I finally watched Chipwrecked and it was a very fun movie! I hadn’t seen it because it got such horrible reviews, but I’ve enjoyed other low-rated films too(Kung Pow), so I really can’t trust reviews to match my tastes.
The first two Chipmunks movies were origin stories(2 in a row?), and origin stories aren’t always necessary. The first 2 movies were good, sure, but this is the one where all that is out of the way and they can focus on the characters. I really don’t care how they came to know Dave. I just want to see the Chipmunks being the Chipmunks. Throw a situation at a character and see how they react. None of the reviewers would say this, but Chipwrecked made them stronger characters.
And yes, the references were absolutely dated and I could see the Castaway reference a mile away.
Simon: In fact, we were a mile and a HALF away. Although most people saw it when we were ten nautical miles from it, so don’t be so proud.
