LOL, nice analogy, but they still serve an important purpose because it generally means that while speaking you are trying to be more thoughtful, in text they should be removed.

Some people type in their own speaking mannerisms. It's mainly because of their connection to their thinking style... But you also get people who heavily put their persona into role playing online and it translates into their typing mannerisms as if it were the character speaking. It becomes a habit over time. :D

(I may have studied this stuff before, don't mind me, just observations)

I think if you are typing out dialogue for a book or something, it could be included, but in terms of other parts of typing, it should be left out.
