Listen up, savior!
So, I'm unsure how to feel about this. For my earliest works, I used onomatopoeia (FRRRTTTT), but I tried to grow out of it for my more serious works, because I know some people are... rather picky about that kinda thing.
On the other hand, personally, I don't mind stories that use them. So, out of curiosity (that's the name of the journal!), can you guys give me your thoughts on the matter?

On the other hand, I've honestly been moving away from using it myself. It wasn't intentional: I just started replacing it with more descriptive vocabulary that onomatopoeia would make redundant. You can do both, I suppose, but I sort of stopped doing it over time.
It's also difficult to remove the use of onomatopoeias from their comic book influences and origins. If you don't want your story to sound downright cartoony -- which is already hard to avoid if you're doing a bathroom fetish kind of tale -- avoiding it can make a lot of sense. If you want a lighter, more comedic tone, it can add to it; but a more serious tone is naturally going to be subtracted by the use of onomatopoeias.
It's really a situational thing, and up to you want you want to do. But I wouldn't call it an effective shortcut: it's just another tool in your toolbox, that you can use and experiment and nail down when it's relevant as you see fit.
This is a wonderful overview and guide of fart onomatopoeias, if you were looking for one or could use one for some reason.
Onoma: Frrrrrrt!
Description: A warm gush of bassy breath swims free from the butt before you.
Both: The dragons rear wobbles too and fro, hips sending those mounds of fat and flank rolling from side to side. The rude sputtering eructions from under the tail were no less affected by the motion, becoming stuttered and short...but no less musty.
Ffffrrrrrrr-rrrb-rrb-rrrrrrrrbBT!
my heads works so that always when im reading a story, im always imagine the whole story happen in my head like a movie. this helps me to understand the story better and helps me to devite if i like the story or not. Onomatopoeia is a great way for me to bettter underdtand a story.
If you don't care how people visualise or imagine the farts, then you don't need that specific of adjectives or sounds.
