Why Are (Good) Commission Artists So Inaccessible?! Rant
4 years ago
These days, I find it more and more difficult to find an artist with respectable drawing skills (that caters to my kinks) actually available for commissions. Whenever they do open up commissions, it's literally only for a few minutes...out of twenty-four hours! It seems like you have to be in the right place at the right time with all the stars perfectly aligned in order to successfully get a message out to secure a spot. Whatever happened to keeping commissions open for an agreeable period of time that is at LEAST 24 hours?
Look, I get it. Drawing is time consuming and tedious. You want to keep a steady schedule with the ability to be able to take some time off between sets to recuperate. But try seeing it from a consumer's perspective, a consumer who wishes to high heaven that he were an artist himself so he wouldn't be so dependent on others for arts. I made suggestions on ways artists can become more accessible to those who aren't readily able to be online much, such as a waiting list. But some had said that's asking too much from the artist to be able to keep track of such things. But I still stand by that idea.
My point is I'm frustrated that, as it stands, I only have ONE contact who usually makes time for me even though he too tends to have a pretty busy schedule. And even on those times he's not available that day or even the next, I at least know that I won't have to wait for too long before I can get something from him. Now mind you, I'm certainly not asking to be the center of anyone's universe as far as getting art goes, but I feel it isn't fair that slots tend to fill up in the span of a few mere minutes.
I'd like to be able to get art from other artists sometimes also. I ask, they say they're not available; or their profiles keep stating that commissions are closed. I can understand this sort of thing as it pertains to free requests, but paid art commissions shouldn't be a chore to track someone down that's more readily available.

My point is, only one artist these days has ever made the time for me, and I'm just yearning to get something by someone else for a change. The person who did that character you mentioned is indeed too expensive for me. And that's what also contributes to my despair on the matter. Those that are more likely to be available charge prohibitively expensive prices.
I think I'd be aiming to do some same day cell shade commissions for about 50 a piece I guess? I think I'd want a few days a week where I belt out 2 of those in one day to be sure I stay at least a little in the black lol.
ever consider donating plasma? I make an extra 150$ tax free some weeks by doing it. TBH I'd probably be pretty goddamn miserable right now if I didn't have that option myself :P
True.
It's like: "Manage to catch these special few seconds to get a slot. Missed it? Try again few years later..."
I am so tired of this bullshit...
