PSA: How to get a better FurAffinity uploading experience
5 years ago
I usually don't make journals, but I'm making this one to tell everyone who follows me about an awesome browser extension that has made posting on this website less of a pain in the ass. If you dislike the uploading experience on FA (I know I do), then seriously try this way out. I did not get paid to make this post, I just think that this browser extension is great and genuinely improves the whole feel of the website, especially for people who upload things regularly.
Step 1 -
Have a Chromium based browser (Google Chrome or most other Chrome based browsers, personally I use Brave).
Step 2 -
Go to the Chrome Webstore and search for an extension called FABUI. Alternatively, click on the link to the extension's page: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/.....eimphnkhimiobi
Step 3 -
Add it to your browser.
Step 4 -
Click on the Upload button in the top left corner and you'll see a whole new view. Instead of having to pick what type of file you want to upload, it is totally intuitive. You simply drag your image into the browser and the file is loaded up for uploading in a slick new UI that's much more functional.
This UI isn't just a visual change, it also has other super useful functions like queuing images for multi-upload, presets for repeated tags and descriptions (handy if you want to post reusable Patreon links like I do), and even giving the option to disable the default FA compression so the image doesn't automatically resize to a max height/width of 1280. In addition to all of this, FABUI has a extension icon that lets you view your notifications. The color on the notification number changes based on whether you have submissions (blue), journals (green), new favorites and new watchers (yellow), comments (orange), and notes (red). This feature is very useful for seeing important correspondence for auctions or for seeing your important notes without even having to open FA in a tab. You can even clear out your notifications straight from the small menu that it opens in your browser!
If this feels like an ad, I apologize. ^^;
But this is something that has improved my experience on the site tenfold and I wanted to use my modestly sized following to give this extension a shoutout. If you have a Chromium based browser and use FA all the time, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by using FABUI.

Glad I could direct you to it! I used to dread uploading things here, but that extension was a life saver since I moved most of my posting over here.

Would this work for an issue with trying to upload from a 3 year old chromebook

I'm not sure, but I would definitely give it a shot!
