Artpacks2
Posted 3 years agoApologies for flip flopping on it, but it looks like the artpacks just arent going to work out right now, had to take them down again, looks like it'll stay that way for the foreseeable future.
Artpacks
Posted 3 years agoFor those who might be looking for them, I've had to remove the artpacks for now due to some rather tedious complications.
I may be able to put them back up in the future, in which case I'd still like to release more of them. For now though it's all unfortunately in a state of limbo.

Future Artpacks
Posted 6 years agoFigured it's time for a quick journal update since it's been quite a while.
I was really happy and grateful to see that the reception to the dino artpack, and the idea of artpacks in general was quite positive. In recent months I've been finishing and fixing up more of my older drawings, as well as working on new content with the aim of making some more packs over time.
In truth, I've found the idea of working on images as themed collections to be more motivating than working on individual commissions. Something about each image being part of a greater whole makes progress more satisfying, and gives me reason to go back and finish up works that I'd previously set aside. Given the fact that I'm too inconsistent these days to consider something like Patreon, I figure art packs will likely be my primary means to make a bit of money from drawing.
Of course Ill still have stuff to post to my gallery here, I cant see my rate of uploads changing much, since I have always been pretty irregular with uploads.

Art Pack Interest?
Posted 7 years agoI've been gathering and touching up a bunch of dinosaur drawings that Ive done over the years, with a mind to put together a sort of dino themed art pack. I'm curious how much interest there would be in a macro feral dino pack largely focused on insertion/ alt-vore, and hyper themes. These would of course be drawings that I havent posted here, or to any other online galleries.
I'm also still trying to think of the best way to actually sell it. I dont have my own website, and currently dont know of any existing digital storefronts that might be easy to use for hosting that sort of thing.
Would be great to get some thoughts and suggestions from folks.

An Update
Posted 7 years agoFigured I may as well put up a journal to let folks know I am still around, and to not have a nearly 2 year old one sitting on my page..
I obviously havent been terribly active here for a while, but I hope to be posting some more here soon.

"The Establishment"
Posted 9 years agoYup.., this is the actual world we live in..
I wont subject anyone to seeing his name here, because god knows we're going to be seeing and hearing it enough for the next 4 fucking years. I have nothing novel to say about my personal reactions to this. Disgust, disappointment, ect.
I guess "more of the same" wasnt a good campaign strategy. Those who werent outright racists, bigots, xenophobes, or pure ignorant idiots, thought they gave a middle finger to the system in the form of a vote for him...
I have some thoughts towards those out there who thought it might be cute to support him as some symbolic "rejection of the establishment". The bored, shortsighted folks that seem to think a crumbling system would be fun to watch, anything but more of the same right? He's the "molotov cocktail that we can legally throw into the system" yadda yadda.
If those people 'do' get what they want, and he is a death stroke to our government, it wont look like fucking Mad Max Fury Road, or any apocalyptic fantasy free of tedious social norms, it'll look like rows and rows of empty department stores, colonies of people lving in tents, it'll look like bread lines and soup kitchens, it'll look like a slow shameful death, where the masses that wanted to fuck the system are the first to suffer, and will suffer the most.
Meanwhile, the establishment we rightfully hate, will still be there, pissing on you from the decks of their yachts. If things go downhill as a result of this, will the corperate media, and the corporatocracy "learn their lesson"? or will they use the influence and power they already have to make sure their own asses can ride it out as long as possible?
None of that will probably come to pass though, most likely we'll get the same bullshit as we did in the 2000s, topped off by having to hear about the latest idiotic thing that cunt has said every day for the next 4 years, at which point people will be fed-up enough to elect a less annoying corporate candidate.

I swear Im not a contrarian...
Posted 9 years agoI saw Zootopia. It was pretty good.
Wondered what good ol' Rotten Tomatoes was saying about it(cause we know that is the final authority on what we should like)
At 98% Zootopia is currently rated better than:
The entire original Star Wars trillogy,
Schindler's List,
Pulp Fiction,
The entire Lord of the Rings trillogy,
and probably your personal favorite movie... unless it's Zootopia.
Honestly I thought only furries would be furiously stroking themsevles off to this, but apparently it was the critics who got the biggest boners.
I expect the score to drift down a little whenever the current social justice hysteria settles down. Still, it is an interesting phenominon, the predictability of anything that makes topical social commentary getting so much praise.
Well, it was a good movie. It had a driven, and generally compelling main character, some interesting and creative visuals, and some memorable funny moments. Nick in particular was a wonderfully dickish scene stealing character. For at least part of the movie anyway. For me, it was one of the better, but not the best, Disney movies.
Also, it gets extra points for Breaking Bad refference.
(now spoilers)
Now for the things I think it probably should have been criticised more harshly on. Ready your pitchforks, light your torches!
The main characters had some consistency problems... Nick didnt have a natural feeling character arc, it was like a switch was flipped when he needed to go from being a perfect jerk, to a sympathetic, heroic companion for the sake of the plot. Judy also had a strange character conflicting moment, making a completely insinsitive, offensive speech, even though she was depicted in every other part of the film as being very sensitive and conscientious toward racial issues.
Also, how was almost nobody in the world aware of an apparently common flower that causes people to go feral? How was Judy somehow unaware of even the name of them, when she apparently grew up on a farm where they were grown? I'm not normally one to catch plot holes, but that one was big enough to kind of take me out of the movie for a bit.
I probably wasnt alone in being bugged by some parts of this feeling rushed, but I might be the only one dumb enough to knock it on a furry site.

5000 Watchers Thank You
Posted 10 years agoI've always felt a little weird about celebrating traffic milestones, it sometimes has a self congradulatory vibe rather than feeling like an epression of gratitude. I will forgo the celebratory 5000 watchers picture, but I do feel that I should express humble gratitude for the interest and feedback people have given over the years.
I know I dont respond to comments very frequently, and I always worry that this comes off as seeming ungrateful. In all honesty, I'm just a bit uncomfortable with replies, I generally want to respond with something of substance, or answer a question. I dont want to give brief two or three word replies that come off as patronising or canned. The last impression I want to give is that I am ungrateful for the feedback. I do read every comment, and most of them are very kind and encouraging. I have found them to be a great source of motivation over the years. So, I want to give many thanks to those that have taken the time to comment, fave, or watch.
Even though my rate of posting is rather slow, I do plan to keep going with it for the forseeable future. I dont really expect to be putting up drawings with any more frequency, but I do hope people can get some enjoyment from them nonetheless.

Jurassic World Follow Up Stuff
Posted 10 years agoI was quite happy to see that Jurassic World is a hit at the box office. It's currently sitting around $570 million worldwide, which hopefully tells hollywood that people want more dinosaurs, or at least more giant monsters.
It even beat out "The Avengers" opening record... which lends credit to a pet theory that I have. I think people are actually kind of getting sick of superhero movies, and Jurassic World offered them something a little different while still being big and flashy.
Nothing against the Avengers of course, I liked the first movie and I will probably like the second when I do see it. Still, Jurassic World is kind of a welcome break from all the angst and shallow "origin stories" that we've been getting in our blockbusters lately.
Of course there is already talk of sequils, and the movie did leave a big opening for one, but the direction it might take could be a little strange to say the least.
I think one of the reasons the other sequils didnt work and this one did, is because this one actually stays with the theme of the first movie. The theme park theme. It's more fun to see something that looks shiny and safe get wrecked, to see a nightmare scenario come to life. The other sequils didnt really deliver that, they were about people going to an island filled with free roaming dinosaurs and unsurprisingly getting eaten(and stomped).
Now that the park is presumably going to be shut down again, I wonder how they can re-create the fun of seeing best laid plans go tits up.

Jurassic World Review, Kind of
Posted 10 years agoYes I went to the first showing even though I've been kind of trash talking it since the first trailer.
In the end, I decided to throw out all of my fanboyism for the original and try to enjoy the movie as a stand alone monster flick... and in that sense, it works just fine.
The main cast is likable enough. The movie doesnt linger on the kids too much, but they arent too annoying, and I actually found their sub-plot to be sort of endearing. I was even okay with Pratt as the "sane and pragmatic guy" in the movie.
Ultimately though, we are in it for the dinosaurs, and the movie thankfully knows that. The action gets going fairly quickly, and we even get to see some of the predator dinosaurs (aka: the ones we give a shit about) pretty much right away. Pratt is the resident raptor rancher, and he has a tentative "bond" with the pack. We get to see him give them orders, and keep them at bay in a few credibility straining scenes. This is the point where we are introduced to the obligatory villain. The guy who wants to exploit the animals in some fassion or other.
This time our villain wants to train the raptors for use in warfare(yep). If this wasnt enough of an eyeroller, the guy playing the villain is one of the worst casting choices I have ever seen. He looks and acts like your asshole redneck neighbor(or your regional equivalent). This kind of villain is such a tired cliche, but if you're going to do it, at least give us a guy who is legitimately crazy or eccentric, not the guy you hired paint the set. This character starts out as a cartoon, and only gets worse throughout the film, breaking the credibility and enjoyability of every scene he appears in. Unfortunately this weaponized dinosaur plot sort of takes over the latter part of the film. I think it's the movie's weakest element, and ultimately not even necessary.
The film didnt need another bad guy, we have the Indominus Rex for that. The dinosaur that can do litterally everything except fly and shoot lasers out of it's ass. It's basically what an 8 year old would come up with if you asked them to design their own dinosaur. It makes a good B movie monster, and has some satisfying encounters with humans and other dinosaurs. It's such a genuine douchebag that I even found myself wanting to see it defeated near the end.
The film moves along at a good pace, and has plenty of dinosaurs and action, which already makes it better than that pretentious vapid bullshit that was Godzilla 2014. Suspenseful moments are unfortunately rare, but there are a few at least, and the Trex has a pretty good entrance I thought. Is it as good as the original? Fuck no. It isnt even in the same ballpark, or genre even. It gets far too silly toward the end, and the guy who plays the villain needs to die IRL, but it was good fun, and the raptors were adorable.
If you like dinosaurs, and can handle a B movie plot, I'd say its worth seeing in the theater. If seeing Pratt riding a motorcycle alongside a pack of raptors was almost too absurd for you, then you might want to think about just renting it...
Edit:
Guess I should also mention that we do get plenty of close-ups and good angles of dinosaur feet. Only one person got stomped that I saw, which was a dissapointment of course, but the beefy dinosaur feet were nice to look at in general. Paw fans will probably be pleased.

The Good Dinosaur
Posted 10 years agoWhen I heard that Pixar was workiing on a dinosaur movie, I got really excited.
Then I saw the teaser trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QlRSVKwFA0
I am less excited.
The trailer doesnt give any plot details other than saying it takes place in an alternate world where the dinosaurs werent killed off, but does give some brief glimpses of the dinosaurs themselves...
I'll just say it. The dinosaurs look ugly. The more clearly we see them, the less interesting they look. I'm not sure why you would make a movie about dinosaurs, and obviously hang your hat on the selling power of dinosaurs, and then make your dinosaurs visually boring, and in some cases... actually kind of retarded looking.
Yeah, yeah, its a kids movie, and the dinosaurs are meant to look cuddly or something, but when the T-rex toy from Toy Story looks more convincing, I think you've gone too far with the minimalist thing.
Who knows, maybe the old Pixar magic will make up for it. Let's just hope we get the "Toy Story" and "Incredibles" Pixar magic, and not the "Cars 2" Pixar magic...

Another Jurrassic World Thing
Posted 10 years agoI'll be honest, I'm not expecting much from this movie, but I kind of expected better than this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfZwU24LWIA
Gonna be honest again. I dont like Chris Pratt, at least not in anything other than some goofy self aware sci-fi comedy. The fact that; out of a movie that contains a giant mutant super predator, they have chosen to entice us with this clip depicting Pratt being a prat suggests that they are banking on the sudden inexplicable popularity of this guy rather than a compelling plot or interesting characters, or indeed any novel action sequences.
So a once revolutionary and now classic film has been turned into a mediocre franchise that has finally been reduced to nothing more than a vehicle for an overated largely unfunny frat boy.
Plus it looks like the only message of any depth this movie pretends to care about is the old "science bad, nature good" crap. As Pratt eloquently states "Dnosaurs dont know that they came from test tubes." Deep shit.
Here's another stupidly obvious quote: "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program" - Some writer guy.
Science has of course provided us with the tools to utterly destroy ourselves, but ironically it is also the one thing that can save us from an otherwise inevitable demise.
Global extinction events happen, a number of them have happened in the past, and they will continue to happen even without human involvment. It is said that more than 99% of the species that have ever existed on earth are now extinct, and no, humanity is not a primary, or even significant, contributor to that number.
When another such global catastrophe happens, humans will very likely be among the species that survive, thanks to science. If we are confronted by a "planet killer" a super big space rock that is capable sterilizing the planet, we have a better chance than any species that ever existed on earth to survive it, and it will be thanks again to tools provided by science.
To be fair, the first film also had an anti-science message, and I think it was unessicary even then, but this is 22 years later, and with a new movie they have a chance to make a more nuanced statement. As this clip, and the other trailers show us, they have taken the lazy rout and chosen to make use of a tired trope, and in a rather clumsy way at that.
In the end, I feel that I should express my dissaproval of the shameless milking of once great films, and the continued pointless shaming of science, by boycotting this film.
Fuck that. Dinosaurs. nuff sed.

Jurassic World Trailer
Posted 11 years agohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXiahojLbOw
I'm letting myself be hopeful about this one, at least in terms of having some decent dinosaur action. The plot is an interesting setup, I guess giving a vision of the park if it had been successful.
buuut of course disaster is inevitable, and many people will be stomped and chomped in creative and gratuitous ways for our amusmement.
I admit that if I wasnt a dinosaur addict I might be rather annoyed about milking the success of a classic. None of the JP sequils have come close to having the impact of the original film, and this one is going to be a good monster flick at best. Artistically, Jurassic Park did not need a sequil. Sort of like the Matrix, it was a complete package that is only muddled by "expansions" to the fiction. I'm also a bit concerned about the possibility of the central characters being kids..., I find that kids in movies to range from annoying to unrelatable, but who knows, maybe they will actually be talented and charismatic actors.

Jurassic World News?
Posted 11 years agoI'm not sure how much credence I should lend to the current gossip about this film. The only thing that seems to be certain is that its actually being made.
(Edit: Apparently I am late for the hype train and this is old news, I didnt even know this thing was actually being filmed yet :o
Here I thought I was on top of everything monster related.)
However; seeing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-nblOEk8NY The annoying chiry ETV stlye of that show aside, I can only hope that it is the actual plot. It's the perfect giant monster movie setup: An island heavily populated with jaded tourests too comfortable for their own good, and a genetically engineered giant predatory dinosaur.
I actually think its a pretty interesting concept as well, in a world where we actually do take so much for granted, even dinosaurs might become old news... and we know the dinosaurs wont be having it.
Either way, we can expect to actually see dinosaurs in our dinosaur movie. Jurassic Park films havent been shy about giving their monsters lots of screen time, unlike some recent movies I can think of...

My Thoughts on Weasyl and the FA "Exodus"
Posted 11 years agoTwo things happen whenever I happen across an FA artist profile that has been emptied of all submissions, save for a "Deleted all my stuff and moved here" picture and a link to a Weasyl gallery. First, I am reminded that Weasyl is still a thing, and then I get kind of annoyed.
The message this sends to people is "FA is beneath me, but I still want all the FA traffic, so I wont close my account fully." These types of people have done lasting damage to that site. They are killing the thing that they want to succeed. People have a sense for when someone is trying to manipulate them, and this type of thing sets off all the alarms, its sort of the equivalent of taking your ball and going home. If you wanted to make some sort of principled stand against FA, then you shouldn't still be sucking from the FA teet as it were. It makes you a hypocrite, and it makes Weasyl look unwelcoming and snobbish.
I do like the features offered by Weasyl. I even have a Weasyl and SoFurry account(with hardly anything in them at the moment), I like the folders, I want to be able to organize my submissions in a sensible way, and not just have a main gallery, and then "scraps" which sort of feels like equating it to trash that is hardly worth posting. I like a lot of the stuff that I put in scraps, I dont post stuff I dont like in some way. Having a "WIP" or "Old Projects" folder would be nice.
I hear that Weasyl is not as friendly to writers. One hopes that they will see the importance of allowing writers more flexibility. For now SoFurry seems to be the most welcoming site for writers, and also doesn't have the same snobbish aura.
As for Furaffinity..
I always acknowledge the fact that FA is a free service that I have benefited from in a number of ways, but I too am annoyed at the seeming refusal or inability to modernize the site. It almost feels like the owners are resting on their laurels. Since lots of people still use it, they do not feel an urgency to make it better. There doesnt seem to be any desire to maintain the community, feels like they are going to ride it till it breaks and then move on.
At this rate, FA will die. Its just a matter of what will overtake it. Sadly, in their zeal to make the transition happen faster, the advocates of Weasyl have given it the stigma of pretentiousness, and many people have made their own principled stand; they will not be manipulated.

Now for something a little transcendent
Posted 11 years agoIts time to balance out some of my negative review journals with a few links to pretty epic and topical works.
Its always fun to see imperceptible scales put into some perspective, so here's a brilliant interactive scale based on distances between planets in the solar system: http://joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace.....rsystem.html?a
This one is pretty famous, and a lot of you have surely already seen it, but those who haven't should really have a look:
http://htwins.net/scale2/
"If the Moon were a Pixel" actually adds even more perspective to the "Scale of the Universe".
Kinda makes my mind drift toward giga macro...

The inevitable Godzilla review
Posted 11 years agoFirst of all, if you are one of those people that likes to narrate the movie out loud, and go "wooo" every time something dramatic happens. I want you to take a large knife, plunge it into your stomach, give it a few twists, then pour a bottle of Draino into the resulting hole.
For those of you still alive, I will try to give a spoiler free review, but its difficult to do so, because one of the things that has a large(negative) impact on the quality of the movie is a major spoiler.
Sooo, The movie has a strong start, with some compelling dramatic moments, the characters are likable, and I cared about their plight. I wanted to see more of them..., but Then we get introduced to a new set of characters that are rather less interesting. These are the ones we wind up following for the remainder of the film.
This is where the director's choice to make the monsters illusive starts to become tedious. I felt like a majority of the film was spent watching guys watch screens and talk about where interesting stuff is happening. At one point there is potentially exciting appearance of a muto in a large city, and then the movie instantly cuts to some downs syndrome kid watching the interesting stuff on TV. This type of thing repeats itself over and over. The "slow burn" amounts to showing glimpses of much more interesting things, and then cutting to the same guys saying the same things over and over.
If you want to make this type of slow burn monster movie, you need to have characters that people give a shit about. There weren't really any for most of this film, and the ones we are supposed to care about never do or say anything interesting or compelling when they are on the screen. Mostly we see them running in one direction or another, spouting tedious dialogue that we have heard in a thousand movies before.
The director wanted to avoid "CGI fatigue" so he instead gives us nothing but fluff for most of the film. I personally was getting radar and seismometer fatigue.
As for the monsters, I thought the mutos looked cool, the few scenes where we get to see them for more than 5 seconds were interesting and exciting. There wasn't much in the way of rampage scenes, because again, whenever there might have been one, the movie cuts to something much less interesting.
Oh right! I forgot, Godzilla is in the movie.
For what probably amounts to 5 full minutes of screen time. As a result, he has no actual personality. He isn't the anti-hero, the necessary evil, the force of nature. He barely interacts with humanity at all, so we dont fear him, or... really feel anything towards him. It almost feels like he's there out of obligation, because his name is on the label. He just shows up at the end to punch around, and be punched around by the mutos, and eventually destroy them in admittedly cool ways.
So my overall rating is... meh
It had a strong start but dissolves into a generic and sometimes tedious summer popcorn movie. Tries nothing new, accomplishes nothing noteworthy.
It isnt bad per-se, but rather disappointing. I dont really regret seeing it, I just wish it had been bold enough to give the audience more of what they actually came to see.

Is Godzilla in Godzilla?
Posted 11 years agoI have come to terms with the fact that the new Godzilla is ugly, has no feet, or neck, a tiny head, and barely has any arms... Even Japanese fans are making fun of him, he's been dubbed Marshmallow Zilla, among other things.
Maybe he looks better in motion right?
http://www.vulture.com/2014/05/you-.....-godzilla.html
In a nutshell, the word is that he is barely seen for most of the film.
Okay, its just some random online media journal, but I see other things like this popping up about the movie. Even the director has said he wants Godzilla to be elusive for most of the film. Of course people are paying to see a Godzilla movie, but they dont want to actually see him for more than 15 seconds at a time because they might get "fatigued" by Godzilla's presence in a Godzilla film.
So, the new Godzilla is ugly as all hell, but at least we wont have to see much of him.

The full Godzilla Animated Series DVD
Posted 11 years agoGodzilla (aka Zilla) was the subject my first giant monster love affair, his lithe and sexy design got to me more than the "traditional" Godzilla. Not to mention the fact that his particularly attractive feet were featured rather frequently in the film.
Unfortunately the movie famously sucked, nailing down the coffin lid for any possible big screen sequels. Zilla lived on for a few seasons in a cartoon series that many macrophiles are probably familiar with, but after the show was canceled, there was never a full DVD release of all of the episodes. Only 9 of them actually made it onto DVD to my knowledge. So most of the show was lost to memory...
... until now: http://www.amazon.com/Godzilla-The-...../dp/B00I099JZK
I assume they are hoping to make a little bank from the renewed interest in Godzilla, thanks to the upcoming movie. All fine by me, I'll be happy to finally have the whole series to watch again, and add to my probably-too-large collection of monster stuff. Apparently there are 2 unreleased episodes included, we can assume they didn't make it past the censors because of all the crushing and carnage.
Also, cant we ever get a Godzilla or Kaiju category in the search filters? Why can I filter for "Tanuki" or freaking "Chocobo" but not "Kaiju"?

Fake?
Posted 12 years agoSo, some models of the Godzilla 2014 design have been floating around, mostly pretty dubious stuff...
But now this particular design keeps showing up: http://news.toyark.com/2014/01/26/m.....evealed-112117
Obviously I am a fan of the 1998 design of Godzilla, but I can mostly live with the pointless upright posture and the tiny head... what the fuck is wrong with his feet? Of all things, how can you give Godzilla tiny gimp feet? Toes exist for a reason, they keep us from falling on our faces all day... this Godzilla might be totally harmless as a result of not even being able to stand up.
Hopefully these are speculative designs. Though does anyone have some actual info on whether or not this is the real thing?

Birthday gifts
Posted 12 years agoI became one year deader as of Oct. 1st, and as a form of consolation I got some very kind gifts from friends.
rangarig sent me a cute Gino action figure that I'd been looking for for a while, wish I had a descent camera to show it off, but no such luck.
ajder has also created the first full color image of my naga character Subaka:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11821718/ Displaying his greater appreciation for the cerebral, despite being built like a tank.
Ajder did a great job of capturing his personality here, despite there being very little material to work from. Hopefully I can finish some of my own images of him sometime.
Also, seems like blue is a popular color for nagas, I've since seen a few other characters with coloration very similar to his, but I'm going to stick his original design nonetheless.

My Cup Runneth Over
Posted 12 years agoBy some wonderful coincidence, I' recently received three wonderful stories within barely a week of eachother. Macro and vore lovers should definitely have a look at all of these:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11184514/
To Be With a Dragon: A wonderful gift from
SBW-Tusachi Tells the tale of a little raptor who gets to realize his dream of "studying" a dragon up close. Features lots of worship, macro, anal and cock vore, and even some tongue play; which may or may not be what you're thinking.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11212743/
Repurposed: Giant space dinosaurs! My second request from
MrExilo who never fails to deliver on the macro goodness. Features macro, "willing" vore of all kinds, crushing, feet, worship, mind control, and some watersports.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11154352/
Smaug's Decimation: Part of a trade with
Adam0800 Those who were disappointed in the minimal amount of dragon action in the first "Hobbit" film can now enjoy the many unknown exploits of Smaug in this foreboding tale. Features Macro, unwilling and "willing" cock and anal vore, crushing, feet, worship, and hyper spooge.
If you read and enjoy these stories, please do give the writers your faves and feedback!

My obligatory Pacific Rim review
Posted 12 years agoI was all set to wait another week to go see this thing, but apparently my theater doesnt care about release dates, so now I can complain about/review the movie. Since I have a major bias going in, I'll try and separate my thoughts into categories of a generic moviegoer, and then a true macrophile and lover of giant monsters...
As an average movie goer..
Meh...
Okay, so I should say that I have never watched a full anime movie in my life, I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy (this is not a science fiction movie), and I don't really care about giant robots. So, it was a long shot whether I was going to enjoy this.
The movie was flat out boring for about the first hour, the characters were so cliche, and the plot so predictable, watching it take its sweet time to unfold in exactly the way you expected 30 minutes earlier was pretty tedious. The movie could easily be a good 30-40 minutes shorter without really losing anything. The action scenes are almost worth the wait, the battles have a real sense of weight and punch to them, and there are a few lengthy ones in the film. A typical moviegoer would probably be pleased with the action, and feel satisfied overall.
Apparently this film has a not of nods to anime robot movies, which I am totally oblivious to, fans of anime may get more mileage.
Arbitrary number value 6/10
As a macrophile...
Booooooooo!!
I couldn't be more disappointed. This isnt a movie about giant monsters, its a movie about robots punching monsters repeatedly, sometimes in a miniature city, mostly in the water where all sense of scale is lost. The movie does not revel in its monsters, it does not give us any opportunities to relish their size, they are pretty much the giant monster equivalent of zombies, they exist to be punched, and stabbed, and ripped apart by robots, and we are supposed to enjoy their brutal deaths.
There might be 2 or 3 scenes in the film where monsters appear without a giant robot punching them in the face, even then, we aren't treated to any of the things a macrophile might want, stomping, munching, general abuse of tiny people at the hands(and feet) of something powerful. I was barely able to tell what any of them looked like, let alone get a chance to see the paws, or any other common points of interest. The most graphic and powerful view of a monster in the movie can already be seen in the trailer..., so there you go.
Dont think this is like a Godzilla film, or even a Cloverfield, those have some respect for their monsters, they are fearsome and powerful, and we see their power from the perspective of humanity. This is a movie about robots, the monsters are just punching bags.
Macrophile value 2/10

Mega Macro Dinosaurs!
Posted 12 years ago
SBW-Tusachi Has been making me crazy with his powerful depictions of mega dinosaurs, and all the vore and crushing a macro lover could ask for.Since kidnapping wasn't an option this time, I decided to just commission him for 2 more. Go read them, and show respect you your dinosaur overlords with your praise and faves!
