I think it's a thing of modern culture. Just as a top hat makes people think about a chimneysweep or an undertaker

i don't think that's the case. when it is well-integrated within a context that does not read as "wedding", then the association can be broken.

Oh yeah, some cool sunglasses would probably work great for breaking that context. xP

I think only of veils with wedding dresses, and not hoods.

I would have thought so too, but my recent paintings seem to have made a lot of people think of wedding dresses. Though, sometimes a more pagan style. Maybe it's the entire aesthetic of the picture that invokes that kind of association? It's interesting to think about how that kind of recognition works. (:

For what it's worth, I think hoods on a wedding gown are way better than a veil.

I agree. Something tailored looks a lot neater than a bunch of loose pieces of fabric pinned to the hair. d:
