Hollow Knight Silksong: Steel Soul Challenge
General | Posted 3 weeks agoSo after playing this game several times I decided I wished to tackle the game's permadeath mode, that being Steel Soul.
I had attempted it 3 times, the first attempt being the furthest I got, and the next two attempts being less into the playthrough.
The fourth attempt however.
One thing worth mentioning is during this playthrough I was simultaneously playing through on a separate file with which I would practice certain challenges, enemy gauntlets and bosses. So when I went into the Steel Soul file that particular part would be fresh in my mind and I would be able to do it.
Now I did have several close calls through the game, but I chose to NOT simply save and quit to avoid dying. If I die that's it.
The first REALLY scary part came from the start of Act 3. If you know, you know. I practiced that part SEVERAL times on the normal file since having only 4 health and not Tools equipped for a small enemy gauntlet is terrifying. However thanks to the practice in the normal file I made it passed that point.
By this point in the run every boss was a bit of a choke point that could result in a game over. However thanks to the second file and practicing on it I was able to overcome everything and reach the final boss.
I had practiced the final boss 10 times on my normal file, and lost only 2 of that battles. So I nervously took on the final boss on my Steel Soul file and managed to beat it conquering Steel Soul without the use of the save and quit strategy.
Now obviously I can't prove that I did it, nor I am bringing this up to brag. But more so to talk about the emotions I got from beating this.
I have beaten many difficult things in many difficult games. Heck even in the original Hollow Knight I have beaten Steel Soul twice and that's without using a practice file and simply playing it straight through.
So I have experienced the "dopamine rush" from beating something difficult, and having one of those "pop off" moments of yelling "YES!" But what I experienced beating Silksong Steel Soul mode was different. I actually started getting emotional and felt like I could cry. Yes it's just a silly game, and I know that. But that feeling of overcoming something that if I failed would have meant another 17 hours to get back to that point was something else. So beating it felt amazing.
I'm sure at one point I will do a proper singular Steel Soul playthrough without a second file being played in tandem. But as far as I am concerned I am happy with my triumph over this game's permadeath mode.

A lapse in self control.

And for these past 2.5 years I have had no issues with this self imposed celibacy if you will.
Well yesterday I finally broke that. You may ask "what was it that broke you?" It was an animation I found on e621. Since I don't wish to link explicit porn in a public journal, if you do a search for the artist "funsizedfox" on e621 their latest animation aroused me in a way I have not felt in a LONG time.
To summarize the animation features two feminine male characters, a kobold and a shark like character. It features cock expansion and excessive cum. The best thing about the animation is it doesn't have a lot of the things I specifically don't like in animations and lewd art in general. And today the morning I typed up more on this silly astronomical story and didn't do much in terms of pleasuring myself. But this afternoon I just didn't care and finished the story, then soon after I, ahem, finished myself...
Now I am not ashamed of myself, not even disappointed. But there is that whole "post nut clarity" of well that happen. I am relieved that I finished the story so I have no more need to work on or think about it, so hopefully that is out of my system. So as said I am relieved that the story is done, but not fully happy with the contents there in.

Hollow Knight Silksong
General | Posted 2 months agoSince I have beaten Silksong, 100%, and I want to talk about it.
Before doing so however I want to talk about the original Hollow Knight. I love it and have played it 20 times. That is no joke, I have literally played it to either 107% or 112% completion 20 times. I tend to now end all of my playthroughs with the Pantheon of Hollownest. So suffice it to say I am a huge fan of this game and EAGERLY looked forward to the release of Silksong.
Interestingly the game did not release early enough so I had to wait until I got home from work to download it. That worked out in my favor since the Nintendo eShop, along most of the big game storefronts, were crashing due to the amount of downloads. Luckily when I could download it it happened without issue.
So playing the game I was rather taken aback the moment I encountered the first of many enemies that did 2 damage. I shrugged it off but as I saw more and more enemies, bosses and hazards doing two damage my thoughts changed. I didn't take it as the game being too hard, I took it more as "oh, so THAT'S how it is. Another thing that happened is I actually had gotten warning of the update patch that would nerf a few things. So I went into my Switch's options and disabled automatic software updates. Good thing too because the very next day the update patch went live on the Switch.
Now I do know that the patch nerfed only early game stuff, but since I was seeking a challenge I didn't want the game to be easier personally. So I played the game as is if you will. Despite this in my nearly 60 hour playthrough I NEVER hit anything that took any more than 30-60 minutes to beat. In Hollow Knight Nightmare King Grimm, Pure Vessel, Absolute Radiance and the Pantheon of Hollownest itself too either several hours or even DAYS to fully beat. But let me tell you, the feeling of accomplishment I got from beating the Pantheon of Hollownest AT LAUNCH before a few changes to some bosses was INCREDIBLE!
For Silksong, even if nothing ever reached that level of satisfying accomplishment I did still enjoy a lot of this game, even some of the widely known "bad parts" of the game, like Bilewater.
One interesting thing worth mentioning about my experience playing through the game. I mentioned how nothing took me more than an hour to beat. I did this without even using any of the Tools the game gives you. No Cog Flies, no poison, no boomerang, nothing. And despite that I still didn't feel like the game crossed a line in terms of difficulty. I don't mention this to brag, but to more say that with tools if may have been easier. Which in terms means that for other players that would have even more options to fight with than I did.
Now obviously there is a lot to be said about difficulty in video games, but personally I am on the side of no not every game needs an easy mode. Furthermore no not every game needs to be beatable by every single person. I do find it silly when people buy something like a Fromsoft game and complain about it being too hard. Fromsoft is known to make difficult games, it's a widely known thing. Wanting a game because everyone else is talking about it is silly and boils down to FOMO. (fear of missing out)
I didn't buy Silksong because everyone else was buying it, I bought it because I LOVE Hollow Knight. I wanted another game just like it. Even if it was half as good I would have wanted it. Before doing so however I want to talk about the original Hollow Knight. I love it and have played it 20 times. That is no joke, I have literally played it to either 107% or 112% completion 20 times. I tend to now end all of my playthroughs with the Pantheon of Hollownest. So suffice it to say I am a huge fan of this game and EAGERLY looked forward to the release of Silksong.
Interestingly the game did not release early enough so I had to wait until I got home from work to download it. That worked out in my favor since the Nintendo eShop, along most of the big game storefronts, were crashing due to the amount of downloads. Luckily when I could download it it happened without issue.
So playing the game I was rather taken aback the moment I encountered the first of many enemies that did 2 damage. I shrugged it off but as I saw more and more enemies, bosses and hazards doing two damage my thoughts changed. I didn't take it as the game being too hard, I took it more as "oh, so THAT'S how it is. General | Posted 2 months agoSo I have been playing and loving Silksong, it's also why I haven't posted art in a bit. I am currently sitting at 96% completion and have beaten the final boss. However I have scoured EVERY room in the game and I am at wits end as to where the missing stuff is located.
So why not just search Google or YouTube to find what I am missing?
Well the thing is I don't want it just spelled out to me. I kind of want hints and nudges to find what I am missing. Think like if you were watching a streamer and they say no backseating, but ask something like "Is what I am missing hidden in this general area" and you give a yes or no.
So if anyone has 100% Silksong or would just like to maybe chat about and help each other complete it that would be nice as well. I do have a Discord so through notes on FA I can give you my Discord and we can chat from there.

That said it is a neat thing to go into my stats and see what the most favorited images are as a curiosity more than anything.
Some of the most favorited images of mine are things that are expected. Either they are a character from a popular franchise, or the character themselves is popular.

A need for a life partner.

So I am 38 and single, and I do NOT wish to remain single for the rest of my life.
I will say this right off the bat, I do live with my parents and my current job is simply a dishwasher at a local restaurant. So no 6 figure income here.
So what am I looking for in a woman?
Well I am not really that picky, but I do have some main wants.
I like playing video games and would like if the woman enjoys video games as well. Now I am not the kind of gamer that plays ALL day, I usually just play for and hour or two and then stop and do something else. Sometimes more than once per day, but basically limited play time.
To me this is one of the more important things I am looking for. Watching someone play a game, or them watching me play a game, or even us taking turns playing the same game. I think this would likely bring me joy.
I also like doing jigsaw puzzles. Having done a jigsaw puzzle with my mother I realized how enjoyable it would be to do jigsaw puzzles with someone else. Kind of the same principle as laying videogames together, but this is even more so a together activity.
This isn't as necessary as video games, but something worth mentioning.
I do not smoke, I do not drink alcohol and I do not do drugs. I would strongly prefer if the woman did not do these things as well. This isn't something I see changing and suddenly start partaking in these things, so hopefully the woman would share this.
I am NOT wanting to marry for sex. I know that sounds silly, but I don't really see myself wanting to have sex a ton. Now we would have sex for the purpose of conceiving a child, but outside of that I am not requiring frequent sex.
I'm pretty introvert and not really one for traveling. That said as a couple I would not be against going on a vacation to places. Especially if marriage happened, a child or children happen, vacations with them would be nice. As a child my parents would take my sisters and me to Six Flags once every summer. This would be something fun to recreate with the child/children we have.
Now I know posting a journal won't magically make someone send me a note and we hit it off well. But I suppose a main reason to post this is to ask how I can find someone like this? I am introverted as previously mentioned. I have been to a few conventions so I am not against doing such things, but being 38 it's hard to find someone in my age bracket. 30-40 obviously is what I am looking for, but not being able to know how old someone is makes it especially awkward for me.
Also I have ZERO desire to use dating apps. I hear those don't really work anyway.
A thought is maybe Discord servers that are video game centric, but I am not sure about them. They might be too busy for my tastes as I prefer smaller servers.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas as to what can be done I would appreciate it.

Talking about Gundam models. (and mecha models)
General | Posted 4 months agoSo way back when Gundam Wind aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami I was interested in doing Gundam models of the various Gundams from the anime.
During this time I had also watched G Gundam and that is pretty much all of the Gundam animes I have watched.
Now that doesn't stop me from buying Gundam models of Gundams and mecha I am not familiar with. If I like the design of the mecha I will buy it and make the model. Sometimes it's just the joy of putting together the models for me.
Especially if I can find a model at Hobby Lobby where in they often times have all boxed models kits 40% so that is a good time to get a Gundam model they are selling if I find one that interests me.
In terms of scales I certainly prefer the 1/100 scale models, the ones that are around 7-9 inches tall. (18-22cm)
The 1/144 scale ones aren't bad, but they are more prone to needing stickers to make the colors correct, and the pieces are obviously smaller and more difficult to work with.
As for the Perfect Grade Gundams, the 1/60 scale ones, I have built one. The Wing Gundam Zero Endless Waltz version. I also have the RX-78-2 Perfect Grade Unleashed which I am excited to build.
But there is one other thing I would like to talk about in relation to this. Models I wish would exist. Now I am not being unreasonable with this. The models I want already exist, but it's a case of wanting a bigger and more detailed version of them.
First up the Nobell Gundam from G Gundam:

I own the second one and she looks nice. But I wish there was a 1/100 scale version of her. Wouldn't have to be a Master Grade, not a Ver. Ka., but just a nice simple 1/100 scale model with all the proper color separation. I would so love that as I do like the Nobell Gundam's design despite its simplicity.
Next up is Anubis from Zone of the Enders. This model is actually made by Kotobukiya:

This was not an enjoyable model to build. The plastic seemed very hard and brittle. And I had a few pieces not fit well and were prone to falling off with too much rattling.
But what I would love out of this would be something like a Perfect Grade model. Basically making it nearly a foot tall, inner frame, proper color separation and overall a better quality.
Lastly but FAR from least is Metal Gear Rex from Metal Gear Solid 1:

And even unpainted it STILL looks nice. It helps that Rex is my favorite giant robot in ANY work of fiction.
But like Anubis above I would LOVE to have a Perfect Grade styled model of this. I would even pay more if the model kit came painted or duel molded to have the proper camo pattern that the in game Rex has. This is something, that if it existed, I would pay quite a bit for. But I am happy I at least have the model of it that I do have. It's quite nice.
Anyway, just felt like talking about something that I like.

General | Posted 4 months agoSo I watch a few streamers on Twitch. Lately I have been having a couple of issues on Twitch so I was hoping to log out and then log back in in the hopes of fixing the issues.
However as I was trying to sign back in I got this message:

I am on Google Chrome so I know that it IS a supported browser.
If I were to guess the log in issue is likely on account of my Adblock and/or uBlock Origin Lite. Which I am NOT going to uninstall on Chrome.
Now I have been able to sign in on to Twitch on Firefox, however for whatever reason Firefox uses up more RAM than Chrome and that is not good for my aged computer. Which is also why I do no wish to use Firefox as a default browser.
So what is my anxiety here? Well I am guessing if I were to clear my browsing history on Chrome this COULD fix the issue and I could sign back in on Twitch, MAYBE.

Talking about a few things.
General | Posted 6 months agoFirst and foremost with Summer here my family has turned on our window mounted air conditioners. Same with all the previous years this means I am unable to close my door for privacy thus I am unable to draw too often.
Even if that wasn't a factor my drawing motivation has been lacking anyway. Luckily I have a wealth of scanned images I can do up for a quick post. As some have seen 2 images in a row with no proper inking.
I've also still been working off an on the game I wish to make. I found a programmer who is working at their own pace which is 100% fine. On my end I have been working on visual assets for the game. It's slow going but I am still managing to make things.
I guess to sum up that, the quality of my art being posted could be up in the air and I may or may not post something fully inked or even shaded.
Now for some dumb random asides that I don't wish to post a journal exclusively about.

Over a year and a half ago I actually did give up drinking sodas entirely and have been exclusively drinking water and milk. And in all honesty I don't miss drinking Coke. Sucked waiting for sales, and of course the high sugar amount.

The origin of my username.

People who have been around long enough may have seen a journal I posted a ways back where I talked about this, but ehh I feel like bringing it up again anyway.
So WAY back in early 2006 I was browsing various sites online looking for furry content. I happened upon Furaffinty and decided to create an account here.
Well at the time I was obsessed with these sliding puzzles called 15-puzzles:

So I decided to choose that as my username. I am uncertain what happened but I screwed up the signing up process, likely misspelled my e-mail and never received an activation e-mail.
Some time later I try again and needed a new account name. Going off of the previous naming scheme I decided to go with a step below a 15-puzzle and chose 9-puzzle as my username.
Here's the thing however. A 15-puzzle gets it name because it is a 4x4 square with one piece missing, making it a 15-puzzle. So a 3x3 version of that is... 9 squares with one missing piece... meaning that would be an 8-puzzle.

So my username came about because of not one but TWO mistakes I made when creating it.

Talking about jigsaw puzzles, and recommending good brands.

So I have enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles for a LONG time. But I wasn't quite as into them as I have been over the past few years.
Where it really started, I was browsing FA one day and came across this image:

Now I haven't personally watched Helluva Boss however I do like Angel Dust's design and I like the art on this puzzle.
So I found the site that sold it, Sharkrobot, and bought it.
After assembling this puzzle I got bit by the puzzle bug if you will and wanted to do more puzzles.
So I started looking in places like Dollar Tree, thrift stores and various other places for puzzles to do. I cannot begin to guess how many puzzles I have done since I really started doing a lot as of late.
Now one thing worth mentioning about jigsaw puzzles is how they vary not only in terms of quality but how the pieces are made.
The worst kind of puzzles will have all the same type of piece, 2 peg and 2 hole:

When puzzles are like that it becomes a chore if there is a solid section of color. The Hazbin Hotel puzzle above had those types of pieces and with several sections of solid blue it made finishing the puzzle annoying.
Some puzzles have different styled pieces. As an example circle or shaped puzzles can have wacky shaped pieces. But even a standard rectangle puzzle can have some very odd pieces.
The brands "Cobble Hill" and "Springbok" are two such brands.

Look around the pumpkins to see some of the odd pieces.

The pieces on the cat are especially wacky.
That said I do like doing Cobble Hill puzzles as they are of good quality over all. Springbok has fallen out of favor for me personally though.
But for what I consider my favorite type of pieces in regards to puzzles is a nice mix of all the peg and hole configurations:

2 pegs 2 holes right angled
2 pegs two holes opposite one another
1 peg 3 holes
0 pegs 4 holes
Some puzzle brands will still have a bad average of those 6 piece types and you may get an overwhelming amount of pieces that are the traditional 2 peg 2 hole style. Or in the case of a brand called "Ceaco" they have a bad habit of having too many 4 pegs 0 hole and 4 holes 0 pegs pieces. These I would argue are worse if you have a large block of solid color as there are now four different ways a singular piece can go.
However in all of my puzzle assembling I have come across 3 brands that if you too like puzzles I would recommend looking out for.
Buffalo
Ravensburger
Clementoni
You CANNOT go wrong with any of those puzzles. Buffalo puzzles are the easiest to find as they are sold in most stores that sell toys and games.
Ravensburger is a little less common, but they make a very good puzzle.
Clementoni is my personal favorite, unfortunately though they are the hardest to find. Only place I have seen them brand new are Barnes and Noble stores, and a puzzle store in a mall the next State over.
Celmentoni was the first brand that I did a 6,000 piece puzzle from. That puzzle was one of the best puzzles in terms of the quality of the product I have ever done. The image was well printed, the pieces fit together nice and tightly, it was 17 days of work that was very satisfying to finish~
Anyway, just felt like talking about puzzles. And maybe mention some good brands for those who may be interested.

My thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2.
General | Posted 8 months agoI know a lot of people have talked about this, and so too do I wish to talk about it.
HOWEVER, I am coming at it from a different angle.
Even if the console and games were the usual price I don't think I would be that interested. I have gotten a lot of use and gameplay out of my Switch, but the thing is is that it is more indie games than Nintendo exclusive games.
In fact a friend of mine asked me if I had a top 10 favorite games on the Switch. So I looked through my Switch game library and added every game I liked to a notepad. After compiling this list I then weeded it down to just 10 games. Lo and behold ALL TEN of the games were indie games, not even any 3rd party "AAA" games were amongst the list.
So this got me to thinking, IF I am to ever get a new computer, it may be better for me to get one that can also play the usual indie games I would want to play.
"But what about any exclusive Nintendo games that may come to the Switch 2?"
Here's the thing, I haven't been to fond of the direction Nintendo has been taking with a lot of their games. For as fun as Super Mario Odyssey was, I am still not THAT fond of it. As someone who likes to 100% games this game is NOT an enjoyable game to 100% for me, or even just get all 880 unique Moons.
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, I may be in the minority but I will be honest i that I do not like it. It lacks what I want out of an adventure game like that, I don't care for the massive open world style and prefer a smaller game world, the lack of proper dungeons is a MAJOR downside, and several other issues.
I know Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom exists, but for some reason I have no desire to play it. I am not fond of the core gameplay gimmick and if that sounds like a crap reason whatever. shrugs
When Super Mario Bros Wonder came out I felt no need to get it. My reason being is if I want to play a 2D side scroller I will just get an indie 2D side scroller. Which on that subject, Pizza Tower, I paid $20 for it, have played it more than 10 times, and I will BET I have gotten more enjoyment out of that game than I would have Super Mario Bros Wonder. In fact Pizza Tower has become my 6th favorite game of ALL games that I have played.
So because of all this, I don't exactly have the utmost faith in the next games in a respective Nintendo IP to be entertaining to me. Not when I could look around for an indie game which is a fraction of the price and may provide better entertainment to me.
So regardless of price, I know I will be skipping the Nintendo Switch 2. Or at least I will wait and see if anything of worth comes to it, but I am not sure what it would take.

General | Posted 8 months agoSo I am accepting that it may be in my best interest to delegate the programming of my game to someone with more knowledge/experience.
I have never programmed before and I am not very confident in being able to make something of the quality I am looking for. I may not be aiming for the best game ever, but I am wanting something that functions better than I am likely to make.
First and foremost this will NOT be a pornographic game. The characters will be wide hipped:

However nothing greater than that. The characters will not have Ophira's proportions, the males will not have the proportions of my hyper male art either.
The game will not be super violent, will likely not have blood, and IF any blood very minor.
There will not be much swearing if any, and if there IS any swearing it will just be damn and hell.
Basically I am aiming for an "E10+" or "T For Teen" level game here.
So onto the details.

The game will be a top down Legend of Zelda styled game, so that is the primary game type I am going for. Something similar to Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and Link Between worlds.
It will also have a 2D sprite style to it. I of course will be handling making all the sprites and visual assets for the game.
[General work load]
Some of this will go without saying but I will still mention these things so as to be thorough.
1: Logos
Obviously there will be the "studio" logo, the game engine logo and the publisher logo.
2: Title screen
It will likely just be a still image with the game's title "Tale of Syraidia" on it.
There will be no need to have any special thing that happens if you wait on the title screen.
There will be "New Game," "Load Game," "Options" and "Exit Game."
New Game I am thinking there won't be need for any more than 3-4 files.
3: Options
The obvious audio options. So music volume, sound effects volume and master volume.
Controller options are a must. Especially if the game gets finished, released, and maybe we could port it to consoles.
Other options:
Some side options I would like, but may or may not be required.
(A: I would like to have characters make a sound/tone for their dialogue. Not full voice acting, but something similar to the way Celeste handles it:

So if this does become part of the game giving the player the option to turn off the dialogue sound would be nice to have since some may not like it.
(B: I am considering a low health sound, tone, beep or whatever. Once more giving the option to turn off this low health sound would be desired if we do include such a feature.
(C: Ability to control dialogue speed. Either just speeding it up, or making it instant. This will effect the voice sounds spoken of in "A" above, so keep that in mind as well.
3: Starting a new game.
I do NOT want variable difficulties. I understand why people include them, but I would rather not have you spend more time programming a difficulty when I personally don't feel the need to include it. If the game is too easy oh well, if some people cannot beat it oh well.
Upon starting a new game a cutscene will play. Said cutscene will be still images and text talking about the events decades before the start of the game will appear. This will introduce how the world has changed in all that time, as well as introduce the antagonist whom we do not know is the antagonist yet. How the text appears on screen will be something we can discuss. Be it "getting typed out" all fade in and then fade out for each scene, or whatever.
4-A: Controlling the protagonist Valarie
Valarie will control much like Link in the aforementioned Legend of Zelda games.
At a minimum I require 8 directional movement. So down, left, right, up and the diagonals.
HOWEVER, if it is doable having omnidirectional would be highly desired. So if using a controller with a control stick whatever direction you are tilting the controller Valarie will move in that exact direction.
Examples of this type of movement include Ittle Dew 2 or Hyperlight Drifter.
One thing worth mentioning I will only be making sprites for left, right, up and down facing. So you won't need to stress having a unique sprite for several angles. I have a diagram for what I am thinking for what sprites would go where:

So all of the up facing sprites will be in the upper quadrant. So if the control stick is tilted between North-East and North-West the sprites used would be any of the up facing sprites. Same for the remaining quadrants.
Again I mentioned Hyperlight Drifter, and it has this same feature as well. In said game there are only up, left, right and down facing sprites despite having omnidirectional movement.
Something worth mentioning, I do wish to keep Valarie left handed. So for any sword swinging or item usage she will have a unique left and right facing sprite to keep her left handed. This is something I have a STRONG preference for keeping part of the character.
4-B: Combat
I want to keep things simple. You push the attack button and Valarie swings her sword. I do NOT want attack combos. I do NOT want a charge attack or spin attack. I ONLY want a simple single button attack that can be as fast as the player can push the button, or very fast depending upon how the programming goes. Once more like some of the aforementioned Legend of Zelda games.
4-C: Dodge rolling
I would like to have a dodge roll mechanic as part of the game.
If you have ever played "Ittle Dew 2" it is an indie Zelda like game with a dodge roll as well. In fact the main character in "Ittle Dew 2" controls EXACTLY how I wish Valarie to control. A single button attack with no combos, omnidirectional movement, and a dodge roll.
So if you wanted to know exactly how I would want Valarie to control, play Ittle Dew 2.
The dodgeroll will have invincibility frames tied to it. So this is something we will need to figure out how far the roll goes, will there be any way to control the roll once it starts, and how long the I-frames last for the roll.
5: Game progression and flow
The game will start in Valarie's house and upon exiting you will have the freedom to choose between 3 available dungeons/levels.
There will be an intended order of difficulty to the levels, however I would like to give the player the freedom to choose between any of these 3 levels.
Artificial roadblocks.
I know these are annoying however given that I wish to also tell a story roadblocks may be required.
Only once you beat the 3 available levels will you then gain access to the 4th dungeon.
The reason for the roadblocks will be to prevent the player from simply using the dungeon items gained from the first three levels and simply skip to the 4th level. I understand not many people would do this, but some people MIGHT do it so I will require roadblocks to prevent this.
After beating the 4th level you will then gain access to 3 more levels with the same intended order in terms of difficulty but they can be done in any order the player wants.
Upon beating these 3 levels you will then gain access to the final level which will also be roadblocked until the player has beaten those previously mentioned 3 levels.
6: The game world above ground, below ground, fast travel, pause menu and map.
For the game's overworld map it will be made up of a grid of screens. I am unsure on the final dimensions so these will just be examples. The game's map will be 5x5 screens, each screen being around 2,048x2,048 pixels.
I want an underground cave system that is fully interconnected. So once you have all of the dungeon items you can enter the underground, travel through the underground and exit in any of the cave exits. Basically the cave system will be the same 5x5 screens each being 2,048x2,048 pixels.
I know this is extra work, but I would like diagonal collision for the overworld and caves. I just don't want everything to be squared and right angles as it's not visually appealing to me. I will say I will limit diagonal surfaces to the overworld and caves. Inside dungeons and houses will all be right angles as those places will have other things to worry about in terms of designing and programming.
I would like an underground subway as a fast travel. So once you find a subway station it will be added as a fast travel location that can be selected when you access a subway terminal.
The pause screen will function like the aforementioned Legend of Zelda games, you pause and are able to equip whatever dungeon item you need for a given situation. I will be sure to design the game in a way to lessen how often you need to switch items to avoid annoyance.
You will also be able to look at the collection of upgrade items that will be spoken of in a moment.
In the pause menu I would like the ability to push the shoulder/trigger buttons (R1, R2, L1, L2) to scroll to the next screen.
One of the screens will be the item menu, one of the screens will be for options as well as saving and quitting the game, and the last screen will be for the map.
For the map itself I am considering having it work where once you enter a new screen, that screen will be entirely added to the map. This isn't a definite thing and can be discussed how the map could be handled.
Having map markers would be nice if possible, but not required.
7: Upgrades
A: Health
I am wanting to keep these simple as well. There will be the standard health upgrades gained from defeating the seven dungeons/levels. So with the health starting at 3 hearts those will give Valarie 10 hearts. To round out to 16 hearts some heart pieces for the remaining 6 hearts will be needed. I am undecided on the amount per heart the pieces should be, 24 isn't that much to have the typical 4 pieces per full heart, but again this can be discussed.
B: Defense upgrade
I am thinking either 1 or 2 defense upgrades. Basically you need to find 2 of a specific item, then take it to a shop to have your defense upgrades.
You get 1 defense upgrade and damage taken is reduced by 25-50%. You find a second one and damage taken is reduced by an extra 25-50%.
C: Attack upgrade
Like defense the same general principle as defense upgrades.
Find 2 items, take them to an upgrade shop, one upgrade doubles they sword attack strength, and one more upgrade doubles it again.
Or even as simple as you start out doing 1 damage, one upgrade you do 2 damage, the final upgrade you do 3 damage. This again can be discussed.
D: Dodge roll invicibility frame extender
Not sure if this is something I want or not, but I am tossing this here as something to consider.
8: Enemies and bosses
Obviously there will be bosses and enemies which I will need to design, figure out attacks, attack patterns and then obviously you will need to program these bosses and enemies.
In grand total there will be 8 bosses which does include the final boss in that number. As for enemies that is up in the air as to how many I will design. I do not know what a final count will be, but likely more than 10 and less than 50. I do want SOME variety after all.
9: Dialogue:
Aside from the aforementioned sounds for the dialogue, the way dialogue will be handled is like any Legend of Zelda game. You speak to an NPC or a boss and a text box will appear. I would like the text to be typed out along with their speaking sounds. The dialogue boxes I would like to have a face for each box. Again similar to how Celeste handled it in the above example. The faces will not be animated and will be still images, but there will be different faces for different dialogue boxes given the situation.
Also having the ability to skip dialogue would be nice. The story may matter to me, but I know not everyone will be interested. So even if I do want to keep the dialogue brief I do still want to give the player the option to skip it if they want to simply play the game. (This will be nice for subsequent playthroughs as well.)
10: Ending and Credits
For the ending I am wanting to have a short animated cutscene. It will be pixel based as well and the same resolution as the game. The entire ending may or may NOT be animated, but there is a specific event that I DO want to try and animate.
Credits go without explanation.

Like with programming I am not seeking perfection here.
I am not seeking full orchestra obviously, but I do NOT want to go entirely 8 bit.
I am fine with midi music as I am wanting something alluding to classical music maybe with some artificial music/instrument sounds with it. This will depend on the theme but that gives a general idea.
So a list of tracks I will need.
*Title screen music (This track could be remixed as an overworld theme.)
*Intro music (I am thinking this will also be the antagonists main them.)
*Valarie's theme/ Valarie's house music
*NPC house music
*Shop music
*Overworld music (Again can be a remix of the title screen music.)
*Mountain area music
*Underground cave music
*"Sad" version of Valarie's theme.
*8 unique dungeon music tracks (7 primary dungeons and the final dungeon)
*3 unique boss fight music tracks
(One track being for bosses fully loyal to the antagonist.)
(One track for those who are more so enslaved to the antagonist, so the antagonist's leitmotif could be present in the track.

*Final cutscene music
*Credits music
*Post credits/epilogue scene music
There may be need for more than these 13 tracks, but it shouldn't climb to 50 unique tracks. Again I want to keep things simple.
There will also be the need for sound effects. In the programmer section I mentioned that I want to have the characters have a sound effect tied to their speaking in dialogue boxes. This can be limited to the important characters in the game, but if we can have a default voice sound for certain character types that can cut down on some work. Male voice, female voice, male child voice, female child voice, and the like.
Obviously the main character Valarie, the enemies, and bosses will make sound effects for their attacks and all that. So like with programming it's just all the basic stuff you would expect in a game.
I am sure there is more in terms of programming and composing I am not thinking of, but that is the bulk of what is needed.
I am not aiming to have this done by the end of the year, certainly not. However I don't want this to take 10 years to make either.

A dumb journal about personal tastes in lewd art.
General | Posted 9 months agoSo to start with, a warning, there will be certain "adult" topics discussed in this journal. Nothing majorly explicit but just giving warning ahead of time.
So as I have drawn and looked up lewd art work I can tell my tastes have changed. Some tastes however are constant in regards to things I like and dislike.
[Hyper]
Obviously I enjoy hyper. Cocks, balls, bulges, muscles, breasts, butts and some various other large things in relation to the aforementioned parts being large.
Interestingly what I favor most is basic pinups without a lot going on. Just a solo character, big parts, possibly even clothed.
That said I have nothing against nudity. However I do not like vaginas or buttholes. Even a cameltoe for female characters is not appealing to me. And in regards to buttholes, ESPECIALLY the big donut kind, they are very unappealing to me.
[Cocks and balls]
In regards to the shape of the cock, simply put I have come to prefer the standard human like cock. It's basic yeah, but ehh it works for me.
One thing with cocks that I do not care for is foreskin. Be it a normal amount or excessive it simply is not appealing to me. I prefer when the cocktip/glans are fully visible and not covered by foreskin.
A recent trend that has been going around with several artists who draw males (and herms) is that flap of skin between the balls. Regardless of if the character is having an orgasm or not I do NOT find this appealing in any way whatsoever.
[Breasts]
Lactation is something that basically has to cross a line of becoming so extreme that is barely seems like lactation, like basically a fire hydrant like spray. The "sweating" milk look is simply not appealing nor is the gentle spray, gush or leak or any outside of the aforementioned hydrant like spray. But even still lactation isn't that appealing to me and I would prefer without.
I am not particularly fond of breasts that are too saggy. A little bit of natural sag is okay, but not too much. As for fake breasts, I don't really mind the perfectly spherical breasts so long as everything else about the image is appealing to me.

I don't have an aversion to characters having sex, but I have certain standards with it.
I do not like rape and definitely prefer consensual enjoyment between both characters. By saying both that also means that I prefer just two characters and not any more than that.
Facial expressions are a weird thing as I am not particularly fond of the "O-face" "ahegao face" or whatever you want to call it. Does that make it seem like the characters aren't REALLY into the sex then? Possibly so, but a facial expression does not need to be over the top to show pleasure.
One weird thing I don't like is the idea of public sex, because it comes with the caveat of lacking self control. This includes glory holes, don't like them.
Self control is a VERY weird thing with me. I am not particularly fond of characters who simply cannot control themselves. Be it in regards to having sex or leaking bodily fluids like cum and/or milk. For some strange reason I don't like pictures of say a male character who is constantly leaking precum/cum at any given time. This I think also goes back to a preference for simple pinup styled images.
In regards to animations related to characters having sex I cannot stand fast movements. I definitely prefer slow and more passionate movements.
[Macro]
Macro is a weird thing with me. I am not that fond of it, but if it fits the "pinup" style mentioned previously I am okay with it. After all you can browse my favorites and see that I DO have some macro images favorited here and there.
All that said I do not like destruction. Now I understand an artist like DNA-Palmhead does macro and destruction in a way that no characters in the comics/images are harmed and I appreciate that. Same for the user Togepi1125, he has a journal talking about the same kind of thing where destruction happens however there is no harm or death. Be that as it may macro simply isn't that appealing to me outside of some VERY specific instances.
[Strong dislikes.]
This brings me to one of my BIGGEST dislikes in terms of lewd art, harm and death.
Be it any of the following:
1: Macro character stomping all around a city and you see a visual depictions of crushed people on their feet.
2: Macro or astronomically hyper character penetrating a planet resulting in implied death and destruction.
3: Macro or astronomicall hyper character growing through the cosmos and the image has a visible death count on display.
4: Hard vore.
Vore is also something I have a strong dislike of. Now I will say I can differentiate between soft and hard vore. Soft vore I just don't like even if the character being consumed is 100% safe and unharmed. But hard vore is going back to death being caused which is a hard no to me.
An offshoot of this is gore. I DO have a gore image deep in my gallery, so too do I have some gore favorited. HOWEVER the images involving gore are not lewd and are more so done in a way where I can appreciate the artistry that went into it. I understand what I just said can be used against me, and one could say those other subject matters can have "artistry" to them as well. Be that as it may, even if it's well drawn, I do not like seeing a macro character lifting their foot and seeing blood splatters on their soles no matter how well it is done. There is a difference in what the two pieces are trying to convey.

Obviously talking about all this stuff does nothing aside from telling people about my preferences. It's not like I am saying for people to change their ways, it's just me wanting to speak my mind as this journal HAS been on my mind for a bit so I figured I would type it up.
So as I have drawn and looked up lewd art work I can tell my tastes have changed. Some tastes however are constant in regards to things I like and dislike.
[Hyper]
Obviously I enjoy hyper. Cocks, balls, bulges, muscles, breasts, butts and some various other large things in relation to the aforementioned parts being large.
Interestingly what I favor most is basic pinups without a lot going on. Just a solo character, big parts, possibly even clothed.
That said I have nothing against nudity. However I do not like vaginas or buttholes. Even a cameltoe for female characters is not appealing to me. And in regards to buttholes, ESPECIALLY the big donut kind, they are very unappealing to me.
[Cocks and balls]
In regards to the shape of the cock, simply put I have come to prefer the standard human like cock. It's basic yeah, but ehh it works for me.
One thing with cocks that I do not care for is foreskin. Be it a normal amount or excessive it simply is not appealing to me. I prefer when the cocktip/glans are fully visible and not covered by foreskin.
A recent trend that has been going around with several artists who draw males (and herms) is that flap of skin between the balls. Regardless of if the character is having an orgasm or not I do NOT find this appealing in any way whatsoever.
[Breasts]
Lactation is something that basically has to cross a line of becoming so extreme that is barely seems like lactation, like basically a fire hydrant like spray. The "sweating" milk look is simply not appealing nor is the gentle spray, gush or leak or any outside of the aforementioned hydrant like spray. But even still lactation isn't that appealing to me and I would prefer without.

Lack of art motivation.
General | Posted 10 months agoThis pops up every once in a while, and so too it has happened again.
Typically I would start a drawing session, sketch something out on scrap then it never gets fully drawn. But lately that has given way to simply not wanting to start drawing at all.
I usually pull out a card table, get my clipboard, pencils and paper and then start drawing. But lately I don't even want to pull out the card table.
Now I do still enjoy other activities, jigsaw puzzles, video games, watching crap on YouTube, and lately working on overworld assets for my game I hope to make.
On the subject of my game that is something that is still within the realm of being motivated to work on even if slowly. I think that is also part of all this in that any time I am working on art outside of the game stuff feels like a waste of time, even if it really isn't. I do kind of want to make some more animated gifs of characters I like, but the ample time spent animating something with sprites I could be making stuff for this game.
Obviously I know making a game WILL take a long LONG time. But it is somewhat of a life goal that I wish to accomplish. Which I doubt I will be able to do on my own, and at some point I will likely post a journal asking if anyone with programming knowledge would want to program this game I wish to make.
But this journal is more so about this intense lack of motivation to draw what I usually post on FA. I do consider myself lucky I have NEVER cared about the numbers. Yes I can visibly see what images get the most favorites, but that doesn't mean I want to go out of my way to draw only that. Some of MY most favorite images are not typically the most favorites images on FA. I have always made a point to draw what I want so the lack of motivation is likely something else.
I also don't think it's burn out as I don't draw a TON and usually draw twice a week, and make at least one image that is "post worthy" on FA weekly. This has seemed like a nice pace for a while.
I don't know exactly what it is though but I certainly just don't feel like drawing. There are things I do sort of kind of what to draw, but I just, don't do it...
Anyway, just wanted to toss that out there.
