Ouch, posted journal to some servers, no programs in the area able to help with emergency funds?

Due to the nature of all of this; the storage is considered “non-essential” so no one would help with that. Rent isn’t in a state of eviction for our apartment yet so nothing there. It’s that limbo period @.@

I wish I could help, but I will have zero funds until Thursday...

My advice is to pay the storage place off, as you can't be evicted at this point due to Covid laws- assuming you are in the US.

I myself am late on my rent too, which will get paid on the 9th. But if you still need help by then, ping me back.

Yes, that's the plan actually. We aren't too late on rent so wouldn't be evicted just yet anyways; however, the COVID laws are no longer in effect as of August 26th for my state so that wouldn't apply.

Our storage unit is more than our current rent; so we are applying what we have for said rent and adding whatever we can from people who help to cover the difference. Then do what we can between then and next payday to cover the missing rent. Juggling what money we can where we can etc.

You might be better served by saving a handful of things from your mother, and selling the rest as you can. Storage is a ridiculous business charging incredible fees. I had to do that when my mother passed. I only have a few treasured mementos I saved. I was like you, paying more to store stuff in a dark cave I never saw than I was in rent. I finally realized it can't be all that important to me if it is sitting in a dark cave that I never see. But I got caught up in "stuff = mom," not realizing that mom = mom and her stuff was not equal to her or my memories. So I facebooked and Ebayed out everything I could, after keeping what I wanted.

It was hard, trust me on that. I had to finally part with mom. But I was hanging on to her stuff as if it was her. She would not want that. Those objects were not her and it was seriously costing me a fortune.

It is of course up to you and you will need to bring your bill current if you want to see your money out of it. But my advice is, hard as it may be, to just sell what you can, keep a few things, and quit helping to make somebody else's car payment...

Oh, we already know; we've had this storage unit for well over 10 years now. The problem is that it isn't just my stuff to go through; it's my wife's as well. Long story short; I got it to store what shit we had from moving from one state to nearly half the US away (mind you we condensed 2 homes/5000 sq ft down into 2000 sq ft). Then from there a few years later we had to do the exact same amount for my wife who had to sell her home that was falling apart. We now have a 10x25 sq ft storage unit after condensing it from 3 other storage units. We were actually in the process of sorting it around the time my mother developed cancer.

So that said; it isn't an issue of going through it all emotionally as we've been doing it already and I don't directly get attached to items easily. It's the time it's taking to go through it, finding time to go do it with my wife's busy schedule, cost of gas to go to it from our new home, and many many other factors. We've tried selling what we could while we knock things down, but in the end, no one has shown interest in it... plus COVID made it hard for anyone to buy things as well.

Heh, you mention car payment too; that's another thing we are dealing with and trying to reduce.

Yeah; sadly it looks like we will still need help. On top of the stress of everything going on; my wife has started developing panic attacks and had to call out of work today (the panic attacks are a combination of things with the storage & rent adding to it). This will delay our rent payment. The good news is that I was able to get storage pushed to the 10th which gives me a little extra time to gather more funds for it and now for rent as well.

ugh I feel horrible asking for help like this, but there isn't anything in my power I can do right now outside of asking.

Ugh man I I've been there a few times on dealing with storage facility payments, we had a few we finally paid off awhile ago but man they were always a pain especially with late fees!

As much as I need money; Penelope is off-limits by order of my wife XD. She said "if you ever sell her I'll kick your ass" so yeah she sadly won't be sold
