I'm trying but this is hard
A couple months ago I tried to get into a habit of practicing digital art every day and I started with the most basic of basic things like drawing lines and basic shapes like squares and circles. I did this with the goal of getting better at drawing digitally, but after a couple weeks I found myself not doing it anymore because I lost motivation. Today I tried messing around with it again and I find that every time I try to get into this and get started as a beginner, I just end up incredibly frustrated and demotivated. I don't know what the hell I should be doing to start learning. I don't know if I should be continuing what I was doing before or if I should try to start learning basic human anatomy or what. I know it takes years to become a competent artist, but I can't help but compare myself to some of the artists I follow. I want to know what these artists did during those first few days, then weeks, then months when they first started drawing digitally. I don't want to give up on being a digital artist, but each time I try to start I have no idea what to do...

I've come up and down, forgot things, remembered things, developed things. Ultimately, it is a long road but one that's rewarding if you actually walk it. What was useful for me when I learned digital art was that I knew basic pencil art first and some general anatomy tricks. I would trace over older, familiar drawings until I got the hang of how these drawings flow. It takes much tighter control because of the lack of any friction. Whereas with pencils or traditional in general, you've probably been working on that surface forever, digital is quite a bit different with far more to learn about.
There's not much more I can say other than keep at it and I'm here to answer questions if you have any.
And then when you do sit down to draw, draw whatever you like.

Also I participate in various art challenges and trades which get my fingers to work.
