Man, maybe I should start practicing so we can play

It's a quick game to pick up - simple controls, easy to understand mechanics, but mastering it does take some time. But it's so much fun - especially when you have a good group of people to play with.

I just started playing left for dead, might have to come bother you on TF2 as well! :P

Added jou. I play on TFP a lot, generally a good group of people. I've never rage quit from their servers (I've quit because of maps I don't like or general wearyness, but never because of the players).

Fortunately the mods are pretty on-the-ball and tend to problems quickly, and they've been kind of stepping up enforcement due to some of the asshatery that's been going around.

And while I have ragequit a few times, it's because I'm a really poor loser.

every time i have played on TFP, its full of mic spammers, horrible horrible maps (such as CTF_Dirtwork, which is not even a TF2 map, its a map almost directly ported from a different CTF game, not to mention how freaking buggy it is in tf2) and of course admins turning on all talk which destroys and sense of teamwork in the game and just turns it into a mic spam fest.

TFP was primarily started by a group of friends so that they could all play together, and personally, I love having all-talk on. It does interfere with planning strategies, but I love being able to cuss out the sniper who headshot me, or talk smack to my enemy.

As for the maps, they're voted on by the community as far as I know, so I can't really say anything about them.

If TFP just isn't your server, you could try CC2's (although I've heard mixed reports about it). It's not worth trying to play on a server you don't like.

cc2's got shutdown due to an intense ddossing attack that led to their ISP cutting their special contract (lot cheaper since cc2 worked with the isp head guy in the past) and then combined with they were already planning on moving on with their life, they just decided to shut it down and move on.

and the community must be HIGH if they voted on ctf_dirtwork. seriously, go find a server right now and play it and tell me its good >.>

I played it last time I was on. I don't like it, but any map is fun if you have the right people - even if all you're doing is finding new ways to break it.

The problem with dirtwork specifically is the fact that snipers can snipe from a spot pretty much in spawn, without anyone being able to get at them. It's considered by the admins to be a map breaking mechanic, and I don't know why it's not off the servers yet.

TFP has--IIRC--seven servers. One is stock maps only (#4), three are stock plus some community maps (#1, #2, #7), one (#3) is mostly no-stock, and one is stuff that isn't on the other servers (maps some people like, but generally aren't well liked or are crazy weird maps). #5 is like #1 and #2, but is TFP members only. #6 is like #1 and #2, but is in the UK.

Er, #3 is the wackey/weird. I was going through and putting in the server numbers and managed to not reconcile the server list with my mental map completely.

As an aside, we're aware of the problems with dirtwork and are working to get it off of the servers.

Alltalk is on by default until the player number reaches a certain threshold and then it is turned off. If there is an admin on and alltalk is on, ask the admin to run a vote to turn off alltalk. If the vote fails....well start muting the worst offenders. You CAN Clientside mute.

the PROBLEM with dirtwork is it that was meant for a completely different game, with completely different mechanics. A game without sentries, and where you can have ladders. Thats why there is the stupid buggy elevator in the middle and the drop downs in each base, which is supposed to be meant for passing the flag up (which you can't do in tf2)

And clientside mute still does nothing about teamwork. If two people want to coordinate on the same team, and all talk is on, then you are SOL, the game is less fun.

TFP is a server originally meant for friends. We do not take TF2 so seriously (for the most part) on the server, and prefer to err more on having fun with friends than playing seriously. To quote my fellow admin:

"Now: There are many people who visit our servers, and much of the time, those who aren't used to how we do things are unaware of the social norms that our players gain. One of these norms is thus: The majority rules in the absence of a Staffer's ruling. It's a common-sense thing that comes with experience, and we do not fault those who are unaware of it for lack of said experience on the first small infraction. We aren't a community focused solely on hard and intense play; The overall design is for fun for everyone...The majority rules.

Go with the flow. If the flow is not to your liking and the fish don't like your suggestion to swim a different way, jump to another stream."

In other words, we don't play seriously on TFP 9 times out of 10. I never say people HAVE to play on TFP or else not play at all, I prefer they have fun. And if you're not having fun on our servers, then feel free to find somewhere else to play. But the atmosphere of the server is not changing-they started out non-serious and they will remain non-serious.

Besides which, there is always team textspeak for specific coordinations. Somehow I've had success coordinating onslaughts with alltalk on, besides.
