talk to your commissioners
A bit of a hot take but i need to get something off my chest.
I have bought a lot of commissions over the year. I like getting art and supporting artists. However something that gets under my skin is the process. You submit for a com and are immediately asked for payment. This is fine in and of itself but then when there is no communication from the artist, no available que list or a que list that get no updates, this is not okay. It then falls into that "when can i ask for updates" period and i hate those. Also the response " i have things going on in my life". Again shit happens and it is fine but when there is no communication for weeks, months, or over a year this is not good. Lately i have been working with a few people who actively give progress updates and it feels wonderful. I feel everyone should practice this. To me at least letting someone know how things are going once a month, even if no progress, should be standard or have an active que list for reference.
Just some thoughts.

Is nice that the handful of new folks lately give me all these weekly-ish updates about "you're still in queue and no questions come up yet, excited for your project!" and similar communication lines :)
