What to do with foxxfire.com?
It is with sadness that I announce that the gallery pages of my website are now completely defunct. The scripts were dated and unsupported for many years, preventing me from updating them at all, keeping them up mostly as a legacy site. But recently it's been open to attacks and unable to keep up, so the browsing function of the gallery pages have been taken down.
Since that was really the main purpose of the site, I need to repurpose it. Like, should it just be a redirect to my FA, IB, Rabbit Valley, and other sites? Some write ups of my OP characters? What would that page do that this page don't'ent?
Also, I don't want to keep burdening
tursi with the cost and upkeep of the domain now that he no longer has a backend to maintain, but my literacy to handle that sort of thing is grade school level at best :3 I know '00's FTP and HTML, but past that foxx brain go brrrrrr.
So, yeah. I want to keep foxxfire.com for obvious reasons, but I'm sorta aimless right now as to purpose and place for it. Open for brainstorming :)

FA+

Sad to see it go. It was one of the first places I saw on the fandom, along Reptile-Universum, Yiffstar, and VCL. Loved your early art, and it played a significant part on the stuff I like today!
There’s a lot of stuff there that’s not here.
I'll admit I can't remember the last time I actually went to foxxfire.com other than to show other greymuzzles it's still around, but still gonna be a bit sad to not be able to do so any more. You're making the right call, of course! Just waxing nostalgic over here. :)
As to ideas, the redirect thing seems great. Could probably also do writeups there. Just keep the whole thing simple, do it in Google Pages or something like that. Be my move, anyhow.
I do hope you can find some way to keep the domain and maybe even make great use of it.
Alternately, I'd probably just redirect it to the site you use the most like your FA or if you have a Patreon.
There are also sites like Linktree where you can list a bunch of links to where to find you. You could redirect your domain to that.
As for an actual site? I'd say having at least some sort of landing page, with links to other places where you're at wouldn't be a bad idea. Might also be good to keep an email address set up there, even if it's not doing much more than just forwarding over to your main email.
As for hosting, it's usually $15-20/year for the domain, and somewhere between $5-20/month based on what kind of hosting you get, if you also get hosting.
I'm thinking a Cox the Fox sheath themed fuzzy beer can holder. Or in his case, maybe the longneck. According to some art, a Nebuchadnezzar of champagne!
But totally understandable why though and some times you just gotta look after what works best for ya. ^.=.^
FoxxFire.com was my very-first regular furry exploration site, almost twenty years ago now I guess.
Here's hoping Our Host can maximize this opportunity.
but yeah, hold onto that site, or else people may buy it for cheap and squat on it holding it hostage until someone pays for their ludicrous high prices
But yeah, the internet has changed plenty since '94. You might have to just attach the domain to something like a WordPress or SquareSpace. Dunno if that's an option, though. They at least have website templates. Don't know how well they handle DDoS attacks.
It´s a shame to see the page go, good thing some people have been making captures at https://web.archive.org/web/2021082...../foxxfire.com/ so at least it will not be gone forever if you´re able to just keep the domain.
I think you should definitely keep the domain, if for no other reason than this:
Creation Date: 2000-03-05T00:48:37
:D It *appears* to be through Tucows, but there's also another company name on it. It should cost roughly $15 a year, plus or minus, to keep the domain name.
Another argument for keeping it is that some of your older art has it on the image. If the domain is still there, critters can still find you that way.
The hosting behind it varies more. If it's only going to be a couple of static pages, you can probably get suitable hosting for maybe $5 a month. Look carefully when shopping, though... a lot of the cheaper companies offer things like "$5 a month for a year, then it auto-renews for $20 a month".
Definitely make a backup of everything that's there, buggy gallery scripts and all, before you tear down what you have. If the older images on your site aren't on your FA and other sites, you might be able to use something like PostyBirb to upload them. (You'd have to learn PostyBirb, and write descriptions and tags for the images, but it'd be a way to preserve them.)
Uploading and then re-uploading an existing image is an acknowledged workaround that preserves full image quality on FA until they get around to modernizing the file limits. If you already knew all that, never mind!
I'm glad I randomly clicked my journals, since I've been too crazy with the follow buttons over the years and rarely read them. I can hardly believe it's been like 20 years ago since ordering your art CD.
In any case, I'd suggest NEVER letting go of a domain that old and known!
Domain could lead to something like a linktr.ee or similar (even self-hosted) or a simple CMS with all the text content, with the gallery either as a simple one in a subfolder or put into a Google Drive or something.
Hit me up if you need any help with something.
Or, you know, a check for a million dollars pops up.. :3
