Ideas Out The Wazoo!
Wow, ANOTHER journal posting?! Just days after the last one?! Who am I even?? XD
So...ever since I decided to want to give furry art another try, and ordered those markers, a few ideas have popped up in my head. Ideas for bookmarks. And buttons, which I still have my button machine.
Maaaaaaaaybe pins? I'll have to think about that. I know I can make my own plastic pins. Enamel pins might be expensive - I dunno about those, since I've never really inquired about getting some made...I do know that they're currently all the rave at the moment, though. So....I dunno.
Of course, if I do happen to get completely back into this, I'd like to do conbadges again. Those were always my #1 sellers back in the day, and I'm currently mulling over how I can do them a little differently, so it's not just a static "here's your character, looking stiff, as they pose for the camera" kinda thing =P
But still though, I feel like the ol' wheels in my brain are full of dust and cobwebs from not being used for years are finally creaking back to life. This is a good thing :)
And, of course, I wanted to ask everyone out there, since I'm not familiar with what's "in" these days....What's "in" these days? XD Like, what sort of things that people would like to see/buy/commission, etc.?
I have no idea if I'll sell at cons again, and honestly, it's too soon to really tell at this point. I may feel the need and want to do this again, but it could also change in a heart beat, too, so I'm trying not to think too far ahead.
If I *do* happen to sell at cons again, I might just stick to Artist Alley. I've canceled my PA Tax License (It took FOREVER to do it, too, cuz they kept insisting I needed a new one every year, and couldn't seem to really understand that I wanted to cancel it). Which is another thing I would have to take into consideration too - I don't want a million state tax licenses if I'm just going to sell there once a year, or once and never sell there again...which is why I figured Artist Alley would be better for me, cuz we sell stuff through the convention's store instead, and then collect our money afterwards. But again, that's really thinking far ahead, and I'm trying not to do that too much.
For now, I just want to focus on what I want to do right now, as well as get up-to-date with what stuff is going on, what people like, what they don't like, etc etc. So, any ideas are more than welcome, if it helps to get the ol' wheels going ;)

When I went to furry cons, I usually stuck to New England ones, and/or Montreal and Ottawa - Montreal's only an hour and a half drive away from me, and Ottawa is my hometown, so I would visit my family while going to the con as well. But yeah, mostly New England, like FurFright in the past, Furpocalypse once, Anthro New England, Tiny Paws. Furrydelphia was pretty fun, but I've only been there once.
I suck less at art now!
Yeah, I'm just waiting for my markers to get in (which it looks to be next week now, which is annoying, cuz I want them now....) and I'm going to try making a few for practice and such :)
We are literally our own worse critic, and I'm still learning for myself, not to be too hard on myself because of it. It can be really hard >.> But everyone has that moment where they see their earlier stuff, and compares it to what they can do now...and it's only then that we realize it ourselves "OMG look how much better I go since then! If that's the case, then just think of where I'll be years from now...."
Well, my fursona is now a gryphon ;) As for what I was looking for for ideas and such, it was more along the lines of what I could make that I could sell at my table in the form of merchandise...Like magnets, bookmarks, prints, buttons, pins, stickers, etc. I'm so out of touch of what other artists have been selling at fur cons - what are popular, and what doesn't sell - so I'm always looking for things that I could also do for this ;)
I most likely won't be open for custom commissions for a while. I want to be certain I want to know what I want to do before I start committing to things like that ;)
You can always set up a sketch to show the motion or pose and let people bid on it to add their character/minor tweaks.
Maybe you can advertise here or on FA?

Still would love to get another gryphon plush or two when you are open!
I'm going to keep commission stuff off of the table for now, though, until I know I'm ready to start taking them again. Which might be a while, but that's Ok :)
Perhaps something like that would get you back into the groove!
