Am I Becoming That Old Man?

To check off a list, in no particular order...
1. Having a potential health issue that requires me to get various tests just to find out the cause.
2. Haven't picked up my Nintendo Switch controller in months. Am I falling out of the spirit of video games?
3. I'm 42 years old.
4. My job is kinda in flux right now, but still secure enough to not feel anxious.
5. Forced to take a short medical leave of absence to have time to tackle said health issue, identify the cause and hopefully be able to treat it enough to return to work. Spoiler alert: It isn't Covid.
6. My writing mojo is still hard to recapture.
Maybe it's the state of things that's making it hard to be able to enjoy the things I used to. I wish I knew. I think, perhaps, it's because I have no one to share my video game fun with, that I've been unable or unwilling to pick up my controller to play it again. I don't know...

I'm 3 yrs ahead of you. I have the same thing going on. there are movies I'd love to watch and so many other things, but something prevents me from even picking them up. Model kits never bui;t ps2 gaames unfinished.i have no idea if it has a medical term but it sucks! I'll tell you there will be creative brownouts, stuff'll work then quit. just don't get too jaded or grumpy and you should be ok:) hang in there

Well I think part of the problem, at least on the video game front, is I have no one to play them with. It was fun for a while by myself. But after beating my games for the umpteenth time, it just seems to lose its charm, meaning the only way to get it back is to have a friend to play them with. So with that said, get over here! lol j/k

wish I could. MN is an icebox, it gets pretty maddening and the term "cabin fever" was inveted here I'm sure. I'm really out of date for online play, as is my computer. 10+ years. A replacement is in the works, God willing. maybe I'll bring the old atari out for now:)

I didn't have an Atari, but I did have an Intellivison once upon a time. Talk about nostalgic. XD

I'm almost 40 but still play video games, watch anime and read comics. I do feel like I have health issues though. Having people to game with definitely helps, I had to be part of a group/clan for Shinobi Striker on PS4.

Well I didn't mean it in terms of literally being too old for video games. What I meant was unless I have someone to play them with, it just isn't as fun anymore playing them alone; and thus I seldom play them these days. Not only that, but a lot of games these days have become too complex for my tastes. I'm not so old as to say two buttons and a directional pad were enough, but to try and get used to, like, a dozen buttons on a controller has become too much hassle for me. That's why I stick to my Switch...and even THAT can get complicated sometimes.

Actually, I know how you feel. I'm 29 but sometimes I feel like I'm 58 on the inside.

Oh, yeah? Well, I was born and living in a time where you had to get internet via dial-up, people still used beepers, and phones were cellular with actual buttons instead of the smartphones we have today.
