Huion Kamvas seems the most interesting to me in the interim

I went from a 13HD Cintiq to a Huron Kamvas Pro 24. Cost the same as the Cintiq did and is twice the size and resolution. Really nice for the most part, the pen is worse but everything else is better. Hotkeys are very nice and screen display is good, stand is a huge improvement. Drivers are also less annoying. For sure worth the money over the Cintiq equivalent.

By the pen being worse do you mean the feel in the hand or the jittery bits, pen pressure? I'd love a little bit of elaboration on that one! Yeah If I went with a Kamvas or the XP-pen Innovator id get a hell of a screen improvement over the 13HD.

For the pen, it doesn't have the eraser bit on the end but it does have a default hotkey for it so you get used to that. The biggest drawback is that when you tilt the pen the cursor will stay in the same place as if the pen is pointing straight up, so its slightly off. Honestly, this sounds bad and it did bother me a lot at first, but once you use the tablet for a bit you forget it's even there and it doesn't affect you at all. At least, that was my experience. It's less of a problem than you'd think.

I've had two different Huion's now and I can recommend it. The drivers are really stable.

Yes this is certainly my biggest fear as someone who doesn't veer off from Wacom. Do you know if the XP-Pen Drivers are stable? Huion is certainly seemingly like the safest bet from someone who is waiting for Wacom to drop their newest iteration of the 16 inch.

I can't say I have any real experience with XP-Pen but what I've heard through the grapevine is that it's pretty comparable. They all seem to source various parts from similar suppliers so I wouldn't be surprised if the drivers were identical with a new coat of paint over it.

The Huion drivers though use the windows-ink driver hook so they don't run into the whole service crash nonsense Wacom has. I've never had to restart my driver or computer and can always just start things up and work.

I had one issue where the tablet drivers didn't run on startup which caused the pen pressure to not work, but I fixed this with a switch in task manager. That was the only problem I had with Huion drivers in the 8 or so months I've had mine. I had to uninstall and reinstall the Wacom drivers like a million times and they broke constantly in comparison.

Interestingly for me Wacom drivers dont break to the point of needing to reinstall since 2011 but I will say that.. every so often I need to restart my comp because the drivers were like "not feelin this round chief".

Yeah, I've never had that happen with Huion drivers!

As much as I hate their customer support and some of their products, I still prefer wacom over other brands. Imo the 13HD has been the best so far, I like working on small tablets at that size along witht he 16HD are perfect to me.

Oh Blitz! Have you tried the Huion kamvas 16 pro thing or whatever? If it's not wacom Im always scared of Driver/Software issues BUT It just seemed like a nice step up color quality wise if the drivers function! But I definitely know how it is, Wacom tends to work the best, unfortunately I still want to consider waiting. Them pulling the 16 pro line off feels like their gonna release something new and fancy. But I guess I can't go tabletless.

It's so sad to see my 13HD die after so much time! It ALMOST couldn't have chosen a worse time! Thankfully it still at least functions, if barely! Yeah a 16 inch of something sounds PERFECT for my desk!

I haven't tried Huion myself, but have a close friend that uses it, and it came with weird green pixels in the screen, Huion refused to refund :/

For utility the mobile studio pro is best display computer combo with that can turn off touch while maintining pen funtions

IF absolutely non wacom then XP-Pen brand is worth looking into but you're gonna wanna replace the usb/firewire cables they come with

The XP-Pen has certainly been something to consider without a doubt.

I've been using an old Huion GT-220v2 for over 4 years and it hasn't given me any trouble. I'd say the brand has only gotten better since then.

Yes I've noticed surprisingly little issues from Huion tablets that didn't just seem like the standard "every so often you get a bad one" so return it and get a replacement. Which isn't too bad in this age of convenience we live in. Thanks for the input Subs!

If you're considering huion, Kamvas 22 PLUS model will fit your need for the very best vibrancy of colours outside of Wacom 2k tablets, at a quarter of the price too.

Reason for the plus model is because of the Full lamination, near zero pallarax and maximized colour range. Have your most orangely oranges and deepest blues at the same time.

Sent 5 of these out to various artists in countries where wacom will take a years salary to buy, and they're loving it.

While that is true that extra saturation and wider ranges of color is nice, things like 99% Adobe RGB or 140% Sgrb don't interest me too much, As while you definitely have a brighter and more saturated monitor.. Everyone else who views your work won't have same stuff. Most people are probably rocking 100% srgb if their just normal folk and maybe 120% if their gamers with a decent monitor. Some monitors are even fucking with colors even more than that in really odd ways for "HDR and Clarity". Either way I need upgrade from 13HD colors anyways, but the upgrade doesn't have to be crazy substantial haha.

I think a 22inch would be more fitting at 4K but I believe that FHD will probably be a bit too stretched for my liking personally. So I'll still probably peruse the 16/15.6 inches in the interim.

But ive always been interested in the "cheaper tablets" like Huion and XP! Since Wacom is taking its sweet ass time rereleasing a better version of the cintiq 16. I think I will definitely go with one of those "cheaper brands" just to try it out! I'm glad the option exists for people!

That's fair, tbh, Huion has been blazing into the mainstream because WACOM's tech patents ran out a few years back, especially on their no battery pen, so now you're gonna see that red thin line between the two disappear over time. That's why I made the jump, and at a quarter of the price of the Wacom equivalents. The huions have come a long way since 2013, the 'responsiveness' you sought from your WACOM is all there now in 2021.

That aside though, While I will probably order through Amazon prime due to a hassle free experience or something close. I am certainly looking at the 2021 16 pro. Which keeps sale price on amazon with an extra 40 bucks off. Still wanna dig into XP-Pen itself though, Wish I could hold both of their pens in my hands, but unfortunately that will not be the case. I hear better things about color Calibration right out of the box for huion, which is pretty big pointage.

Regardless its VERY cool to see these tablets go from "basically shit" to full wacom competitiors at a much cheaper price and while wont stop me from a future wacom product, for now its telling that Wacom is lacking so much innovation in its tech unless you go to the 4k USD marker.

As for your last point, Wacom still does innovate, but very, very slowly. They knew of the demand for a cheap screen tablet, and yet they only released the Wacom ONE last year.

Now if you wanna see what it was like being all other tablet brands vs Wacom back in like 2005 - 2018 and what their competition was, look at the Ugee brand of tablets designs and reviews, the least stable of modern tablets. And you'll never wonder again why Wacom gained so much market share for the drivers and pen just simply working, and just being stable asf, in an age where you didn't know if your cheapo not Wacom tablet's pen was gonna work tomorrow.

Brands like huion and xppen changed all that.

I swapped back to a blind tablet recently after 5 years on monitor ones and I've actually been quite pleased to be able to choose any screen I want and it improved my posture. (even having a monitor arm wasnt enough to save me shoulder and neck pain) I do have a little more trouble with accurate linearts, but since I'm mostly a painter, eh.

The feeling on the pro pen 2 is pretty good. my xp-pen 22e was definitely not as responsive and I mostly use a feather touch. the intuos pro surface really burns through these nibs though, even without pushing hard. I go through one every 10 days and bought a hoard of cheap knockoff ones ;V

Yeah I definitely THOUGHT about it. But right now my own monitor is not exactly astounding. Yeah if I do go with Huion or XP-Pen im not totally expecting "as responsive" as my cintiq.. but maybe a little I guess since my 13HD came out in 2013. Its trucked for a while this poor thing.

Still though, An New intuos is certainly something I considered and may consider in the future! Its always at the back of my mind I think!

Yeah if it wasn't such old tech, I couldn't justify 300 for something that has a lower gamut then most current gaming monitors! But I hope their sale goes well!

I have a mobile studio pro, and while I love the touch controls it lasted 2 years before the battery inflated so bad the screen popped out (I babied that thing). Wacom replaced it, but before that I had a companion 2 that lasted 2 years before the screen died and wacom said 700 dollars to fix it. I'm looking at getting a display that connects to my desktop because I don't use my tablet when traveling. I don't even take it. I'm looking at second hand drawing displays on Craigslist. If you live in a populated enough area you can try that, just test it corner to corner in person with the pen. Unfortunately it looks like wacom is the only brand with touch screen controls, but I'm looking at getting a non touch display plus this thing called a tourbox that is like a remote with customizable controls and enough dials to stimulate what I want. That plus a huion kamvas would be nice. My biggest concern at that point is parallax and the pen. If the parallax isn't zero or the pen lacks features you can't simulate like tilt or sensitivity then it's a non starter.

I think you had another journal that stated you ordered a new tablet already. However if you didn't, Amazon has Prime Day deals on several of the Huion KAMVAS models.

Alas I have, but I guess them's the breaks, Tablet is suppose to come today, So I guess if its broken then I could return it and take part in this deal, but I'd rather have the working thing vs saving 40 bucks so here's hoping!
