Useful art materials
Posted 2 years agoI have been asked to share art resources that I have found helpful. So here they are. The usefulness of these resources will depend on your goals and current art skills. All links are in no particular order. Hope you find something useful!
Devin Korwin. Really like his art. I recommend to check him if you want to learn more about painting. He covers abstract topics like composition and more practical ones like the physics of light. Start by checking out his tweets on colour: part 1, part 2 and part 3. He also made a video course: Advanced Basics: Video Tutorial and released 2 short books: Creative Fundamentals Vol. 1 and Creative Fundamentals Vol. 2.
Sinix. Sinix.
Moro. Check out his YouTube channel, if you are interested in digital painting. I think this video about improving values is my favourite.
Steven Zapata and his Secrets of Shading course.
Antony Jones (robotpencil). His videos have helped make my painting process faster and less stiff. There are lots of videos on his YouTube channel and Gumroad.
Steve Huston and his book Figure Drawing for Artists - Making Every Mark Count. I feel like everyone have own figure drawing course that clicks for them. This is what worked for me.
Kenzo and his Love Life Drawing project. His YouTube channel have a lot of good videos about figure drawing. After registering on his site you can find some high quality figure references that you can use for studies.
Proko. Really good in-depth Anatomy of the Human Body course. I recommend checking it out if you are comfortable with basic figure drawing and can work 3D forms.
Anatomy for Sculptors Understanding the Human Figure book. I think it's a nice anatomy reference for artists.
Mark's Drawing Tutorials YouTube channel. I think his old tutorials can be interesting for people with a "technical" type of mind. I can't agree with everything he says, but I found some of his thoughts interesting and I don't see many people talking about these ideas. For example, his video about The "Barrier Effect".
Krita's Manual. Besides Krita's specific stuff, you can find information about the technicalities of digital art, such as colour profiles and the difference between linear and gamma space.
