The Writer's Meme
Currently closed for story commissions! See this journal for details if you want to look anyway.
Finally, a meme specifically for writers. Kick-ass.

~ How often do you get writer's block?
I get it every now and then, usually for a couple weeks at a time. It's not really the kind of thing that runs on a schedule, you know?
~ How do you fix it?
Eh, nothing really *fixes* it. I find the best thing to do is stop trying to write so I don't drive myself crazy.
~ Do you type or write by hand?
Typing, absolutely and always. My handwriting is garbage, and while I'm not the fastest typist in the world, I'm quite comfortable with a keyboard.
~ Do you save everything you write?
Yeah, pretty much. I've probably got stories that go back for years on my old computer in the basement.
~ Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
At least once, actually. The original idea behind While You Were Sleeping was one of the first concepts I came up with for stories about Dave and Kelly once I had finished the first three stories. The first section, talking about how Kelly was all alone in the house with her brother, I wrote probably in late '08, and remained pretty much unaltered in the final version I released at the ass end of this August.
~ Do you have a constructive critic?
Well, I don't really have any critics who just baselessly bash everything I create, if that's what you mean. Most of the people who comment on my stuff are constructive, or at least friendly.
~ Did you ever write a novel?
I tried to, once, but had a minor breakdown part of the way through. I'd like to go back to it someday, though.
~ What genre would you love to write but haven't?
You know, I can't really think of any genres that appeal to me that I haven't written something in yet, even if it wasn't posted to this site.
~ What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
I'd have to go with mystery. I have the basic plot of my stories worked out in my head ahead of time, along with the dialogue for specific sequences, but a lot of the actual writing, the descriptions, the inconsequential dialogue, etc., is made up and altered as I go. With a mystery story, you have to know everything about the entire story, forwards and backwards, before you even start writing, so you can drop hints here and there so a smart reader can figure out the solution before your characters do. It just sounds incredibly difficult to me. :P
~ How many writing projects are you working on right now?
Let me think. There's the story about the two ladies in the fantasy setting who have a good time together, the story where Vinnie ends up the plaything of someone else's character, a story I'm working on as we speak where Milo hangs out in a whole new way with his best friend, and a story about a pair of rabbits stuck in a hotel. So four. I suppose you could also include the long-delayed story about the PCA, but that's on hiatus until I figure out where I want to go with it.
~ Do you write for a living? Do you want to?
No, and oh God yes. I would love to write for a living, it's something that brings me joy, so if I could support myself on it, I might just be able to find this 'happiness' thing people are always talking about.
~ Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Unfortunately, no.
~ Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Well, I won the school writing contest ("Write Now!") two years in a row back in high school, but no 'real' awards.
~ What are your five favourite words?
This is an interesting one, let's see...
In no particular order:
Ejaculated - It's dirty, it's fun to say, and it conjures up a very vivid image of the act of orgasm. I use it a lot in my stories, you might have noticed.
Wretched - This one comes from a movie I saw long ago where a nearly-defeated villain spat this word out at his enemies like it was the foulest insult imaginable instead of a mild-at-best curse.
Spoon - Pretty much entirely based on how much fun it is to say.
Indeed - This is one of those words where you can say an awful lot in very few syllables. It gets a lot of use from Christopher Judge on Stargate SG-1, for example. Also because of an inside joke between a friend and I involving a boss from Chrono Trigger who had a strange-looking attack called 'Yes, Indeed!'.
Love - Yes, yes, I'm a huge sap, I know. Even the word makes me smile, it just sounds wonderful.
~ Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Oh sure. Specific scenes from the various Dave and Kelly or Eric and Milo stories are lifted pretty much verbatim from dreams I've had, and Never Say Quit was based almost entirely on a dream I had once.
~ Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliffhangers?
Happy endings. Hands down. What can I say, I get fairly emotionally invested in my characters, so I dislike being a dick to them. You'll notice that even the few stories where bad things happen (I've got another one in the works, incidentally) always end nicely for all involved.
~ Have you ever written based on an artwork you’ve seen?
Now that I think about it, I've done it twice, and both stories are here. Shave and a Haircut was written for a story contest that I wasn't really motivated to enter until I saw this picture of the girl the contest was centred around. Secondly, This picture by Narse, along with other factors I shall not mention (;>_>) inspired me to write a story involving a blue dragoness, and the result was A Blue's Embrace. My dragoness isn't exactly like Narse's, of course, that would be a Dick Move. They're just both blue humanoid dragon females. But it was definitely that pic that got the idea in my head in the first place.
So that's the meme, mercifully this one doesn't ask you to tag anyone, which is good since I'm not sure I know that many other writers, but if you want to give it a try, by all means, go ahead.
I hope that if this wasn't exactly a peek into the thought processes in my brain, it was at least entertaining for you.
MEME OVER.

FA+

That would be Slash (AKA Sir Slash), one of Ozzy's two lieutenants, the other being the androgynous/hermaphroditic (Depending on who you ask) Flea.
And yay consructive criticism! = I'll drink to that!
Absolutely.
And yes, SG-1 was an awesome show. Well, most of it, anyway.
stealitization is fun
anyways, good to know all this stuff ^^
No, and oh God yes.
Hmm... ever try to contact a publisher or anything like that then? ^^
There are publishing companies like Infinity Publishing which my friend has used to great success. Instead of the whole "We need to look at your writing, and then we'll see about it." in which most fraud companies steal your ideas, Infinity Publishing doesn't do that. They are commissioned publishing, meaning that you pay 200~400 bucks and they print your book, no matter how many orders.
My friend's book has sold many copies, and he gets $8 from each sale, with the book costing a total of $12 at stores. He's told me he sold over 2200 copies of his book, so I'd say commissioned publishing works. The only problem I could foresee is that finding a commission company for adult publishing would be difficult, and Infinity doesn't allow pornographic material. Now, as for erotic material, they've published some, but I know the incest wouldn't fly by them.
