Why The Lion Guard is so frustrating for me
4 years ago
These days I'm ill and prefer to stay in bed, that's why I decided to check out "The Lion Guard" that I delayed from 2015. I must mention here that I was a big fan of TLK in the past, constantly engaging myself in various role play games, trying to figure out the genealogy, drawing characters and so on and so forth. When I got to know about the new series coming up, I was a little surprised, still that didn't seem to me a good idea to revive a really old Disney cartoon. That's why I delayed watching The Lion Guard series for so many years.
So far I have watched only 23 episodes, but it was enough to frustrate me. I'm sorry in advance for lovers of The Lion Guard, I do not intend to hurt anyone's feelings here. This is just my subjective opinion.
1) The songs. I watch the series in Russian, and the vocals are so bad there. I mean, they ARE bad. The translators of the series didn't want to spend extra money to hire some professional singers for the songs, so they're performed by the same voice actors. To compare, in old TLK movies there were two voice actors for Simba, Nala, etc. And they got really nice vocals when singing.
2) The shading. To be presice, the LACK of it. I mean why didn't you even bother to shade the main heroes? I see a little of it, but it is really of low quality. Not to speak of backround - they just didn't care to shade zebras, antilopes, giraffes, etc. Everything is absolutely flat.
3) The stories. They aren't that bad, but they would work for children under 10. To compare with the old TLK movies, those were good enough for adults, teaching wise things. And these are just some silly stories that teach you nothing but make you constantly face-palm about the main heroes being so childish and naive (especially Bunga). Maybe I want too much from a kids' show, idk.
WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT THE LION GUARD:
1) A lot of characters. I really love it. Most of the second plan characters have their names and constantly reappear. So they are not just a nameless crocodile for you.
2) Animals can speak. WOW. We didn't have it in TLK 1&2. However, I don't really understand why some of them are given the ability to speak (zebras, crocodiles, bulls) and some are not (impalas, damans). I guess those who are meant to be eaten cannot speak.
3) The voices and the dubbing. It was a great surprise for me to hear Pumba and Timon voices again XD Those two can never be changed. Also I guess there are same voices for Simba, Nala, Kiara and Rafiki. I'm not sure about it. I didn't expect it because many years have passed and those old voice actors could probably drop their job or die or idk. It is amazing.
I'm sorry again if something that I wrote here is too negative, I just wanted to express my thoughts about it. Also the fever makes me really sick, my brain got overheated XD
