It still happens to me too to some extent, albeit not as much as in the past. I met some good artists in the fandom at some point, a few of them not from being artists but through friends; Most are nice people, but I found they generally prefer not to deal with the community due to not having the time or knowing to expect, given their popularity thus the number of weird encounters many of them have.
