Second Life

Several friends have been teasing me with all the awesome models and items in Second Life.
I resisted all the yiff and sexuality and all that jazz.
I held out when they showed me the Anubis and awesome avian models.
I almost broke when I heard about the nonanthro Dragons.
But what really did it, was the 'raptors. Beautiful, sinuous, lithe, 'raptors...
Ok Furries...I'll bite... I'll join Second Life.
Part of the reason I resisted so long is because I know what will more likely happen - I'll join, wander around for a while, chat with folks, see some sights, laugh at pose-ball situations and ogle the wonderful things that have been created there, but sooner or later I'll get diverted by something and before I know it, I haven't been in for weeks.
But I'll adventure it. If nothing else, it'll be an adventure. An adventure with lovely, lithe, beautiful 'raptors... :-P
For those of you familiar with Second Life - is there anything I should know? Seriously, I feel like I'm traveling to another country. What should I definitely see? What should I avoid? Should I find myself a guide? And most importantly - how can I get myself one of those lovely 'raptors? :-P

There's a lot to see so it's more of a matter of your tastes. If you like raptors there's a dinosaur park for that sort of play in world. Lots of dragon lands too. It's more about what you want to do and want to see.
As for avoidence, Avoid open sandboxes if you can as it's generly a place for asshattery if not well moniitored. Again, the world is so big that it's hard to say where to avid as many people can go just about anywhere.
I have a decent computer, but it still runs SL at a choppy rate, even with everything at zero.
Nargus avatars are the best on the market (though he only competes with Grendel's children, really).
Like you said, I simply got bored with jumping from one sim to another, getting bored from having nothing to do but just look at people doing what they did, and almost nobody to chat with. :P Maybe I'll log in one day to see if anything has changed or something.

you will need a guide if you don't want to spend several weeks working things out for yourself :P
I'm jealous...
Where's my harem of scalies?

Come to think about it, I've never seen you online on MSN either. Hope to break the silence some time. =)
And once I get the game installed and running, I'll put up another journal. I'd love to have a guide around the world. Better yet a 'raptor guide.

If you hang out around Dino Park often enough you'll run into more than a few raptors. Nargus even shows up once in a while and hangs out (rather than work on something).
