I wonder if any of my watchers are Audiophiles. I would sure hope so!
Feel free to include the Dac's and Amps in the list if you want too!
Personally I'm kind of a cheapo
Desktop Setup: IFI ZenDac + Takstar HF850/Phillips SHP9500/Meze 99 neo - depending the music im listening too
On the go/Vibin on the bed: Fiio Btr5 bluetooth Dac/Amp (I swear loyalty to it) + Etymotic ER4XR/Linsoul TFZ No.3 - Still looking for a IEM that actually prides the rumbling bass I've been wanting without much tonal sacrifice. It seems impossible without spending a 1000 USD X'D
Ive gone through many pair, made me wonder some of my watchers are using!

FA+

For DACs/Amps, I bought an Audioengine D3 but ended up not using it.
When I do serious listening I fire up the big stereo.
I definitely have thought about the Audioengine D3 before! I wish I had the luxury of using a Big Stereo set, Alas the walls are quite thin over here!
Though the HD650's are real good too, usually my go-to when I want something lighter and more comfortable and relaxed.
Not very big on IEM's tbh. Most of the time I find myself using my speakers, admittedly; using a pair of KEF Q100 paired with a REL T-7 subwoofer.
I think thats fair, I love em because I get to take them on the go and I am often times on the go! If walls weren't so thin in our apt. Id totally get some crazy speakers and call it an investment!
In terms of a true upgrade you'll probably have to slap around 300 to 400 bucks on a new pair. Which honestly says a lot about how reliable the Sony MDR 7506's are, Its sound signature has stood the test of time for sure. Some even call it the "World's Favourite"
Almost everyone here is recommending the Sennheiser HD600/650's and I can generally agree with that as an option to an all around upgrade for studio quality headphones. I however might even recommend the SENNHEISER HD 58X JUBILEE if you were looking for a little more Bass.
Of course my very personal recommendation is on the Takstar HF850's Ive spent a lot of time bouncing around the 200 price range and the Takstar is a true bang for your buck. You get a lot of VERY serious amount of sound detail though they do need to be driven by an Amp at minimum. The Sennheisers above don't (As much) but they do perform better with more power, the Sony MDR's do too but not necessary at all with them!
Now for the Elephant for me, the Sony Mdr-cd900st's . These were my answer for what "felt" like an upgrade. In a lot of ways for a while. I do think they have more perks than the 7506's, rolling treble and clearer sound even with YT vids. but in the end I feel their really just a different experience with a very similar feeling to the 7506.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1vNSXojMn0 - This is the Zeos review of them and I can about standby his statements. If your a fan of the Sony MDR-7506's then you'll love these, but I can't in honesty say they truly better than the Takstars or the beloved Sennheiser HD6 series
IF you can find a pair, I personally also Vouch for the Audioquest Nighthawks, but they are kinda rare now and while not my favourite offer a very different experience to the same music I love.
Worse comes to worse you'd be surprised how much Pads change and upgrade the sound of a headphone. Brainwavz in particular are incredible for this. https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/prod.....n-earpads#prod ooh and the 7506 pads are on sale.
All in all I think if your happy with the MDR- 7506's then you shouldn't replace them, Pick those Brainwav pads and enjoy the comfort and boost in performance by pad alone. But if your looking for a full on upgrade or looking to breath new life into some headphones. the Sennheiser HD6 series or the Taks with an Amp are amazing options in my eyes. Hell just get an Amp in general if your mostly at a desk. SO good, SO useful. Makes any headphone better barring some weird ones. IFI Zendac, MX3 Topping, The Rebel amp any one of those is all you need till you get headphones in the 800 dollar range. Even a mini tube amp like the Little Dot Mk2 if you want a true retro look on your desk. If your looking for something similar but generally better the MDR cd900st's are great as well.. but definitely think about amps no matter what!
I hope that helps some! There are also many options I didn't talk about, The DT770's and the Meze 99 neo's for bass. Of course you could go ham and pick up Hifiman Sundaras or AKG 702's. But the ones above I can least personally standby as being very solid picks. Even if your like me and you always enjoy coming back to the MDR's every so often. Also Follow Zeos, the mans taste in headphones in impeccable.
Where did your Phillips break on you? Being self-adjusting, I thought they might hold up a little better for me.
i just bought some new headphones recently and im blown away by how amazing they are for the price point. I got the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. theyre the best headphones ive ever owned that were in that price range. really great sound i highly highly reccomend them.
i dont do a lot of mobile listening, so theyre the only modern earphones i hgave, the rest are vintage, cuz i usually am at home listening to stuff on my stereo, but they are excellent so i reccomend them/
The only thing I "don't like" about them is that they don't blot out other sounds well since they're open air. Sucks to have to listen to the rest of the room's TV/laptop over my own unless I want to blow my ears out.
Whatever engineering wizardry went into those old over-ear 'phones, I doubt they'll throw in the towel any time soon.
For more... around the house use I have a Sony MDR-SA3000 which I use in conjunction to a Fostex T50RP mk3.
Portable is either a Stax SR-001mk2 or a Sony MDR-EX800ST~
Oh and a FiiO X5iii DAP
And well being a colllector as well means I got well over 60 pairs of headphones~ Including gems like the original Stax SR-X mk1 and some unusual variants of the Beyer DT-48. My latest acquistion is a super rare Denon AH-D930, only three of which are known to exist.
Then I got ~100€ Sennheiser HD599 for playing games. These are actually openbacks, so they bleed audio a LOT. I'm alone here, so who gives a damn :D
Then for speakers I got Wavemaster Moody, a 2.1 subwoofer system ^^
Senheiser HD650 with a Schiit DAC and a Schiit amp.
Although not asked, also have Focal 600 floorstanding speakers, Hsu Bookshelfs and a Hsu VTF-15H sub.
