I know his voice sounds younger in the Japanese version of the games, but I wasn't sure about his age.

I honestly never considered much the age of the characters that I ggot to control in video games. Just like with animated characters in general, the age can be somewhat variable fitting the audience. You get an idea of their wisdom/experience in the world and how they are treated by others and that's basically it.
In regards to animated characters I usually think: either the creator has a specific idea for the character or they leave that open because it's not important in the end. A game character doesn't age just like any other Toon after all. (unless it specifically gets showcased via a time skip inside a cutscene obviously; though one could also treat that as separate characters) X3

I overheard he was an adult, just a short dragon. Why he didn't get caught by the magic of Gnasty Gnorc.

I always had the impression that Spyro was a pretty young dragon.

To me I thought he was young but clearly not too young. I thought middle like a teen since no other dragon (until Cynder) was his shape. The children were small and the adults were big anthro. I just assumed he was not either and thus teen

I always figured he was an adult by human standards. Like he could well be into his 50s, but since dragons can live to be centuries old, he's still the "big kid" of the bunch.

The dragons don't seem to have any qualms about identifying him as the chosen one, so he's most definitely not "just a kid". He is, at the very least, old enough to be treated like an adult.

It's kinda hard to think of him as a kid, tbh. I don't get that immediate "this is a child" vibe that I get from, say, Bart Simpson or the cast of the Arthur TV show.

Yeah I always thought he was an adult. I didn't play Spyro back when it first came out as I didn't have a PS1, and only got around to it now that the reignited trilogy exists. I won't lie, I can't really see him as anything OTHER than an adult. It's like if I found out Crash Bandicoot was supposed to be a kid; I'd just be like, "sorry I don't see it."

The folks going around claiming he's a kid are pretty stupid honestly.

He’s a kid in the first three games (and probably Skylanders), older in the Legend of Spyro games. But he’s also a dragon, so while you may feel shy about doing anything naughty with the character you have to remember that you’re also doing that with a non-human... which might be harmless or might count as beastality and devil worship depending on how warped that point of view is.

Still wrestling with this problem in general, not going to lie. I probably couldn’t draw Spyro as a fat character right now, but I don’t fault anyone else for doing it. I mean I did that to Ruby and Max before I learned to feel shame about it...
