oh dear
General | Posted 9 years agoI might be acting a little paranoid but
here's a question; if I were to take my characters and put them in an ACTUAL SHOW one day
like
In the future I plan to reboot my Shadowbound characters (including Astrid) Idk if it'll be a kid's show or for teens/adults like something like Futurama/Rick and Morty but I think my characters would appeal more to an all-audiences type of thing like Steven Universe or Gravity Falls or something
uh
is my NSFW art going to hinder that?
Because if that's the case I maaaaay have to take it all down (': and forget it ever existed

i really need advice... [EDIT]
General | Posted 9 years agoUnfortunately I've decided to erase the original journal just to keep Nick Cage and Stevie Wonder's identities hidden. Long story short, I've been having an issue with two friends of mine who are "really close" with one another but have a horribly emotionally-abusive relationship, with Stevie Wonder being the victim, and I was frustrated and unsure of how to handle this from the sidelines. Thank you everybody for the advice, it was all very helpful and I really appreciate the input!
How much can you actually 'protect' your characters?
General | Posted 10 years agoSo the other day, a friend of mine over on deviantART came to tell me that this younger artist was ripping off my art.
Looking through her gallery, a LOT of things were copied off from me. Her icon is exactly the same as mine, and her two dragon characters are basically recolored Astrids.
I sort of wanted to leave her be at first, but everyone was insisting that I note her and ask her to change her characters a bit. This was--two days ago I think? And I'm still waiting on a response.
This whole thing has me thinking--is hunting out "art thefts" really...worth it?
Let me rephrase that.
Copycats.
Art thefts are people who straight up steal, trace or edit your work and claim it as theirs, and some people even go as far as to profit off of it. THIS is not okay.
But some kid on the internet is inspired by your art and makes characters and other things that are completely copied off of yours. Is this really....bad?
In some cases, I suppose I could see why. The internet is treated like a competition to have the most views, the most likes, the most followers, etc. Having other people copy what's an original idea of yours can hinder that. And above all, at times it can feel downright degrading.
But on the other hand, is there REALLY a point in stopping this? This even happens to major companies who hold COPYRIGHT on their work. There are hundreds of Disney knock-offs, bootlegs, and the like that are sad attempts at being the original but regardless, they are created anyway. Although a lot of these knock-offs get sued, that doesn't stop them from coming back.
And with fan-made OC's and online characters that younger people make, they aren't necessarily profiting off of them (well--most of the time). It's really easy to spot knock-offs of characters from other people, especially when that artist is growing in popularity and appeals to a certain fandom/age group. And there are LOADS of small children on dA--as little as 10 years old--that simply don't know any better. So my question is--is it really worth stressing over?
Well in conclusion, if it wasn't obvious by the start of this journal...I feel really bad about noting that younger artist. I really didn't want to, but my friends wanted me to "stand up for myself" and not let her step all over me like that. But is it really 'stepping all over me'? No, it's not. She's inspired by my work and I should have been more sympathetic of that. I have characters that are clearly based off of some that belong to my idols, and although they're not blatant rip-offs, you can't expect a 12 year old to know that.
I don't know....I am still waiting for her to reply (which has been eating away at my nerves like crazy), but if she refuses to change her characters, or simply doesn't reply at all, I am not going to make her. And if this happens again, I won't step in. It's the internet and some things are simply out of my control. If anything, I am very happy that I've influenced younger artists. It IS a bit annoying to see your stuff being copied like that, but there is absolutely NO ill-intent behind it.
What do you think of this? I could be completely wrong; I want to hear your opinions.

FIXED THE COMIC (please read)
General | Posted 10 years agoHi everyone! For those of you reading Don't Starve: Maxwell's Pet, I had a bit of help and was able to fix all the pages so that they're FULL SIZED and no longer small and pixelated. I will admit that was sort of discouraging at first but thank you for the help!
Pages will continue to be posted. There are 20 pages in total and not all are drawn yet so the updates from today are not all that's left! Pages will be small and pixelated if you happen to catch them the minute they're posted, but I'm trying to be quick and re-submit them so that they're full sized and easy to read.
Any questions you have feel free to ask! Thank you for the support so far and I hope you enjoy the whole thing!

COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN!
General | Posted 10 years agoTHE RETURN OF THIS JOURNAL IS UPON US!
I have updated my commission info, which you can find here: http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/a7xsparx/
My Terms of Service are here: http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/a7xsparx/ (the prices on that are a tad bit different but still apply, regardless. It all depends on complexity as they are BASE prices.)
Please know that you do not have to comment this journal if you are apologizing for not having any cash. No need! I understand and I'm not going to get mad just because you can't afford anything. I only need to keep track of commenters who are interested and got the dough. :D
Once you DO comment and are approved, note me and be specific about your order. Anything you do not specify, I will fill in myself. (Ex. if you ask for a $40 commission with a background and everything, but do not specify the background you want, I'll just make it up. I have no problem in doing so and I'll try to make a good one that fits the character. But if you ARE looking for something specific, write it!)

General | Posted 10 years agoI'm going to make this quick because I already spent 20 minutes trying to give somebody "advice" on dA that they not only completely disregarded, but even SAID they didn't read a word of it.
I'm really tired of people saying stuff like "how come popular artists never reply to people" and "how come popular artists are only friends with the other popular people".
I think the reason popular people don't want to talk to anyone is because they've TRIED talking to people and it's just screwed them over every time. You don't think some of your favorite artists who SEEM like nice people really ARE nice people? Of COURSE they're nice people! They read all of your messages and they're always thankful for your compliments. They don't have to reply with "thank you". I know it's frustrating, but some people get so crammed up with messages they absolutely CAN'T reply.
But then there are people who get much too clingy, and say that you're their favorite artist, and yet all they're doing is using you for attention. They draw YOUR characters and say that it's for you when in reality that just want you to add them to your watch so they can get attention because you got them on your "Following" list. Well, let me be frank about something.
If you really love someone for their art, why do you care if THEY follow you or not? If you want to be their friend, BE THEIR FRIEND! Don't be a weird clingy asswipe who draws them gift art JUST for their attention. And if you don't think I know what I'm talking about...I do.
There is an artist on dA that I really....adore. I love her style, her characters, and she's just overall a really nice person. I WISH she would notice me. Does she talk to me? Not really. Does she watch me? Nope. But you wanna know something? I'm not the only person who loves her. There are hundreds of people who love and admire her, and I'm sure a LOT of them are nice, friendly people who she talks to as well. But a popular artist does NOT have to watch you and a popular artist DOES NOT have to reply to every damn thing you type. Hell, I'm just happy to SEE her art at all! The main thing I derive from her is inspiration. (and if you want to know who I'm talking about, just note me, I'm sure we can agree that she's pretty awesome :D)
Basically...I'm getting to that point (on dA) where I'm getting some younger people who are really inspired by my art. And while some of them are REALLY nice, some of them are beginning to get passive aggressive with me all because "I'm not watching them". Watching people is not hard to do at all, but THIS is the reason why it's a problem: why are you going to ALLOW someone to call you out and say "hey why aren't you watching me?" Am I INCLINED to watch you just because you're nice to me? Nope. I watch people because I WANT to; good artist or bad artist, I will watch someone if I consider them a friend. I DO NOT watch people just because they ask me. And quite honestly, getting passive aggressive with your favorite artist is not only going to make YOU feel bad; it makes THEM feel bad too.
All in all....I just...I really wish I could be everyone's friend, but how are you supposed to be everyone's friend if they're the ones shaming you into doing so? I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be friends with someone who doesn't mean their friendship back. And no, not all young people do this, if anything I'm very thankful to have the audience I do on dA, it's just...really hard to get across my feelings for some people, and then to have them IGNORE it?? What's the point in being all giddy over your favorite artist if you're just going to IGNORE them? Just...wow.

NSFW art - ANY SUGGESTIONS?
General | Posted 10 years agohuh you know I've kind of been contemplating posting some NSFW art on here.
I AM AN ADOOLT AFTER ALL
Plus, people have asked if I draw that stuff and I'd be lying if I said no 8D
BUT I DON'T THINK THE INTERNET NEEDS ANYMORE PORN THAN WHAT IT ALREADY HAS >B(
plus I don't draw it thaaat much, only on a few occasions when I have an OTP I really like. Aside from that, m e h.
I said I would draw this kind of stuff in my old Skylanders comic but that comic has looooong been dead. (and the story got changed so nope, wouldn't have happened anyway xD) But I don't know, for the most part I would prefer having a more general audience and I would feel terrible if I scarred some younger people for life with weird stuff, especially if they find it by accident. :/
...BUT THEN AGAIN
SCARRING PEOPLE FOR LIFE IS FUN =D
idk... what do you guys think? For now the answer is "NOH" but I may change my mind after some hardcore persuasion.
and yes there will be game character smut if the answer is "YEA"

General | Posted 11 years agoI....sorta forgot I had an apartment here....SUP HOMIES.
I'm not sure if I should make a new account or stay on this one, but either way I've got a buttload of art I need to post that's been pent up for about a year, so...consider yourselves screwed.

HAPPY FORTH OF JULY! CUZ MINE SUCKS SO FAR.
General | Posted 12 years agoSo other than the fact that my dad completely burnt our dinner to such a unique sidewalk-flavored crisp that it wasn't edible and we basically ate NOTHING all evening, I now just had to delete my entire comic form FA because it wa sin the wrong submission file and the damn thing wasn't letting me change it. -_-
...Do I even bother to repost it at this point? This website gives me problems like, every day.
....*scrapes a smile across face*....8)

Skylander fans...I HAVE A QUESTION!
General | Posted 12 years agoI recently started a brand-new Skylanders COMIC on deviantART but I haven't started posting it on FA yet, since I was only going to post certain scenes here (ya know, the parts that CAN'T go on dA since there will be mature content later on) XDD
BUT, should I start posting the whole comic on FA anyway or just those parts when the time comes? I kinda wanted to keep it on dA since its copyright system and protection is better (that I know of anyway) but I'd feel bad for having people on here miss out XD
Tell me what you think!

I apologize for my inactivity here. There aren't as many people here, so I've been more on dA. But now, I won't back down!
