Anyone have house cats? Tell me your experiences
5 years ago
Hey guys!
So I'm in the middle of moving out of my current apartment into a cute little mobile home of my own in the countryside and I've realised I can finally have a pet ;A;. Ive always wanted to adopt a sweet little cat to keep me company while I spend most my time at home working on art. They would mostly be an indoor cat and will only be outside accompanied. I would love to hear some of your experiences of owning an indoor cat and any advice, tips, warnings etc you may have. ๐

Cats also like to mirror their owners: if you're on your computer they wanna lay on it sort of thing. That's actually a sign of affection!
I've also heard you should have one litter box per cat plus one. One cat equals two litter boxes, two cats is three, and so one.
Other than that, cats are super great pets! You can probably look up Jackson Galaxy from 'My Cat From Hell' (he's a cat specialist who helps people with pretty common cat issues) for some of his advice for cats!
Oh I'll definitely check him out! Thanks so much for the tips c':
*don't get wet food
*Dont bath them too often; sometimes their fur are sensitive and thinner
*Lotion on their paw pads once of week or month.
*comb that have lil rubber through the comb (best for rid the shed fur).
*Don't give them broccoli it's making them sick.
Look out of cat litter because sometimes it's hurting their paws. I had to replace cat litter because she poop in tub, soon I realized that her paws pad is super dry and skin off, since she used be stray kitty.
If you planning to get plant, be sure its not toxic to cats or get cat grass as snacks!
Leave lil space for sunlight~
I hope this is help bit! Good luck!
Thanks so much for sharing your advice ^u^
Alex - Ex street cat, who adopted my daughter when she was 2ish. So we kept him. He's a sweet thing for the most part. Dislikes most all cats outside of Dexter and our new kitten. We thought he had a flea allergy...always licking himself bald and raw. New kitten who was meant as a foster grew on us..and him. Suddenly he's playing again and no longer licking himself stupid. He's a glutton who inhales his food, and then throws it up a few minutes later due to speed eating. Then tries to steal other foods. Hates the kennel for trips to anywhere and will poo in the kennel then back his rump up to the door to pee everywhere, so now he goes to the vet with a harness and leash and no more issues!
Dexter - Was a sisters, she isn't a good pet parent and decided to dump him and say do something with him I can't do it anymore...he moved in with me and Alex. He's quiet for the most part, a big lover of laying on you and cuddling. Headbutts the mouth for kisses when he lays on you. Like Alex he's basically a yard lion...(They are sixteen pound Large cats. Not Fat no. Large big kitties.) Late night when he wants love or thinks he's alone he wanders the house meowing nice and loud for you.
D.C - Darling cat...the oldest of the cats, the least well behaved in one way. Was the cat of a deceased family member. Mistreated by everyone but my Aunt who was his owner. Has IBS, and never had his litter box properly cleaned...so he learned to go on the rug/fabric. We have puppy pads he uses...sometimes. Its been four years of bad habbit not breaking. We love him anyway. Cuddly, demandy...likes to be held when i'm in the shower, and to lay on my chest if i'm taking a bath.
Java - The foster turned staying for ever kitty. Started out quiet, cuddly. Is now Ms. Zoomy ass meerkat. Mreowls and trills all the time, thinks when i'm in the bathroom is cuddle/pet/play time. Currently attacks the shower curtain, and tries to play with the water in the sink. Loves to pounce the shit out of the foster kitten who freaks out about it, as well as to pounce the dogs, and the other cats. Be it they hiss or not. I've taught her "bad things", like sitting/laying on my shoulder. Climbing me for being on the shoulder, clinging to my pants in the morning demanding food. Demanding loudly to follow me into my room for sleeping time on the days I work night shift. Also am collar/harness/leash training her.
And then there's the foster kitty, and my old cats from years ago...Every cat is different and amazing!
Cats are social creatures, not loners. Either be sure you will be around most of the time, or get 2 to keep each other company, preferably from the same litter.
I'm almost 100% sure I will be at home most of the time so that shouldnt be a problem ^^
But for younger cats, make sure they have PLENTY of stimuli! Scratching posts, a cat tree to climb, tunnels amd TOYS!
Now after he passed and i got my new baby (3yr old) siamese. He had this habit that he would ONLY drink out of a cup in the bath tub! XD
He is 9 now so as an old man he just does whatever he wants and when we piss him off he does get revenge which normally involves throwing up in the middle of the dining room floor. -_-
But what can i do? Hes my old sweet spoiled rotten asshole baby! I love him as much as my hubby amd daughter!
