Update

Hey all, I thought I would give a little update about the short term future.
Yesterday, I woke up to my dog throwing up and unwilling to eat or drink anything I offered her. It was canning day at my dad's house for the pears we picked, so I went ahead and brought her with me thinking it was just a bug or she ate something bad on Sunday. Instead, she just kept vomiting anything she ate or drank shortly after it was ingested. Around noon, she didn't even try to eat and was just laying in her bed in the kitchen while we canned.
Anyone who knows me irl knows that Bernadette is the most hyperactive and friendly dog in the world. She's always jumping and playing, so seeing her in such a bad state was very worrying. However, I still thought that she was just sick/ate some bad food and would be fine in a day. I've grown up with dogs all my life, but she's my first puppy and multiple times since I've had her I've overreacted thinking that she was not okay. After I lost Oma and the geckos this year, I've been a nervous wreck with my girls. Since I already had an appointment scheduled with the family vet this morning, I decided that I would stay the night with her at my dad's so she could rest and not be moved around too much (my apartment is over 30 minutes from the vet and his house is only 10).
She did not sleep well last night and, consequently, neither did I. The longest we slept was from 4 am to 7 am when she woke me up and finally fell asleep somewhat deeply when I held her. She hasn't really wanted to be cuddled to sleep like that since she was a baby.
At the vet this morning, she had an x-ray done that revealed a circular obstruction in her stomach. She was taken back and went into surgery at 3:45 this afternoon (so I'm waiting for them to call me when it's over). They won't know how much damage has been done to her stomach until it's cut open or what the obstruction is until they're taking it out. I may get her back tomorrow or the day after depending on the outcome. It's likely going to be very expensive and the recovery may last over a month, which causes plenty of problems in and of itself. I've already called off my birthday dinner this week because 1) I really don't feel like celebrating when she's this sick and 2) When I get her back I don't want to leave her by herself for any extended amount of time.
I'm not sure what the outcome of the surgery will be, but depending on how recovery goes I may not be able to draw as often. Commissions shouldn't be affected and, if they are, it will be a temporary suspension of in-stream ones. It kind of goes without saying, but if I'm more absent on my FA and Twitter this is why.
My animals are my life. They're my family and my source of pride. I lost four of them in the past year and all four of those were suddenly and nothing I could do to help them even after we got to the vet. It's been traumatic and Bernie has been a breath of fresh air in my life since I got her this May. So during this time I'm putting the majority of my time and energy into helping her recover from this.
I just wanted to let you all know in case I miss responding to comments here and there or you wonder why my art output suddenly decreases. Thank you for understanding.

She's made it through surgery and we'll know more about her condition tomorrow, so I'm hoping she'll be able to come home soon. Thank you again, it was really sweet of you to say
It’s good that she made it through surgery. It’s a little worrying that her condition isn’t yet known, but I guess not knowing if it’s good is better than knowing that it isn’t; you know the phrase, no news is better than bad news. If I were to guess, they might hold her for an extra day or two or three, but she will be okay. I’m still keeping you in my thoughts and prayers
This is excellent news! I’m glad that she turned out fine and I believe she will make a fast recovery. Did they say what they found during surgery? I’m kinda wondering if she ate something that doesn’t digest, like a ball or other type of toy.
