Just thoughts, my username

It's honestly tempting to change my username I'm known for. I kinda don't like I used Japanese for it, I made it when I was 17. Ive totally gotten into the strawberry thing though so I'd like to keep that.
Like, strawberrycat, strawberrykitten, strawberrykitty (all likely taken). Maybe strawberryChaton? French for kitten
But, it's so hard to change names and make new accounts when you've accumulated SO many watchers on one. I don't know if I could do it.
And not all sites let you change your name.

FA+

Just becuase you had a fascination with Japanese culture in your teens?
Is this one of those woke culture things?
Or do you genuinely not like the word?
I remember my sister doing something like that
One thought I had was maybe like... StrawberryNessa. It would be a name that still keeps the overall flow of your current one with the StrawberryN, but changes the ending of it. Don't rush into it though. Take your time. :)
I ended up switching from @/furchild to this account. And yeah I have about half the followers I did over there. (Probably more due to like, a year long hiatus from furry art before coming back to just say “hey follow this new account”) But anyone who was actively into my art did follow. Which I feel is more important/truthful in the long run. And now! I have a username I’m more comfy with.
The biggest thing I’d suggest if you’re going to switch accounts:
- make multiple journals, and an art submission announcing the movement to the new account. Set the art sub as your ‘featured’ work so when people come to your page, they know you’ve moved
- don’t lock the account. If you don’t want people lookin’ at it anymore you can remove and archive all your older art except the moving sub. This way if there’s any stragglers that come to your account they aren’t hit with ‘this user basically doesn’t exist anymore’ and knows where to find you
- update your front page/user info on here to scream “I’ve moved accounts!!” And link the new account a lot
- bonus you can change the icon on this account to say something like ‘moved’ but I think that’s just extra hassle personally
- on your new account, maybe somewhere on the front page say ‘moved from x’ so people extra know it’s you and this is the active account. not some random reposting under your brand. Again I don’t know how useful this is but I did it for a bit and I’ve seen other people who switched users do this too
I’ll also echo what everyone else is saying which is don’t rush into a new username if it’s just a sudden itch or you’re unsure/hesitant. The last thing you want is to make the switch, and end up disliking that name as well; having to do the whole process again.
Regardless of what ya choose! I’d def follow over. Your art is so cute (I’m just real bad at interacting behh)
Def not a sudden idea, it's been something I've been sitting on for a while.
Of course, if you're really not liking it, then yeah maybe do consider moving to a new account. I'd definitely recommend all the stuff sapphiix said in the comments here. But personally, I think your username is great! It's descriptive & relevant to who you are, and personally I think it sounds better than, say, "StrawberryCat" or "StrawberryKitty" or anything like that. :3
also unrelated adorable icon! ;w;
If you did change it, you might email the admins of the sites you are on and see if they could change it for you. It might be less work for them to do some work on their end than go through the process of opening a new account and closing the old one.
I actually find most people don't know what it means, and can't pronounce it. Same issue with chaton but I'm used to it.
To make it simple, when you create an account on a site, you're given an id by whatever software runs the site. It's something you usually never see and it's a string of numbers and/or letters. On many sites, changing names is easy, since your name is just a variable for the software : the display name for user #123abc is 'StrawberryNeko'. If you change your username, the site just updates the 'display name' field, but you're still user #123abc for the site, so everything is still associated to your account, whatever your displayed name is.
Unfortunately, I was told that the software used to run FA does not do this. Instead of making you user #123abc, it uses your name as your site id, so in FA you are user#StrawberryNeko. Thus why changing name is impossible at the moment and people who want to do it have to create a new account.
And I've been told that rewriting the code to make it possible for people to change names while keeping their account and everything in it would be very difficult, if not outright impossible due to technical limitations that goes beyond my comprehension. Friends of mine who know much more about coding and website told me that the easiest way would be to start anew, basically, that trying to modify the code runs a high risk of corrupting it and loosing many things, if not everything.
