there, and YANKS back on the leash again. She tries to pick it up or pet it and it bites her! She swooshes it across the floor again, near my feet, and I felt so terrible. The puppy tried to hide behind me, and the little girl gave me this dirty look and yanked back with all her might. Me, B and the people behind me are like O_O. My heart was so broken, so I cleared my throat and gave the mom this disgusted look, and I think she felt my eyes boring a hole through her head cuz then she looked at me, looked at the dog, and then watched the dog sliiiide across the floor and that damned little girl pulling on it. She starts saying "why you bein' like dat, be nice! I thought I told you be nice!" and she scoops the dog up and leaves.
B and I placed bets that the dog will get put in the pound by the time it's 3 or 4 months old. :\ Seriously, Rotties need a lot of training and discipline, and I don't think that dog's gonna get it. It's going to be one of those neurotic dogs that bark and pace the fence, and then it's going to be a guard dog... just... ugh. I even bet the mother is going to be scared of it in a few months! If I had Loki with me, I bet they both would have been terrified... and to think, their dog is going to be... what... 3 times as big as mine?
I wish people would understand that a dog isn't some fuckin' ornament.

FA+

So many people confuse my bigger dog for a pit bull, its so annoying.
Hell they've even confused my corgi for a pitbull. My corgi!
WTF, it's like the only breeds they know are pitbulls and rottweilers! Arg!
After "Several" (a good five times) When I was around 3-7, of idiot owners (Not just one) Letting their wild dogs out, and I've been attacked several times. I have a rather neurotic attitude around dogs, unless its about the size of my foot, I freak out and have to hide away before I can do anything. I'd rather see most of these...Animals, just gone, but then again you'd probably get a better response from someone who doesn't have a sharp and painful past with these animals.
It's a shame that they gave you this perception of dogs. >.<
Yet my 2 dogs, anything but being in the "bully" breed, get sneers and such whenever I walk them. I dunno if it is cause they aren't part of the lifestyle they themselves are leading or cause of who is walking them...all I do know is my dogs miss their 3-4 mile walks on the weekends...
Sorry that you got people overreacting. Just ignore them and don't talk to them. Act like they don't exist and keep going. Obviously they are trying to "get" to you like the people around here do the same to us. Hell we can't even walk outside without some of the people who wander the streets around here making snide remarks.
I love big dogs, but I am very glad that my family has a little lapdog, because I am damn sure that I couldn't handle the responsibility of a big one.
It would be really nice if people like that woman at the checkout had similar realizations and restricted themselves to an appropriate pet...say, maybe a pet rock?
I'm sorry your Loki is getting treated so poorly by your community. Obviously, they have either seen bad rotti's or they've been taken in by the media.
There are no bad dogs. Just bad owners!
Oh yeah and there was this neighbour dog that was always barking at me when I came back home from school when I was kid. One day it leaped over the fence and chased me. While peddling as fast as I could I kicked it in the face when it grabbed/tried to grab my trouser leg. That could also be where my discomfort comes from. Let's just say I'm wary around dogs. :P
I like dogs, but I'm allergic. Cats too. So, I'm stuck with this bird that attacks other members of my family.
and thats pretty fucked up of that family and there abuse of that puppy i hope they wake up quick to what there doing is wrong or i an't gonna be sorry if that dog grows up hating people and bites them.
I don't completely understand why people are afraid of Loki-lu, BUT I don't think it's because he's black. I try to piece it together and I get this stereotypical assumption thing going on--he's a breed (two breeds, actually) of dog that is associated with law enforcement here. Be it in the ghetto or not, people recognize this factor, regardless of race and ethnicity. Even if people know they haven't done anything wrong, it's still that automatic way of thinking--oh snap, it's the po-po, I better be on my best behavior or my ass is grass. Or it's something spite related, because I honestly don't know too many people that have said they like cops (most people I know openly voice that they hate them, sadly enough), and the canines that police forces use are considered cops as well. Even people that don't have anything to do with cops have this kind of stigma. It just happens.
Loki is such a good dog, though; I adore him. If people have issues with him just by looking, then just keep moving on, I guess, because a lot of people, if you try to reason and explain to them, won't give a damn. They're not going to change, especially if they won't want to.
Cake! Miss you!

his whole family is afraid of his dog
some ppl are real tards :/
My dog doesn't poop anywhere BUT the yard. So that's sorta nice, I guess. :P
Some people are usually scared, or at least just awe-struck when they see my two Malamutes.. they're both pretty big.. but most of the time people just get surprised.
Kids are the WORST, though.. my two dogs are scared of kids (except when the kid is smart, which is, like, two of them) and they try to avoid them as much as possible.. but then sometimes the kids will think it's funny that my dogs are kind of scared.. and that leads to me having to keep the dogs with me, or yelling at the stupid kids to stop teasing them.
Ugh, but yes... people are fucking stupid.. I'm just glad I don't live in the total ghetto part of my city.
