I WANNA HEAR WHAT YOU THINK.

So, imagine this scenario:
Let's say, one day, some dude discovers an anthropomorphic animal in the woods near his home, and this leads to more discoveries and eventually, the human race discovers that there are anthros out there and stuff, and they start revealing themselves yada yada yada
Okay, so. Say the government wants to try and integrate the anthros into society, since under the constitution they're technically covered, being sentient beings of equal intelligence to humans etc.
Would you be FOR or AGAINST the integration of anthros into our society? Considering the effects this would have on everyday life, etc.
My douchy side says I'd be protesting for the lulz, etc. But the moralfag in me would prolly be for it, I guess.

I wasn't aware.
So, I guess it was the government's decision to end slavery, amirite?
I MEAN, NO ONE PROTESTED -THAT-
Don't get me wrong, it sounds great and all, having real, live furries running amock in the world, but I'd also have to say that I don't think human beings are ready for something like that. We like to think that we're civil, but give us something to cause controversy over, and we're all kinds of up-in-arms.
Counter-picture with me for a moment, if you will, this world a few months in. Do you honestly think that people could be expected to treat these anthropomorphic creatures with equality? Religious nuts would almost certainly be in an uproar about other sentient beings to challenge their theories that "god created man to in his own image and to hold dominion over the rest of the world and yaddayaddayadda..." All the people that hate furries now would be able to easily identify and attack what they perceive as abominations. The reputation that they've already gained from the false, dreaming internet types will have almost definitely stuck and haunted them. Their "integration" would almost definitely lead to ghettoized isolation, maybe even genocide either over time or rapidly by attacks from some of the above mentioned groups (Plus things like PETA, who, though already very crazy, would probably only grow crazier in such a circumstance.)...
There are historical examples to back up this theory, but I've written enough for now.
For their own good, opposed.
Agreed, and thanks again.
"considering the effects on society, etc."
I don't think anyone besides you and Reed paid attention to that anyway. ;D
I was SO gonna bring up District 9 earlier, thanks for nipping that in the bud and for comin' up with an actual answer.
