Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series (Klonoa 1&2 remasters)
General | Posted 3 years agoSo recently a remaster of Klonoa 1 and 2 came out for multiple platforms. Since I own Klonoa 1 on the Wii and Klonoa 2 on the PS2 I technically had no reason to buy this collection. However I wished to send the message to Bandai/Namco that I want more Klonoa games so I bought this collection for that reason. At the end of the day I do like these games so I was happy to buy it at full price.
So if you've played either of these Klonoa games you are very likely going to enjoy the collection. It doesn't really come with any extra stuff that I can see, it's just both of the games. So if you like your collections to have lots of extra features, history of the games and all that, there is none of that here. It's literally both games just remastered.
Now I did enjoy playing through these games again, especially Klonoa 2 since I enjoy it a lot more, but both games have their fair share of issues I would like to discuss.
First and foremost I have the Switch version, so some of these issues COULD be exclusive to the Switch port, so be mindful of that.
Framerate. I am NOT a framerate snob, so I am not the type to demand 60FPS or nothing. I am unsure if I can tell the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS anyway. But what does bug me is when the framerate is choppy where in it looks like the occasional frame skips. Both Klonoa 1&2 seemed to have this issue. One spot in Klonoa 1 was ESPECIALLY bad as a bunch of enemies appear and the framerate tanked. For comparison I played the Wii version of Klonoa 1 on my Wii U, got to that same spot and it did not lag even a bit in that same spot.
Audio. The audio for this game seems weirdly low, as in I have my TV at a certain volume, and for this game I had to turn it up quite a bit to hear things well. But beyond that the audio mixing itself was all over the place. In Klonoa 1 the gameplay audio was higher than the audio during cutscenes, and the opposite happened in Klonoa 2. Furthermore in Klonoa 1 the audio mixing during cutscenes seemed off as the voice audio seemed too low compared to the background music. One might argue that the characters are speaking a made up gibberish language so this isn't important, but again this doesn't seem to be an issue on the original versions of these games, be they PS1, PS2 or Wii versions of the respective games.
Precision: This one could be entirely a subjective thing, but it felt like I had to be a lot more precise with hitting enemies with the wind bullet in this game. Having played Klonoa 1 on the Wii and Klonoa 2 on the PS2 I never felt like I had too much issue actually hitting enemies, but it seemed more frequent here in the remasters. I am unsure if the hitboxes were changed for this, or if it's just something else happening. But whatever the case is I seemed to have some issues at times.
Now obviously some of the issues mentioned could possibly be fixed through patches, but I just feel they are worth mentioning if you are on the fence about purchasing. Obviously only you can decide if this collection is worth it, for me I had no reservations on buying this collection. And despite the issues I mentioned above, I did still enjoy my experience replaying these games. I just would have enjoyed it more if these issues were not present in both games. =P
Anyway, I am just hopeful the collection sells well enough to make Bandai/Namco willing enough to make another Klonoa game. Maybe an entirely new Klonoa game could be free of any of the issues that are present in this collection.

My first experience beating a Dark Souls game.
General | Posted 3 years agoSo before I begin, my first real exposure to a Souls game was with Demon's Souls back on the PS3. I tried playing that game AGES ago and never beat it. I do remember beating both bosses of the first area and the first boss of the second area and that was all the progress I could make. Looking back I do wonder if the game had a level up system like Dark Souls that I was unaware of, was I fat rolling and I was unaware, and were they mechanics that I was unaware of. But in any case I was turned off of the Souls styled gameplay and never wished to play any of the subsequent games that came out.
Recently, since Dark Souls Remastered was ported to the Switch, I decided I wanted to challenge one of these games one more time just to see if I INDEED do not like the gameplay.
So my first two days playing Dark Souls I only managed to reach the Bell Gargoyles. I was unable to beat them as I didn't have good equipment and I didn't have the skill I suppose. So the beginning of the game slump was wearing me down to the point where I was almost ready to give up on the game and count it as a loss. But I decided instead to post a journal here on FA asking for a decent walkthrough of the game.
kohsakor was kind enough to mention a YouTube user by the name of FightingCowboy and watching the start of that walkthrough REALLY helped me progress.
What I gained from the walkthrough was the Claymore and Drake Sword, and those weapons helped me immensely. Now despite this file having 6 hours to reach and now defeat the Bell Gargoyles, I had started as a Wanderer I made the decision to start a new file as a Warrior as it sounded like the easier option according to FightingCowboy. Unfortunately that second playthrough I accidentally attacked Petrus of Thorolund and having him hostel around Firelink was not fun. No matter I heard about the guy that removes "sin" so I decided to continue this playthrough. I beat the Bell Gargoyles, rang the bell, went over to the Oswald of Cairm and accidentally attacked him. At this point I viewed this file as ruined so I then opted to start A THIRD FILE!!!
Luckily with both of these new playthroughs the experience was quicker and easier each time as I was becoming more familiar with the clunkiness. From this point forward I would typically only be using the walkthrough when I needed to know where to go, which was often yes. I wasn't particularly fond of the exploration in this game so anytime I needed guidance I would consult the walkthrough. (It is worth noting I was playing in Offline Mode since I do not have Nintendo Online.) Generally I made it through many areas on my own, however some good weapons I only discovered thanks to the walkthrough. One such sword was the Gravelord Curved Greatsword, which I would have NEVER found on my own. Same for a few other pieces of gear I typically wore, such as the "Ring of Favor and Protection" which is gained from killing that one NPC that appears in Firelink at one point. I would have NEVER done that on my own. The reason I mention these things is because I DID have an easier time with the game thanks to the walkthrough, so make of that as you will.
In my 40+ hour playthrough I did come to enjoy the game much more than I thought. As I said the start of the game was a miserable slump to me but once past that things started going much more smoothly. In fact I never really hit a major roadblock, in terms of difficulty, for the entire playthrough. Yes on my own the Bell Gargoyles were a roadblock, but after that nothing every really felt THAT hard. Yes Ornstein and Smough were pretty tough. My first session of fighting them I had Fire Claymore +5, Haval's Ring, the Ring of Favor and Protection, and much of the black iron armor set equipped. The first two hours were spent focusing on Smough since the Fire Claymore was going 150 damage to him where as it was going 90-100 to Ornstein. However I wasn't having much luck beating Orstein. I ended this play session and later that night I decided to switch focusing on Ornstein so I could fight Smough in the second phase. Within a few attempts I did reach phase two only to die. So I keep trying and got to phase two with a couple of Estus left. I use up my final one and go into focus mode against the electric hammer fatty, and once I dealt the final blow the satisfaction was amazing.
I had heard of those two even with not having really watched anyone play the full game. And I always figured a two on one battle was challenging. But reading some comments on some YouTube videos this boss is the skill check, they are THE roadblock in the game and knowing that it felt even better that I was able to defeat them. So from my perspective, if that's one of the hardest bosses this game has to offer, I have little to no fear of what was to come. And for the rest of the game no boss really challenged me like those two did. Granted of course I soon got the Gravelord Curved Greatsword which is a beast of a sword as you upgrade it, but it's still a slow weapon leaving me open to being punished by enemies and bosses.
One thing nice about the Remastered version was that the Artorias DLC was included with it. So obviously I wanted to tackle that area as well. I will say, that ENTIRE area was easily the BEST area in the entire game. All four bosses felt tough but fair, the few NPC's in the area were great, Hawkeye Gaugh being my favorite character in the game, the exploration was really good as some areas in the game were pretty miserable, so all in all this was the BEST Dark Souls had to offer to me. The Artorias fight REALLY stole the show, my first attempt at him and I was already like "Oh man I am going to LOVE fighting this guy" and I was 100% correct. He was such an amazing fight. Granted the Manus fight was no slouch either, it too was a pretty enjoyable fight despite it being just another big ole monster fight.
So in total I did enjoy my experience with a game I assumed I wouldn't like. That said the issues I had before going in to the game are still issues after beating it.
I still am not particularly fond of the exploration. I can get into it in a Metroidvania, or even a game where you aren't just running around at a slow speed. But with the pace of Dark Souls, and the vagueness of certain things, for my tastes I didn't enjoy the exploration and discovery.
The camera is just plain awful, like, man I think that one cost me a few deaths. =P
The collision detection of the environments were a nuisance. Like this small root sticking up out of the ground, yeah you can't walk over that. Oh this angled crystal in the Crystal Caves, yeah you can walk on it, but you may slip because the physics can be awful. And yes, I DID slip a few times. =U
Some of the areas are just kind of unfun. Blight Town with its bridge construction and easy bottomless pit deaths, the Catacombs with the respawning skeletons, the one area with the ghost that you need to use an item just to kill them, the Tomb of the Giants with its darkness gimmick and annoying enemies, the Crystal Caves... Not a fan of some of these areas. =U
And lastly the combat. Yes I did come to understand it after something like 5-10 hours of gamplay, but for personal preference I would much rather have a faster paced combat system. Yes it worked for the game, and obviously I did manage to beat every boss in the game, but I will take the combat systems of other games.
So in closing, did I enjoy Dark Souls? Yes, much more than I thought I would.
Is it one of the best games I have ever played? No not really, but I can understand why people like it.
Was it the Dark Souls of Dark Souls games? Now this, I feel as though the difficulty of this/these game(s) are blown out of proportion. Yes it has some hard moments, but I never felt like this game was TRULY hard. I have played some games that felt much harder than this. As said Ornstein and Smough were the hardest boss(es) but I have played some games on their hardest difficulty and had a much more difficult time. God of War 1, 2 and 3, Devil May Cry 1 and 3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma. These games had some sections that just destroyed me, so going into Dark Souls I was expecting the worst. But for this game having a combat system I did not favor I was still able to push through without too much difficulty. I didn't even ever summon anyone to help me during bosses, I went in pure solo. =P
But anyway, if Dark Souls 3 ever happens to come to the Switch I may give it a try, if Sekiro comes to the Switch I REALLY wanna play that. But in the mean time I can say I made my way through a Dark Souls game, and that is neat I guess.

Looking for a Dark Souls walkthrough.
General | Posted 3 years agoSo recently I got Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch. Since I am NOT enjoying this game I am seeking a decent walkthrough detailing a good "intended" route to get through the game. Since exploration and combat is not clicking with me I want a walkthrough to know what a good path through the game is to alleviate my unenjoyment of this game.
So if anyone knows of a good walkthrough on YouTube I would appreciate it. Commentary or no commentary is fine.

Looking for difficult games on the Nintendo Switch.
General | Posted 3 years agoSo I am rather wanting to have a challenging game on the Switch, so I am posting this journal in hopes of getting some suggestions.
First off some difficult games I own are:
Celeste
Super Meat Boy
The End is Nigh
Cuphead
Hollow Knight
Shovel Knight (though I don't find it hard, some do)
I am NOT a fan of rouge lites, so please do not suggest those. Same goes for difficult RPG's where you have to be very mindful of buffs, debuffs and the like.
Also, my only exposure to Fromsoft games is the original Demon's Souls on the PS3, and I didn't care for that game at all. I MIGHT consider Dark Souls on the Switch, but I am not 100% sure. I recall one MAJOR issue I had with the Demon's Souls was that weapons would degrade and become unusable, is this an issue in Dark Souls? Furthermore, if you are a fan of the Souls series how would you rate Dark Souls 1 as a game? Not in terms of difficulty but as a game to play through.
I'm just asking this stuff because watching the Souls games I am unsure if I would enjoy them, but since I have ONLY played Demon's Souls it may not be a good experience to what has come after it.
Anyway, if there are any suggestions on hard games, or if you would care to share some info on Dark Souls for the Switch that would be appreciated.

Your favorite fictional character based on visual design.
General | Posted 3 years agoThere are a TON of fictional characters out there, and obviously people will gravitate towards a character whose design they like.
So what is your favorite character based solely upon visual design? Can be a character from a movie, a comic, a cartoon, a video game, a book, a manga whatever. If YOU like this character a lot then that is the answer.
I am sure some may be able to guess mine, in fact I have had some people post pictures of this character in Discord servers and specifically @'ed me as they know I like her.
That character being Queen Sectonia from Kirby Triple Deluxe:

I like insects, and I like that sort of fancy dress look. These things appeal to me and from the moment I saw her in game I loved her design and she has stood as my favorite fictional character since I first played Kirby Triple Deluxe.
So how about you? What's your favorite fictional character?

Chicken restaurant mascot that needs art (lewds)
General | Posted 3 years agoSo a friend recently showed me this chicken mascot for a restaurant called "Chick-a-Boom." Her name is Chickira.

I NEED pictures of this character badly. There's only 1 on FA that I could find and 4 on e621.
As ever I am just sharing her in case she interests someone. Not expecting many takers, but hey, ya never know.

Kirby characters I would like to see pictures of.
General | Posted 3 years agoJust as the title says. I love the Kirby series and there are a BUNCH of enemies, boss or characters I would like to see some pictures of. Yes most likely lewd but you know. =U
Perhaps I could do an art-trade involving one of these as well.

As with every 1,000 milestone I appreciate everyone who enjoys my silly work. Been interesting since the last milestone as I have transferred over to doing inking and coloring in Paint.net and it has been working out very well for me.
Well, not much else to say aside from thank you to all of you who like what I produce. Here's to more weird art from a weird guy.

Video games and difficulty.
General | Posted 4 years agoThroughout my nearly 3 decades of playing video games I have played a number of games that most people can deem as difficult. Odds are good if you have played enough videos games you too have likely played one of these games. So I have a couple of questions in regards to game difficulty.
1: What is the most difficult thing you have accomplished in a video game?
I will explain what I mean by the question. I am not just talking about an entire game, but rather a singular moment, boss, or level in the game. So for example, the Dark Souls series is widely known as being difficult games, but even those game will have a boss that is considered to be the most difficult. So if you have defeated this boss THAT would count as your most difficult accomplishment.
Outside of Dark Souls you have precision platformers like Super Mat Boy or Celeste. Clearing a level in Super Meat Boy or chapter in Celeste can count as that moment as well.
Furthermore achievements/trophies can count towards this since those are developer intended and if you managed to get that achievement it counts for this. Things like "Beat the game deathless" or the like.
______________________________________________________
2: Are there any games you deem as too hard to beat?
I think this one doesn't need to be further explained.
______________________________________________________
So for question 1 I have a few moments that I consider to be the most difficult.
Hollow Knight: In this game there is a boss rush area. There are 4 small boss rushes with 10 bosses each, and then one final boss rush with 42 BOSSES IN A ROW! The first time I ever attempted this I could only get to around boss #28-#30 and would fail. I had given up deeming this to hard for me to want to try. But days later I was watching a Let's Play of Hollow Knight on YouTube and got the nagging voice in the back of my head that I should try it again. So I did and within two tries I had managed to make it to the final boss of the boss rush and promptly died. Luckily said boss was now added to the boss practice area so I was able to practice it and many days later I had manage to beat the boss rush.
Celeste: Chapter 9. This 6 hour long monstrosity was horrifying to me the first time. Since I wasn't a speedrunner I was unaware of the "Wavedash" technique, which Chapter 9 makes you start using, so my first playthrough of this chapter was especially nightmarish. Unlike the boss rush in Hollow Knight however I never felt the need to give up on it, only take a break from playing it since the chapter was so long. After roughly 2 hours I stopped the play session to come back some other time. But I did beat it and that first time was a grueling nightmare of intense difficulty.
The End is Nigh: I have played this game either 4 or five times, I cannot fully recall the amount. In every playthrough I collect every tumor, and clear every cartridge in the game. But in all of my playthroughs there was one cartridge that I had never cleared called either "The Tower of Acsension" or "Acceptance." To explain what this is there are four cartridges before it,
Denial which is 8 screens long,
Anger which is 7 screen long,
Bargaining which is 6 screens long,
and Depression which is 5 screens long.
To clear each of these cartridges you must clear every screen deathless. Well logical progression Acceptance is all four of these cartridges AND five new screens at the end which you cannot practice on their own. My first ever play through I had made it to room 30 of 31 and decided that this was no longer fun and too difficult for me to accomplish. On my latest playthrough however I decided to give it an honest effort to finally conquer this level once and for all. After 2-3 days of occasional tries I FINALLY managed to do it.
______________________________________________________
For the second question. My only exposure to the From Software Souls games is Demon's Souls. Yes I am aware that isn't a good game compared to the future games, but it's all I have played. I never beat it so I can deem it as being too hard for me. "Git gud." And I fully understand that notion. But my thing with the Souls series is there are so many core gameplay elements that I do not like, and this would be the same no matter what game these gameplay elements would be put into. I am more into games that are quicker and less slow and clunky intentionally. Furthermore I HATE games with stamina being used for even a singular thing let alone rolling, running AND attacking. It's just not something that appeals to me so I never had much drive to further play the game. If I want to struggle to defeat a hard game I need to ENJOY the core game, but I never really enjoyed playing any of Demon's Souls.
I will say if I had access to Sekiro it looks like it'd be a game that I would be more inclined to defeat. Since Sekiro doesn't have the one major thing I hate about the Souls series in it, that being the stamina system, it seems like a game I would be more willing to deal with the intense difficulty. But since I do not own a gaming PC nor do I own a console it is released on I have no ability to play it.
But yeah, I have no shame in admitting Demon's Souls is too hard for me. I have nothing to prove and I certainly don't want the game to change to suit my tastes. I have several other games I can play. =P
Also there are a number of old NES and SNES games I haven't beaten. But same thing the core gameplay may also be a factor. *shrugs*

Possible art block.
General | Posted 4 years agoSeems like this creeps up every once in a while but it has hit pretty badly lately.
My usual schedule for drawing is twice a week, typically Tuesday and Thursday. I used to do Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but even with two of my work days, Monday and Friday, being 1-2 hours I am still not really in a mood to draw on those days so I am limited to between Tuesday to Thursday.
Drawing up art-trades isn't an issue as I have direction as to what I am drawing and have no further questions mentally so I can push myself to draw this image. But when it comes to drawing stuff I want to draw it has been frequently not going beyond the rough sketch phase.
I have no shortage of characters I would want to draw, but when it comes to actually drawing them the mood suddenly crashes and I have no desire to go further than the rough sketch phase. Sometimes I just find myself sitting at my card table where I draw or at my computer trying to think of something I want to draw. Despite looking at my notepad list or images in my computer nothing really grasps me and makes me want to draw it.
The other odd thing is I think I am very in the moment. This image:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/45670843/
Someone recommended her to me, I was interested and I drew it up. But when I have something I want to draw it just doesn't happen. It sucks too because part of the reason I draw it because there are so many characters I want to see drawn in certain ways that most people don't draw in those ways. So rather than paying money for this I draw it myself with my limited abilities.
I am unsure what I can do to alleviate this issue as I do wish to continue to draw, but it is just so disheartening to have a drawing session amount to nothing.
Anyway, just a quick vent, I have no shortage of art to ink and color, but little new stuff has been happening lately...

Problem with two housecats suddenly fighting.
General | Posted 4 years agoI live with my parents and we have had 4 house cats for several years now. Two of our cats however started fighting suddenly and I am wondering if there is a solution to this.
The cats in question are Ferdinand and Evinrude.
A year or so ago for some reason Ferdinand began to start hissing at Evinrude whenever he came close to him. This lasted for a few weeks and then inexplicably stopped.
Well this event began again a month or two ago and has not stopped, rather it has escalated. It started out as Ferdinand would simply hiss and run away whenever he saw Evinrude within about 10 feet of him. But now Evinrude has, as a casual observer might deduce, taken this as a challenge and started rushing at Ferdinand which results in the two starting to fight. Nothing major as my parents and I break it up, and mostly it's the typical hissing, spitting, and rapid paw attacks until Ferdinand is able to run away and hide in a closet or under a bed.
We don't really know what to do, so if anyone knows of any solutions that would be very nice. The fighting between them isn't very serious, but it's still concerning since we obviously don't want them doing this. Plus at times it can make it to where Ferdinand stays in one room a lot more than usual.

35th birthday to me.
General | Posted 4 years agoJust another day to me, but I figured I would post a journal about it because why not.
But yeah, nothing special happened today, and even had to work. Sure was a "fun" day of work.
Anyway, for those of you who draw me things I do appreciate it, I always do. =3

Looking for "precision platformers" for the Nintendo Swit...
General | Posted 4 years agoOkay so what I mean by "precision platformers" are games similar to Super Meatboy, The End is Night, Celeste I Wanna be the Guy and the like.
This isn't exactly the easiest thing to search so that is why I am looking for some help finding some of these.
So if you know of any games like this on the Nintendo Switch eShop toss them at me.

Going to try and open commissions.
General | Posted 4 years agoOkay so I have debated this for a while and so this journal is to maybe announce that.
So first and foremost the payment method will be different from usual people. I do not like the idea of payment service sites like Paypal and others. So the only payment method I would be taking will be paid in terms of Nintendo eShop cards/games.
So to pay me for a commission you would either buy an eShop card and give me the code on the card, or you will get the download code of a Nintendo eShop game that is close to the price of the commission as a means of payment.
Now I am from the US so this MAY be limited to the US market. Keep that in mind if you are from another country so as to not create any issues with codes not being compatible with my US based Nintendo Switch.
If you are able to do drawing art-trades or story trades I ask that you opt to give someone else a chance who cannot provide art-trades of any sort. It's only fair.
You can either comment here in this journal if you are interested or send a note. I do have a Discord but I would rather not make that public, so I will only divulge that info in notes.
Now onto my rules and pricing.
_______________________________________________________________
1: Species do's and don't (not complete just basic) I am also more likely to draw certain animal species if it has a unique color palette as some natural colorations are boring to me. I am generally more into "colors of the rainbow" rather than greys and browns.
NO: Dogs, canines, foxes, wolves, horses, bears, monkeys, apes and most similar primates, horses and that includes MLP styled horses, pigs.
YES: Insects and arachnids, birds and general avians, dragons, lizards and general reptiles, some cats and felines, bats, sea creatures.
MAYBE: Raccoons, frogs, deer, giraffe, goats, humans, mice and rats.
Basically the best way to maximize me finding a character I am interested in drawing is give me multiple options. If you have only one particular character you want drawn and I don't like it a commission will likely not happen. So keep that in mind.
2: Please provide picture references of the following:
(1) A picture of the character you want drawn.
(2) A picture of the pose you want, unless you are okay with the basic posing I do.
(3) A picture(s) of the sizes you want since I obviously draw a massive range of sizes in regards to hyper. Saying "I want you to draw my character huge" is not going to help.
3: First come first serve. If I have discussed and finalized a commission with someone they will come first in who I do a commission for. I typically work at a pace of 1 picture a week, sometimes I may do 2, but since my main work days are Saturday and Sunday I do have time to work on images. But I usually just draw Tuesday and Thursday. Furthermore since I have to scan the images and the scanner is hooked up to my mother's computer I HAVE to wait for her to be out of the house to use it. So keep all of that in mind. At most I will likely take no more than 2-3 weeks to finish an image entirely.

I am not asking for payment upfront. I think that wouldn't sit well with me. So for a sketch I would draw the image and expect payment upon showing the image.
For flat color I think I would prefer payment before I start inking as that is a little more of a serious step with art and I would rather not get a "dine and dash" kind of situation here.
Same thing for inked and shaded. Even if it's hard shading I do still try to make sure things look decent and I do also add in highlights. Though my art is simple I do art least put effort into making it look decent.

I despise games as a service/game streaming.
General | Posted 4 years agoSo over the past few years several game companies have been trying this whole games as a service or game streaming model, where in basically a physical or download version of a game does not exist. Therefore you must either pay a subscription to that game or to the publisher of the game.
I do understand the logic from a business perspective, especially in regards to making physical versions of a game. But I cannot understand it when we live in an age with digital downloads. I am not sure what the cost is for a developer/publisher in regards to making a digital download available for a game.
Anyway, no matter the case I do NOT like this model as it causes some games to exist only temporarily. And yes, I do understand digital download games do share the same issue long term, but at least it has some tangible ownership over the product you purchased.
Even with Nintendo I do NOT like their Nintendo Online Expansion Pass, and as such I have not and WILL NOT buy that expansion to play their paltry amount of N64 games. This is especially considering that I still have a working N64 and have most of the games I'd want to play. Now if I could BUY these N64 games digitally on my Switch I would. I'd be willing to pay $20 to have Banjo Kazooie on the Switch. Yes, I know that sounds weird considering the price of the Online expansion is only $10 more than the previously mentioned price. However in this case I would own the game and could play it without any other steps involved. Tying these games to a service completely changes things from my point of view.
So anyway, I may not be part of a solution to stop the games as a service/game streaming model, but at least I am not part of the problem. Simply put I refuse to support this model and even if I prefer buying physical games I am more willing to accept buying digital games at an inflated price as opposed to supporting games as a service.

Metroid Dread: A surprisingly good game.
General | Posted 4 years agoSo I just got done playing this game and beat it, I also managed to collect 100% of the items which was nice.
So as I do I want to talk about what I like and don't like about the game.
Before I get into it I will say this is a GREAT game. This is the second Metroid game made by Mercury Stream, the first being Metroid Samus Returns on the 3DS. I didn't care for Metroid Samus Returns very much, even playing through a second time, so I went into Metroid Dread cautiously optimistic. The dev team seemed to fix any issues I had with Metroid Samus Returns so that is very good.
Samus feels good to control in this game, especially with the Gamecube controller I have for the Switch. The dev team gave Samus loads of new movement options which speeds up the gameplay. For instance she has what is basically a Mega Man slide, this allows you to get into a Morph Ball tunnel with great speed as opposed to the usual first going into Morph Ball method in all previous Metroid games.
Exploration in Metroid Dread feels good as well. Now for my tastes the game can feel a little too linear, almost like an illusion of exploration, but the game is big enough where this doesn't feel too restricting. To elaborate on this further this game drops a lot of "breadcrumbs" for you to follow. What I mean by this is when you get a new item the game has enough hints that usually I was able to figure out where to go next. There were only a couple moments where I felt lost only to realize a moment later that I recalled what to do next. So if you don't like getting lost easily this game does a fairly nice job of guiding you, at least in my opinion.
The combat is very good. It has the same 360 degree free aiming from Metroid Samus Returns which is nice. I had issues with the free aiming in this game, BUT it was ENTIRELY on me as the Gamecube controller I use has those octagon grooves for the left control stick. So I would unintentionally go to 45 degree angles, so this was a fault of the controller I was using.
Another thing which is nice about this game is you very rarely get long interruptions. If you have played Metroid Fusion you know how painful it is having to go into those navigation rooms. This game has nav rooms as well, however even without skipping the briefings are short, AND you can mash A to get through the dialogue in a couple of seconds. Furthermore since most bosses have prefight cutscenes the game allows you to skip said cutscenes, however these cutscenes are rarely that long. So thankfully this game doesn't take you out of the action for too long even when you don't skip anything like for a first playthrough.
Now for as much as I like this game there is mainly one thing I did not enjoy, and that was the E.M.M.I. sections. So in Metroid Fusion there were scripted areas where a possessed version of Samus' old power suit is around, it is called the SA-X. In these sections you CANNOT kill it and can only run from it. The SA-X does a TON of damage to you and until you get Ice Missiles to freeze it temporarily your only option is indeed to run. The EMMI's work in a different way in Metroid Dread. So in a given area of the map there is a section being patrolled by one of the game's EMMI's. If they spot you they will start giving chase and you have to run from them. Unlike the SA-X the EMMI's do not have any ranged attacks until the later ones, and in fact they don't have any primary attacks. Instead the way they function is if they catch you a cutscene plays and you are given a very short window of being able to counterattack and escape, the timing of this counterattack time seems to vary and if you miss the timing it's a game over. Now this isn't like an old game where you are sent back to your last save, instead the game does send you back to the last EMMI door. (An EMMI door being a door leading into an area patrolled by an EMMI.) So you are rarely set back very far but this mainly leads to the annoyance of the EMMI's being glorified deathpits.
What I would have preferred with the EMMI's is if they were more like the SA-X in Metroid Fusion. No one hit KO but rather just give them a melee attack starting out with, and this attack does a LOT of damage, say a full tank. This way the EMMI is threatening but not annoying just sending you back to the start of the EMMI area. Then as the game progressed give them a ranged attack which also does a LOT of damage and maybe boost the damage done by their melee attack.
Now obviously your thoughts on the EMMI may differ from mine, I was just giving my take on them and how I felt about them. The idea is neat but I just personally think the execution could have used some work or somewhat reworked mechanics.
So all in all this was a great game even with the issues I had here and there. Even going in knowing how I felt about Metroid Samus Returns I was surprised by just how much better this game was over all. So in closing I will say if you are a fan of Metroid games, Metroidvanias or exploration platformers I highly recommend this game.

Looking for poses for my character Ophira?
General | Posted 4 years agoSo I would like to at least TRY to experiment with different poses for Ophira:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42575223/
Why just Ophira? I like her.
Now I am not just seeking pure smutty poses, I am also seeking fighting poses as she is strong and does fight.
I am thinking more One Punch Man style fighting as opposed to Dragon Ball esque firing beams out of hands stuff. So just a strong character doing powerful stuff, like making shock waves from how powerful their punch is.
One thing I have thought up is that instead of doing this:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/41108386/
Ophira can concentrate her energy to say a single arm for fighting, something like Deku in the early episodes of My Hero Academia. So some punching (or kicking) poses would be nice.
Also Ophira is VERY flexible so any flexible poses, even impossibly flexible, would be nice. My headcanon for her is she does not have bones as she is more like made of a solidified gel like substance.
But yeah, some poses will be nice. Also a VISUAL representation of the pose would be more appreciated since it is hard for me to visualize a pose from text alone.

Anyone know of any good Nintendo eShop games?
General | Posted 4 years agoSo yeah, right now I have had a severe lack new games, aside from some shmups I have bought lately.
So what am I looking for?
I want some Legend of Zelda like games, some Metroidvanias, maybe some decent platformers and Mega Man styled games.
One important thing I DO NOT LIKE ROUGE LITES! So no need to mention them. I prefer crafted adventures over randomly generated ones.
I am not really seeking story focused, nor am I seeking pristine visuals, if the game is FUN that is what matters most to me.
So as for what I own, I am bringing these up to more so tell you what I have and thus you don't need to mention them. (*) denotes that I like the game.
*Kamiko
*Mighty Gunvolt Burst
VVVVVV
Blossom Tales
*The End is Nigh
Anodyne
Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
*Hollow Knight
*Timespinner
*Guacamelee 1&2
*Steamworld Dig 2
*Celeste
Elliot Quest
*Woodle Tree 2
*Toree 3D
*Ittle Dew 1&2
*Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.
Shantae Half Genie Hero
Cave Story
Also these are some games I have no interest in for one reason or another:
Axiom Verge 1&2: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
A Hat in Time: I'd love to play it but that file size is a deterrent...
Ori and the Blind Forest: I played the demo of the first game and could NOT get into it.
Gato Robo: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
The Messenger: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
All Blaster Master Zero games: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
La Mulana 1&2: No thanks, no thanks at all.
Iconoclast: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
Owlboy: I just don't have any interest.
Dust and Elysan Tail: I've watched a playthrough of the first game and it didn't appeal to me.
Games I am debating but know little of, but if you have any takes on them feel free to share:
Ori and the Will of the Wisps: I know it's a sequel but as said the demo of Ori 1 did NOTHING for me and I don't know if this game will fair better.
Blasphemous: Don't know much aside from "Souls" like but if it doesn't have ALL of what I hate about the Souls series I may be interested.
The Mummy Demastered
Minoria
Aggelos
Alwa's Awakening
Chasm
Touhou Lunar Nights
Two Parsecs from Earth
So yeah, if you know anything about the games mentioned above that'd be nice. Same for if you know of any games I didn't mentioned that are interesting.

Mushihimesama (Normal) Maniac 1CC! (Switch)
General | Posted 4 years agoSo before I get into talking about my run I wanna talk about a little history of me and this game. So WAY back in maybe 2007-2010 I discovered the freeware game called "I Wanna be the Guy." This got me on an "I wanna play a lot of hard games" kick and so I started looking up various hard games of the time on YouTube.
Things like Guitar Hero 3's Through the Fire and Flames were the rage at the time, obviously that was something that even on the 4 note difficulty was rough for me, so I never made it to the 5 note difficulty let alone Expert.
During this time I also discovered Liddell, the bouncy character in my FA icon:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXTMaBVPURw&ab_channel=pompedli
Now obviously during this time I also discovered Mushihimesama with this very video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP-mePr1-ZQ&ab_channel=GameSaru
Look at that crusty video quality, it really shows its age but to me it's still a classic because it was my first exposure to Mushihimesama.
I am not really the most experienced player with shmups and have only played a handful.
the demos for Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable Night.
A few freeware shmups.
Castle of Shikigami 2 & 3.
Ikaruga.
Sin and Punishment for the Wii.
Raiden 1 & 2
And maybe a few other stray ones.
But Mushihimesama was always one that I at least wanted to TRY even if I couldn't beat it. "Why didn't you just buy it?" you may ask? Well the original console version was Japan exclusive, I didn't have an X-Box 360 so I couldn't get that version. And I am weird about buying PC games. I simply have a preference for gaming on consoles personally.
Well a little before June 15th I was looking through my Switch's messages and came across the "what's new in the e-shop" message. In the corner of my eye I saw "Mushihimesama" and was floored by this. So I went out to get a $20 e-shop card and bought this game.
At first I was merely playing it for the novelty of being able to play this game I have known about for so long, but as time went on I kind of wanted to push a little more. So once I discovered that Maniac difficulty (the second of 3 difficulties) had slower bullets than Original difficulty (which is the easiest of the 3 difficulties) I opted to play more in Maniac. Granted there are more bullets in Maniac but I was more able to more able to mentally process what was being thrown at me. So then I started using practice mode to get used to stages, as well as look up many Maniac playthroughs to figure out better pathing through levels.
For those who care here is a video of the difficulty I was going through:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkjTDVYmbsY&ab_channel=CAVEPCB
I hit a skill wall for a while until I realized you could push A while selecting the stage in practice mode to start at mid-bosses or bosses. Before discovering this the only way I THOUGHT I could practice bosses was going through THE ENTIRE STAGE. Foolish I know but I think watching some videos talking about Mushihimesama I might misheard something being said about practice mode. So that's all on me.
So then I practiced bosses, figured out my trouble spots and where I want/need to use bombs and then proceeded to grind out 1CC runs. I had managed to reach the final stage several times but I would get there with a low amount of lives, or if I DID reach there with 2-4 lives I would lose them all in rapid succession.
But yesterday I managed to get through stages 1, 2 and 3 all No Miss (deathless) and stage 4 I only died once. Granted I have been to stage 5 with 4 lives before so I knew this wasn't a sure thing. I reached the midboss deathless and unfortunately the midboss killed me but it was a blessing in disguise as you get 3 bombs upon death, so I could use those in the scary second half of the stage. And I did just that, I had 3 key locations in mind and I used my 3 bombs in those locations and managed to get through the second half of the stage deathless.
So I go into the final boss with 3 lives and 1 bomb. In practice mode you have 2 lives and I give myself 1 bomb as I preferred to practice with the worst case scenario. So I manage to get through the boss' first several patterns as they are easy to also manipulate to make the worst of it go mostly off screen, then I get to one of the patterns I can easily die on so I opt to use my one bomb at this point and just hoped that did enough damage to him so I could shoot through the final 1st phase pattern before the bullets become too dense, and luckily I did. So 2nd phase no bombs but 3 lives. At this point there is little chance of failure since if I die I can spam kill him with bombs, but I had been practicing this phase without bombs so I put in the effort to dodge the upcoming patterns.
Be it skill or dumb luck I managed to dodge the next 2 patterns and so too did I dodge the 3rd pattern. Now the 4th pattern is something I RARELY see for very long as in all my practice runs I either have enough bombs to spam kill him, mostly out of safety, or I have done enough damage with bombs before hand that I kill him before things become too chaotic. However I just focused and actually lasted through several seconds of this final pattern through very likely dumb luck and before I knew it the boss died! I managed the final boss No Miss and with only 1 bomb!
Thanks to this when the stage clear screen comes up it gives you an extra 10 million points for every lie you have remaining giving me a massive 30 million more points on top of the 74 million points I earned through the game. So my final score was 104,264,259!
Now obviously better players can get higher scores, so too can better players achieve a 1CC No Miss with far less bomb usage than me. But this was a personal achievement and I am VERY proud of what I managed to accomplish. =3 It feels incredible to not only be able to play this game I have wanted to play for maybe more than a decade, but to also 1CC the 2nd difficulty in the game.
With all that said if you have even a remote enjoyment of these kinds of games I HIGHLY recommend Mushihimesama. Furthermore the Switch port functions VERY well and I have only experienced a couple crashes, but ANY game can crash so yeah. =P It is $20 on the e-shop and worth every penny in my opinion. Furthermore it has a novice mode which makes all 3 selectable difficulties easier, so if you want to go into this a little slower then that is an option. I just wanted to go all out into Maniac personally.
The largest jigsaw puzzle I have done 3.

6,000 piece: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9875788/
So a ways back I managed to find and order this monstrosity:

First and most important thing. Puzzles of this size are packaged in separate bags, so in reality it is more like four 4,500 pieces puzzles which is how I did it.
I started on June 13th and finished this on Aug 29th. I spent 44 days to complete the entire thing. I cannot really recall the hours per day, but even if it was 8 hours a day on average, this was 352 hours spent on this one puzzle!
The border is 152x120 pieces, so there are 540 edge pieces alone! And entire small puzzle's worth of JUST edge pieces!
Grand total amount of pieces 18,240!
Measurements: 6ft 4in x 9ft 2in (1.93m x 2.79m)
Full disclosure, I did "cheat" with this puzzle. How do you cheat? Well there is NO cutting press in the world big enough to cut a 6ft x 9ft puzzle. So how they do it is cut the puzzle in 16 separate parts:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....ut_Pattern.png
So all of "Cut Type A" has the EXACT same cut. So if you start in the top left of a section, go right 12 pieces, down 7 you will find a 3 pegged piece. In that exact same spot on all 4 of "Cut Type A" segments it will have that exact same piece type. So I would then look through my box of 3 pegged pieces thus cutting down the piece hunting immensely.
Now "Cut Type A2" is a little weird. It has MOSTLY the same piece configuration, but there are minor differences but it can still be used as a guide. So I used this to my advantage to finish certain sections easier. Like all that water, all that sky and general massive sections of the same thing.
But still I did manage to finish it all on my own and I am proud of my accomplishment. =3

My character Ophira's species.
General | Posted 4 years agoSo a little ways back I posted this journal:
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9930929/
Ophira:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42575223/
So I have come to a decision with all of this, and I will not be changing Ophira's design. Instead I brainstormed along with
westernsky And the decision made is to make Ophira a new species. Between WesternSky and I we came up with what Ophira's species is, an Umbrex.
Here is some information WesternSky and I compiled together to describe the basics of an Umbrex:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....vvQC3WcZ4/edit
So from here on Ophira will be called an Umbrex. I am unsure if I will be including "Hollow Knight" in the keywords for her anymore. It IS obvious she is inspired by Vessels, but I am not all like "I wanna distance myself from her being even remotely connected to Hollow Knight," it's more so if it's appropriate to continue to use that keyword if I am making her a unique species.
One other thing, if you wanna create your own Umbrex feel free to. I'm not going to hold the species hostage so they are free to use. I will ask that you credit WesternSky and I for the species as we both did put a fair amount of thought into this.

100,000 Favorites on my art.
General | Posted 4 years agoSo today I managed to hit 100,000 favorites:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....rites_100K.png
Not really anything super special to me, and I don't really view that number as something I strive to achieve. I just found it neat to have hit that.
Now if you break it down to average, 100,000 favorites divided by 1,903 it's 52 favorites per image which isn't that impressive but I don't mind. I mean I have 23 images that manage to break the 200 faves mark, so I must be doing SOMETHING right.
I can't thank you all enough for enjoying my silly art. I just draw the things I like and try not to force myself into any trends. If I like something, I draw it, if I like a character, I draw it. I just have fun with that all of this.
The main thing with my art is drawing things others may not draw. I find joy in drawing odd stuff that not everyone would consider. =P
So yeah, even if I am not improving much anymore I am still enjoying making art even for as simple as it is.

Does anyone know any good shmup games on the Switch?
General | Posted 4 years agoBy shmup I mean games like Gradius, R-Type, Ikaruga, Raiden, Touhou, Mushihimesama and etc..
I recently got Mushihimesama which was ported to the Switch, much to my surprise considering how long I have wanted to play it. And even if I am not that good at it it's still fun. Haha, I can't even make it past stage 3 (out of the 5 stages total) without using a continue yet, and that's on the easiest difficulty. =P
That being said these games are still fun.
Now I do prefer the smaller hitbox styled ones, as in your hitbox is NOT the entire ship/character.
Furthermore I prefer when the only things that can kill you are the enemies and their bullets. Environment dodging is not fun on top of dodging all the bullets. =U
So if anyone knows any good shmups please tell me about them. =3 They don't need to be as hard as Cave's shmups like Mushihimesma. =P

Questions about the design of my character Ophira.
General | Posted 4 years agoOkay so a little preface to all this.
I have a slew of original characters (OC's) in my gallery. Some that are actually original, as in not directly based on a specific existing character. And of course I have many OC's based on specific things, be they Pokemon, Mario enemies, Legend of Zelda enemies or a variety of other creatures and things from videos, cartoons or whatever.
My dumb little issue is I am not particularly fond of having so many OC's based on things from other sources, games, cartoons and etc.. I like having actually "ORIGINAL" characters as I can say "yeah that is a character of my design and I like it.
So with all that said some of you may be aware of my OC Ophira:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42575223/
She is obviously a Vessel from Hollow Knight. My issue here is that, she is yet another character based on a thing from a video game and not really original.
Now obviously the way I designed her she's not really much of a Vessel aside from the skull/helmet since she has the standard hourglass figure I design a lot of my characters with, and even the footless legs are a design feature I use in several of my OC's as I like that.
So I guess the ultimate question here is, IF I were to alter her design would there be anything you could think of that could make her less of a Vessel and something more original? Now obviously I don't want to scrap her entirely as I like her too much. I guess it's just that tiny little thought in the back of my head that she isn't entirely original, at least in the sense that she is mostly based on Vessels from Hollow Knight.
So any ideas would be nice, though I am not entirely sure I will change her, I am just curious is all. And I know it's not that much of a deal since MANY people have nothing but unoriginal characters and there is no shame in that. I guess I just care a little more about Ophira that I want something more with her. I dunno, I'm weird.
