What about second hand shops like CeX or Gamestop? o.o

Their grading system is pretty strict (having worked there myself) from A, B and C
A being near mint / still boxed, B is used but still very good condition, C is scuffed / damaged but still works

Second hand PS5 wouldn't be an option for me. It makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason. Anyway, thanks for this suggestion. I'd consider it later.

Never buy from the scalpers

Buying from scalpers only means they'll scalp more. It lets them know that they can do that, and lets them know that it's okay. The only way they'll ever go away is if people start showing some damn restraint, and make them realize they've wasted thousands of dollars on things that have no resale value other than breaking even.

Never give in to scalpers.
Otherwise you will be rewarding people that do this, and they'll keep doing it.
Often these scalpers actually gamble when buying up stuff like this. So if no one ended up buying it, you'd bankrupt them.

There's a story like that out of Norway when the Corona crisis started. A guy bought up a lot of essentials, hand wash, toilet paper but then no one gave in to his scalping.
And even the store, which knew what he was trying to do, outright refused to refund the purchase even if it was within the return period. And it fucked the guy over good, rightfully so.
We all hate these people and the only way to actually get them is by not buying, because after all. We are their customers as well. And like any store. If you don't like the seller, you don't give them business.

As much as it is a shot in the dark. I’d say keep trying. I was sure we’d have to wait a year or two for one myself. We were never on the ball about drops, no bot usage or anything. But LO and behold one day a friend of my husband messages him for no reason whatsoever after not talking for months about a drop. We check it out and there is only 6 minutes before the drop. And somehow we managed to get one between the two of us refreshing. We were so baffled we didn’t believe we had it until it actually arrived.
