this is what chains and snowtires and 4WD are for

So it was really icy yesterday morning, and I had to drive up to the mountains... well it's about 7 am... so there's not many people on the road. Those on the road don't know how to drive in slick conditions AT ALL. In the span of like 2 miles there were 6 accidents.
Anyways, there were three lanes, I'm in the left hand lane, no one is in the middle and I'm trying to pass everyone in the right lane. Well this guy in a Dodge Ram decides he's going to lose control and come STRAIGHT into my lane. I had no time to react, there was only about 12 feet from my hood to his stopped truck. This all happened within like a second, too! I slammed on my brake, I couldn't think of anything else to do and I turned the wheel towards the median. There's this horrible SKHHHHH~ sound as I'm skidding towards him and I'm SOOO about to T-bone him... I can see him gripping the wheel and he's looking around, confused... An older man. The only thought I had was Brian standing over the wreckage/me being dead and "damn, I really liked this car." I'm in a VW Jetta, btw, so his truck would've kicked my ass.
I thought I hit him, but it was my car grabbing some road and me going into the median. I start turning sideways (facing the road), heading towards a mile marker. I missed the guardrail and one of those orange trash bags, too. I slowed down enough to put it into second gear right before the marker (it was right outside my window!) and I got back on the road. I looked back at the guy, he was pulling off to the side, his truck was fine. The whole time I was like this 8|
Brian called me like 2 seconds afterwards to ask me where I was (as he was driving up there, too) and I lost it. I became a babbling brook of OMG I ALMOST DIED!
On the way home, I looked at where it happened, and where I pulled off, there SHOULD have been a mile marker! It was gone!
I got so lucky. But I'm tired of driving and everytime I shut my eyes, I see the side of that guy's truck.

FA+

and yes, i find that the words "maverick" and "cowboy" to fit right into the general assumption of a bad/crazy driver on ice.
i listened.
i was loloing at
"just don't act like your username says,"
and
" understood the "lol!" perfectly."
sounds like your ticked/upset/snarky.
:P DRAMA OMFG.
shush you racist.
I am still like D:
Also, was this on hwy24? That's not a good highway to drive on to begin with.
I am glad you made it through alright.
No, because of the ice storm, my driveway was a sheet of ice. The paramedics just held on to the gurney and slid down to the ambulance. If I wasn't freaking cause I couldn't breathe, I would probably have been laughing.
The drive was very slow. ABout 30 mph because of the roads and we slipped many time. I don't know what I was more scared about. The roads or not being able to breathe.
But we got there safe and I saw a doctor after waiting for 6 hours. The ER was packed! It just turned out that the bronchitis took a turn for the worse. I'm still coughing, but no where near the way I was last week.
Your survival instincts are strong. While you thought of Brian standing over the wreckage, you still managed to avoid it. In a situation like that, my brain just thinks "I'd really like a cup of tea and some chocolate" or something similar, and instead of swerving or avoiding like you did, my heart resigns itself to impending death, and I become not only unable to react, but unable to take it in either. I don't realise someone's about to punch me until I'm on the floor with blood coming from the back and the front of my head. But you did well. If you have trouble sleeping tonight, just remember that, you're an instinctual survivor.
Eeee~
Observation of a positive quality, and a deliberate mention thereof. I think that counts as a compliment.
You're welcome. <3
