A political thought

Hello folks The climate here in main is getting alittle heated with the upcoming referendums and well there is only one question on the ballot that's really got my panties in a twist (and thats hard since I wear boxers). Here in maine The issue is question one. the referendum to repeal maines newly created gay marrige bill.
A yes vote removes the right to marry and a No vote keeps it.
I can already hear the confused folks muttering.
It's intersting in away because alot of the groops behind the prop 8 vote in cali are here now pouring money into my state
Hell Nom recently got into campainge finace trouble for all the out of state money it's heaping on the pile. It seems the yes people are realy pounding away too. with the anti gaay adds numbering atleast 3 to 1
but it's the tone that strikes me most looking at the ads.In the No campainge you get families talking about, how mainers are an indepentendant bunch who trust there niehbors and value everyones rights. It's an upbeat feeling and postitive tone
and in the yes ads you usualy have 1 person looking right at the camera glowering, a teacher or a lawyers saying this is bad the sky will fall and dinasour riding nazi'swill take over the state unless you do something. I think I may have made part of that up but I'm sure ou get my drift.
I just wonder when push comes to shove which side will win
It seems the same old Prop 8 chestnuts have been rolled out. The Gay will be taught in school!!! Gasp!!!
I wonder how that works since I wasn't taught the straight in school myself (sure there was the health class sex ed stuff but really I learned more sneaking my dad's penthouse.
one thing that anoy's me more then anything else is when people say it's a chioce. I certainly don't remember choosing to be gay, but lets put that aside so what if it's a chioce people make chioces every day that are protected by there government. in fact most of the people screaming about same sex marrige are sheltering behind a govenment protected chioce.
And by that I mean Religion. Religion is a choice, youn arn not genetically encoded to be catholic, or jewish, or muslim, or Buddhist. But this chioce has been enshrined in the US constitution, and is protected through out the nation. Hell this chioce is used repeatedly as a bludgen by people all over this nation to try and limit other peoples chioces, simpley because acourding to there world veiw they might choose wrong.
*shrugs*
So can some one tell me if my being gay was a chioce I made how come it's some how less deserving of protection then your choice to be catholic?
sorry folks if this confuses anyone it's 2 am here, so I could be ramblign and am probably not in my best form. Having read the next days letters to the editor (the newspapers post them on the web at 1 am) I felt the need to vent my spleen. but if anyone has an answer to this question I'd love to hear it

First off, I'm a straight and I think gays should be allowed to be married.
Second, I hope this bill lands flat on its face.
If those for the bill use religion as their reason for the ban, then the gov. should say "No can do". After all isn't the gov. suppose to be separate from religion.
Also if this bull, I mean bill, gets passed I wonder how hard it is to start a religion? After all I heard that the UK approved Jedi as an official religion. So maybe Gay could be recognized as a religion there and do a carry over here in the US (as it would be acknowledged by another country as a religion).
As for the "Choosing to to be gay", that's just another way of them saying "choosing not to hide your sexual preference".
2.) Sadly, no. Separation of Church and State is in the Constitution, and therefore applies in federal powers. Unless a state's constitution has a similar declaration, then there's not a real separation. So, by technicality, a state can make religious declarations, but the Federal government is forbidden it. Most states will accept the federal constitution, but as the states have their own rights, they can choose to ignore some aspects and still be legal.
I think a good way to start is that every state needs to have a similar clause in their founding documents
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_gays
and after looking at the link I just notice the "Us Obama Gays"
*shakes his head*
The sad part about where I live, is the fact that a large part of the population is anti Obama and anti gay. So when they hear about this I'm sure that line will be yelled out quite a bit, just with "Us" replaced with "Those". *Shakes his head again* ...closed minded idiots.
I wonder if this is how it felt for those Southern whites who were pro-black rights in the 50's & 60's.
It's to keep people from any one religion being enforced onto people. That's why it's okay for teachers or principals or anyone in education positions to wear crosses or any other symbol of their faith, but not okay for them to inserts scripture into their teachings unless the school itself is a religiously based school. If the school is government funded and public, that's where the rules fall in. It's why post offices can't have a religious christmas display with a manger and baby Jesus outside, because then it seems that the government's endorsing a particular religion. If that is
allowed, then EVERY viewpoint must be permitted.
As for the religious right, every time the christian religion is forced out in a situation where authoritity figures are giving enforcement of that religion, they throw a fit. They want special rights and treatments. And if we do go into the giving special rights area for christianity, then you go into a BIGGER problem. Which version? Do we support the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Protestants, the Roman Catholics, and so on and so forth. There's little details in all these groups that seperate them from the other groups.
I do have to agree that if they are using religion as the reason, why can't you use some other religious reason to repell it. There are some religious denominations that ALLOW gay marriage, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are religions that allow gay marriage as well.
