My two cents on the "Copycat" designs

-- DEVIANTART -- WEASYL -- SOFURRY -- TWITTER -- BLUESKY -- I know I am likely spinning my wheels here because I have no audience, but I am going to start with a video that I think illustrates the frivolousness of this sort thing and the problems that can arise from it.
But at the end of the video, Adam Neely brings up a quote from one of the members of Paramore which goes "[...]This shit happens a lot in creative spaces. [...] we've seen other people create things that feel similar to things that the band created ourselves. This just happens."
And while this was more of a case of deliberate inspiration, I don't think that is anyone's fault really, the design space idea is really interesting, other animals have had neon versions done of it for ages. Hell Umbreon could be considered an inspiration for a lot of neon glow critters. This feels like more that the owner of the two "OG" glow cobra's is just the first design that became popular within the furry space and thus propagated the creation of more of them. But early on it was a lot of outright stealing of the specific design combination that this owner in question created, and that is a fair reason to be mad.
But "glow cobra" as a concept has a lot of ways of iterating on it while also having very limited movement from the most popular design without it fundamentally become something else entirely.
As there are only so many chord progressions to work from, there too are only so many way to make a "glow cobra" look like a glow cobra outside of some changes to the patterns and colors picked. And honestly I feel both kind of riff on the suits from TRON Legacy, and also honestly who wouldn't Those suits were radical!

I just hope I can make splash, Nawka thinks the initial callout is should be dropped because the designs are very clearly distinct.
