something to consider

A long time ago, back around 2000 before a good number of things came to light ...
I was talking with an associate of mine about the NBA. And I had brought up some resentment about the fact that it seemed like they were playing favorites to specific teams via bad calls.
Which, ya know, given that a whole lot of light on refs betting on their own games = totally was true.
anyhoo
I gave a bunch of evidence to the guy I'm talking to. (which I'm not going into here since it's all related to sportsball, and it's not the important part of the story) The punchline is that the guy, who was as big of a sports fan as me, said in a very despondent voice:
"I honestly don't want to consider the notion that the NBA Championships are rigged or even not 100% fair. If that's the case then the whole sport is pointless."
Thing is...
A lot of people just don't want to consider the possibility of corruption. Some people don't want to have to adjust their world view. Sometimes it's easier to pretend a problem doesn't exist if it means you don't have to change.
Some people just want to pretend that the world isn't burning.

like I said - it's easier for some people to pretend that the world isn't on fire
And yeah, sadly, its far too relevant.
... without fail they'll just run away and cry in a corner
