There are 4 effective ways to cheat:
1) "your way", just add rubber to the moving parts between her hard plating, and color code hard plating and rubber plating: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/39619060/
2) the "patlabor way" basically: draw wide gaps in the armor, cover all the joints in cloth and let the technically minded tell you how it works. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/p.....8-patlabor.gif
3) If you like to eat crabs and stuff, "play with your food" and check what is the mobility range and why. Bugs in general move like robots because they tend to move by litterally inflating or deflating rubes filled with a liquid... sooo #BasicallyPistons, but crabs too use "single axis muscles" to move their plating https://cdn.firstwefeast.com/assets.....-com-save4.gif
4) get yourself action figures and toys and study how they move, here is me explaining what is in "the dark void of the shoulder gap" in a character of mine, by... uh... using toys https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....86/unknown.png
And there are 2 ways to not cheat:
1) study how medieval armor covered everywhere but still allowed the user to move freely and design sliding plating like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzTwBQniLSc
2) pick any of the tons of random freely available books on robotics and clockwork and "watch the figures" believe it or not, often times that is more than enough: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....Of_Freedom.png
Finally there is the final "contextual red button of doom" of Megas XLR fame that you can always press when commissioned: β’ ask your commissioner for references, if they cannot provide they lose the right to complain. π€£ππ

I have been working with artists that "do not like mecha" for years... and mostly...
...i have noticed it is because well most commissioners are unprepared and cannot explain.
And this breeds rejection in artists who do not wish to deal with that kind of stuff.
It is understandable.
I tend to try multiple approaches, so that could also be overwhelming.
I apologize (however) for giving the feel of being pushy. I did not wish to stress you. Good luck.
