Pursuing Personal Projects
Posted 4 months agoThank you all for the support and the birthday wishes. I don't know where I'd would be without all of you. With that said, there has been something on my mind for a while that I need to talk about.
So I've been working for many years whether at odd jobs or commission work to make ends meet, and I hit a bit of a rut. All I'm doing is working to pay bills, and it leaves me feeling unfulfilled. Something has been missing in my art. I'm going to take time off to pursue my personal projects again.

Posted 7 months agoA big thanks to everyone for the well wishes and checking up on me during a very rough time I've been having lately. I'm hoping to getting back to posting soon.
Absent for a Bit
Posted 9 months agoI know i haven't posted in a while. I've just been taking a break and thinking about life stuff. I'll be back to post stuff eventually when I'm feeling better.
Thank you everyone for your continued support, and I apologize for being so distant lately.

Posted a year agoI want to thank everyone for making this big doofy shark feel special on his birthday. I got to spend time with a lot of sweet people here, and I had a lovely time just sitting here reading all your comments. Really, I'm overwhelmed with emotion, thank you~đź’™
What is the deal with Shoe Loss?
Posted a year agoI had a few people ask me about shoe loss, and really there is no way I can mention it without going into a whole spiel about it, so rather than tire myself out every time I meet somebody new, I am going to refer people to this journal. The simple way to describe it is, “Toon has sneakers and then loses them.” but why is this a thing? Well strap in for a very long ramble.
First thing is to talk about Retifism, which is the attraction of shoes. Growing up in the 90s, game shows were a big deal on Nickelodeon, Nick Arcade, Nickelodeon Guts, and my favorite, Legends of the Hidden Temple. This was a game show that had teams of kids wearing differently colored animal shirts and competing for prizes, and always in between each match that would have their show’s sponsor, and one of their biggest Sponsors was Sketcher’s Shoes, and they would almost always advertise this during the whole show, and the brands they usually had involved a lot of straps and zippers and flashing lights built into them, they were very flashy. As a kid, this can be highly impressionable to be shown all these flashy and shiny sneakers in my face “gotta have them” subliminal messages, so while I never owned a pair, I was forever enamored with sneakers. I would look at magazine ads, or visit the mall and find the most colorful flashy shoes. What’s more is that Space Jam came out an Bugs Bunny sported the Air Jordans, a very flashy, and expensive shoe and when I seen him shove them on, and I mean like completely stretch them out, it further planted the seed about toons in shoes.
Shoe loss in toons is actually not as rare as you would think. I’ve seen it happen with a lot of old cartoons, and funny enough the biggest reason for me loving shoe loss was Donald Duck, and he never wore shoes, but he was somehow involved. Alpine Climbers and Sky Trooper were two old ones that come to mind, the silly slide whistle or whirling noise when the shoes and socks came off made it rather silly, but also really fun for me, and gave me the first taste of how one way shoe loss can be done, in this case I call the gravity drop, when character A in hanging in the air and they fall off, either by kicking them off accidentally or being forced down by character B, the one hanging onto them. To this day I’m still looking for that rare Disney footage where Donald does this to Mickey, and he had on several pairs of wacky socks under his hiking boots that made a lot of boinks and whirling noises as Donald pulled them off, and it ended with Mickey wearing a cloth boot. I don’t remember much about it except I think it was part of the Wonderful World of Color with Ludwig Von Drake talking about allegros, as least I believe so. Incidentally if anybody can ever find this clip for me, I’ll draw them something for free. Even after 10 years, my offer still stands.
So the thing with shoes, for me, is that they represent a sort of power and status. In my little world of Sunnisyde, having shoes generally is saved for more of the upper class and well groomed individuals. It’s also a sort of a main character status. There are the haves and have nots, and really there is this strong divide between them which dates back to my own distorted timeline of Captain Pelicus and Emperor Lord Balsamic. Basically the pirate tracked mud into his palace with his clunky boots and the emperor outlawed them outright, even going so far as having his personal guards mug anybody who wore any shoes. There was this rebellion where Pelicus eventually won one and thus the town of Sunnisyde. However there are various people who don’t wear shoes, either of low status or they just don’t like them. A lot of shops have the “No shirts, no shoes, no service” and this in itself is a real issue with some of the anti-shoe residents, particularly Riff Raff and the Nasties. Not only are shoes valuable here, they are somewhat necessary as the shoe residents are somewhat reliant on them. This is just some lore of what goes on my head, but why are these shoes so important?
As I said, shoes are a power status, but it can be more than that. Think about everyday tasks, things like walking down a road that could be hot from the sun or have rocks and sharp debris, well sneakers would help that a lot. What about trekking in the frozen snow or skating along the ice? Well snow boots and ice skates would be handy. How about climbing a mountain? Well hiking boots and spikes would be necessary here. Now imagine at that very moment you got them caught in something and lost them or somebody took them? Now you have to walk the harsh roads, snowy paths, slippery ice, and jagged rocks barefoot. A relatively simple task is now made more difficult without them.
The same thing goes for gadget shoes. There are magnet boots that would otherwise making sticking to metal surfaces, especially with places with a low gravitational pull that could leave you floating off into space or falling if you were upside down, flight boots which also could keep you airborne if you suddenly lost them, sprint shoes which you would be slow as a snail in comparison barefoot, spring shoes that give you vertical leap, or maybe even boots which change your physical powers, or even something as simple as Steel Sabatons, which are good for tremor attack or to keep somebody from stepping on your foot had you not be wearing them.
Lately I’ve also been into downgrading footwear, basically whether through forced trade or magical, lower the grade of footwear; Boots->Sneakers->FlipFlops->None. The best example would be if the character has bulky rocket roller blade boots and they got powered down to regular roller blade sneakers, then skates attached to straps, then barefoot. Each downgrade is less powerful than the one before. I even humored this idea with Feathered Fury, a game where losing your shoes makes your attacks less powerful and more prone to environment hazards like oil slicks and spikes.
There are tons of ways a character can lose their shoes, and really there is no limit to the kinds of ways, but I’ll try to cover as many as I can. First there’s the gravity drop, as I mentioned before, suspended in air and they fall off, usually from another character hanging onto them.
Next is force impact, where an object or person and slam into them and they fly out of them, things like a wrecking ball, a water blast, a pie, punch. Asterix has their iconic uppercut character out of their shoes bit. There’s also the old Peanuts gag when Charlie brown gets hit with a baseball and all his clothes fly off, still a classic for me. You can also accidentally kick off your shoe, as characters such as Doug Funnie, Serena Tsukino, Sakura Kasugano, and Donald Duck illustrate very well! In fact I dare say it’s this very gag that caused my obsession with ducks in the first place!
A classic would be getting stuck in something and they come off. The most classic would be mud, but there’s also quicksand, tar, glue, or a tentacle monster or octopus grabbing your legs. This is more of a slow struggle into the eventual pop off. Wile E Coyote got his spring shoes stuck to a cactus until he unlaces his shoes and popped his feet out of them, so there’s no limit to the imagination here. I even saw in Top Wing a boot getting stuck in a giant clam, very silly.
Then there’s things like magnets, lassos, and vacuums, which these tools do more than just remove the shoes, but it’s a quick and effective method to remove everything off a toon. The clothing hurricane is still my favorite gag where the toon gets spun around so hard their clothes fly off.
A very uncommon but fun mechanic would be battle damage. Shoes can burned off by fire or acid. You could also stretch them out to the point of breaking, usually from blimping. You could also have them destroyed by combat, as well as your clothes, when taking damage from something. This sort of thing is not as common but can be fun in the right context, for example doing tome fancy sword work only for the character’s clothes to explode into pieces when sliced to bits. Sparkster did that to his enemies a lot, leaving them in their underwear.
Lastly a form a shoe loss I tend to use a lot, blatant shoe theft or the one sided trade. That’s what character B, usually barefoot himself, takes the shoes from character A and wears them himself. This comes in a lot of flavors on how they go about it, whether they knock them out first and casually untie and remove them, or yanking them off with force. This has a lot of effects. Not only is character A’s feet being exposed to the elements and losing his status, character B then protects his feet and gains his status with the shoes they stole. For example, it’s the winter and character B is trekking in the snow barefoot and is freezing. Meanwhile Character A’s feet are toasty warm in boots and socks. Character B steals character A’s boots and socks and puts them on him. So now Character A loses the warmth and protection of the boots and socks and his feet are exposed to the cold, now Character be gains that warmth and protection. His is a power shift. It’s a lot more apparent with something like speed shoes or rocket boots, footwear with actual application, and those power shifted from person to person, and it’s usually involving a protagonist hero and a thug flunkie. Can you imagine a hero stripped of his powers of flight or being able to battle without succumbing to stepping on a sharp rock or having his foot stomped on, by the thug who just stile his boots and his powers? What about a hockey game when you’re slipping around the cold ice barefoot while the other guy casually skates along and scores circles around you because he nabbed your ice skates in the middle of the game? How about dangling off the edge of a cliff, unable to catch a grip with your feet, while the other guy climbs that hill no problem while wearing your hiking boots and spikes? This is what I mean by the power transference. The most basic of this though is just pulling off the other person’s sneakers and socks and pulling them on yourself, that very moment, you can almost feel the power changing hands, er, feet.
This is really the best way I can some it up. Toons look really nice in shoes, but it can also be fun when they lose them in various and sometimes humorous ways. There’s also the fact that toon feet are very vulnerable after that, so they have to watch out for hot, cold, slippery, or sharp things, and the occasional tickle. It’s a status symbol, a power flux, and the envy of several thugs that wish to obtain them. I hope this explains it for people, and I hope to never go on a long and huge discussion about this with anybody ever again, haha!

Taking a Break
Posted a year agoGoing to be absent for a bit. I need space to clear my head and think about things.
My Own Little World
Posted 2 years agoI never really had any friends back then. I was always the kid who ate alone in the lunchroom, or sat in the corner doing homework while my classmates socialized and had fun. I spent a lot of time by myself playing with my action figures and watching cartoons. I've drawn since I was 6, and I used to really get into those shows that had ties of friendships, thigs like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Power Rangers, and Nickelodeon's Doug.
When I first heard of the furry fandom in college, I was already creating my own characters. Starting out if was a lot of shoe loss stuff. I know when I was a kid, I saw stuff that forever imprinted that thought in my mind, though I couldn't tell you what they were, just hazy vague memories. I always thought I was a weirdo, but I started to find my place with these new people. When I created some of my first sonas like Terry, Mutteo, and Aodhan, it was my hope to make friends and not feel so alone. Back then the fandom was very different, and in the end the only people I would feel comfortable with were my own creations. I didn't have a lot of self esteem back then, and I made and lost friends as often as a revolving door. It was a very sad existence.
One day I met two friends that completely changed my world around. The first was my dog Otis, and he helped me during the worst of times, gave me unconditional love, and a beacon of life, and cemented my love for animal characters. The other was Rik, and he forever changed my views of everything and saw the world itself in a new light that I could understand.
It was then that I found my own style and started to create a world for myself, filled with lots of characters with their own personalities, dreams, and friendships. This was a world I could lose myself in. I would eventually call this place Sunnisyde, where shoes were a part of the town's history and the greatest commodity, a place where most of the characters are adolescent teens, a time that I never got to experience being a lone introvert. I never went to the mall with friends, I never went to the prom, never experienced love, none of that. Maybe this is a way to experience life I never did, through my art. Really it's the only life i would ever know.
I'm married to my art, first and foremost, but lately I've been a bit lost for a while. I hid from people for years and buried my work so nobody would see it. When Otis died, I started to lose my sense of self and purpose. Coming back to the fandom, was a way to come back to my roots and realized that kind of impact my life has been over the years. I'm still trying to find my way, but the people I've met along the way really shaped me into the person I am today.
The thing I have to come to understand is Sunnisyde and all of its inhabitants are an extension of myself, my heart and soul, and I need to remember how important is is for me to allow it to grow and nurture and become the world I hope it will be. I only have so many years on this Earth, and it is my dream that world will live in the hearts of others, its colors, its happiness, it's energy, and perhaps it will become even more than it already is.
I thank everyone for entering my world and enjoying everything it has to offer. This is my very being, my everything, to be able to draw and illustrate my inner passion for all to see.
I hope it has made you smile. Here's to a better and brighter tomorrow~

Feeling Better
Posted 2 years agoThank you everyone for your kind words and support this past month. I should be feeling better enough to start posting stuff again, in time for Halloween.
Things will be a bit hectic for me though, as I will be cleaning the house and making preparations for a new arrival next week. I'll be soon taking care of a puppy and that will most likely tucker me out, but I'll be sure to make art to post when I can.

Will be absent for a while
Posted 2 years agoI'll be away for some time. I'm mourning the loss of my dog right now, and wont be able to talk or work for a while.
Thank You Everyone, and FUTURE NEWS
Posted 2 years agoThank you everyone to all the kind and motivational words you've given me. I never realized the kind of impact I've made to people after 10 years of art I have posted. I feel like I can start on a more positive direction and be more active with the community. I know I have a lot on my mind, but I'm hoping over time, I can find now avenues and soar to greater heights.
I finished with all my massive art uploads. Thank you for your patience with that. I have also posted some of the artwork that I didn't get to post here, to scraps for anybody interested in the old drawings and sketches that I have done. It's a lot so I hope you don't get lost looking through them, haha!
It's been great getting feedback on a lot of my characters. I know people really like the Kosmics, Ultramutt, and Dexter, but there were also some others that surprised me;
Pico, Skuzz, Boots Moose, Pelicus, Oswald, Aodhan, Vinny, Two-headed alien, Zilda, Logan, Riley, BJ, and Dustin. I have nearly 200 OCS and growing, however it's really nice to know when people like some of my background characters, it tells me that I should draw more of them, so thank you!
I also have a Deviant Art Gallery, and for those wanting to see my Cleafurry art, I'll send you a link with the search tab showing most of the work from 2009-14
https://www.deviantart.com/2ooniver.....ry?q=cleafurry
So what are my plans for FA? I will be uploading on a more relaxed basis (art once or twice every or so week) There are plans for Ultramutt at some point, and I will be wanting to explore some anime stuff again, to improve my toonime look.
As for commissions, I am still closed currently and will be only be reserving those to close friends for the time being. HOWEVER I'm thinking sometime around the holidays I could advertise, but I will need to update my commission sheet as soon as I get a chance to do so.
I've been talking with other artists about the possibility of streaming as a future plan. I'm sure people would like seeing that, though if people were also interested in game streaming really boring object find games, I could consider that.
Anyway it's great to be back here on FA and hope I can share more with the community and hopefully brighten up people's days with art that I post. Thanks again to everyone!
