Oof. That sounds like that turned out to be a real mess. My mate and myself actually had something like that happen to us when we got drafted to be care takers for two elderly family members in California. We get there and on first day one of them immediately passes away from his advanced Alzheimer's disease and the next day we found out the house was in way worse shape that we were told, so we spend a month and a half on house repairs on top of looking after the surviving charge in our care. We get done and we get drafted again to do repairs to my mother in laws place in another part of California so they could move down look after the first person we were sent to look after. Including learning how to demo and rebuilt a fence that we were told need only a 'little work'. :p
