Thinking about a kilt
Posted 8 years agoBeen thinking about adding a kilt to my collection of outfits I can wear in suit. Bit stuck on what tartan pattern and where I should order from. I've had a few people suggest the Black Watch tartan. Figured I'd see if anyone had any other suggestions.

FC bound
Posted 10 years agoWell, its that time of year again. FC's around the corner and I'm getting my last minute stuff done. Room's all set, reservations and flight are confirmed. Definitely looking forward to the con and hanging out with people I haven't seen in over a year :) Gonna be in and out of suit throughout the con, so be on the look out for an arctic unicorn wandering around :)
hospital volunteering in suit
Posted 11 years agoBeen thinking of trying to volunteer at one or more of the local hospitals. I've already started looking into who the proper people are to contact to set this up and browsing the hospital websites to see what I can find out, but there's not much out there that I've found. I'm hoping that this'll turn into a good thing, maybe even get some other local furs involved. We'll see.
accessory question
Posted 11 years agoSo, I'm thinking about getting some accessories for my fursuit. The first thing I'm thinking about is a cloak. I'm a bit stuck on color, but leaning towards shades of gray with maybe some white highlights. I was also thinking of a few, small pieces of armor, but I'm not sure what would look good. The general concept for being an arctic unicorn is being a kind of ranger. I've got some things I'm going to try for more ice/arctic style arrows, bow, and possibly secondary weapon. Figured I"d ask and see what others think would look good. Or am I going a bit too far on these ideas and is the look good as I have it currently?
Three Baron's fair report :)
Posted 11 years agoHome from the last day at the local renfair here in Alaska. I posted a bunch of pictures at:
https://www.facebook.com/Aayrick
I'll be uploading some of the photos here as well. The fair was a blast and the people running it loved the fursuit. I"ll do a more in depth edit to this post sometime tomorrow when I'm a bit more awake :)

Fur suiting at local renfair
Posted 11 years agoI went to the local renfair which is called the Three Barons Fair. Used today as a test run for fur suiting. It went really well. Lots of photos got taken of me and I had a lot of fun. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos myself, but I will try to get some screen caps from the videos my handler took while I was there. I'll also be looking around for any photos that people took. Definitely going next weekend, though I might not have a handler for most of Saturday. Still trying to work something out.
Also, I tried out one of these:
http://www.atlanticbodyboards.com/h.....ng-system.html
Suit fits on it perfectly and it's already dry. Definitely something I'm recommending for people :).

FC and renfair stuff
Posted 11 years agoGot a room all set for FC, now to start looking for a good flight deal.
Also finally heard back from the local renfair people. The person I talked to sounded like they were excited about having me show up in my fursuit. Now to make some tweaks and I should be good.

upcoming renasaince fair
Posted 11 years agoSo, next month there's a renaissance fair that's going on locally. I'm planning on going, hopefully in suit. I've contacted the fair organizers but haven't heard back yet if it'll be ok to wear my fursuit at their event. I'll let people know how things go and I'm definitely hoping to get some good pictures if I'm able to make this work. Any suggestions for suiting at a non-furry event? Other than the obvious ones like "Don't talk to the media", "Don't creep people out", and "Make sure to stay hydrated".
new quiver design/redesign ideas
Posted 11 years agoSo, I've been thinking about making another quiver. I learned a bunch making the first one, but I feel that it doesn't really sit properly in place when I wear it. I'm currently tossing around a few of ideas:
Y style strap system, basically 2 shoulder straps that meet with a single lower strap
harness style. 4 straps that cross the chest in an X
backpack style. two vertical straps with a connector across the chest if needed
vest with the quiver attached to the back
some weird combination of the above.
Really stuck on this at the moment as I want something that will look good, be functional, and that I could probably wear either while in my fursuit or if I just want to go shooting. I might also try to re-do my current quiver's strap so it sits better...just not sure how to go about it.

Posted 11 years agoJust wanted to say thanks to all the people who have added me to their watch lists or favorited one of the pictures I've posted. Definitely appreciate it. I'll try to get some more content up soon.
FC2014 and my first time fursuiting :)
Posted 11 years agoOk, finally got some time now that I'm mostly recovered from being at FC. I'll try to do a more in depth post this weeken regarding all the people I got to hang out with and upload some pictures I took. I was keeping the details of the fursuit that I was going to bring to FC quiet because I wanted to surprise people. Well, here's the suit I commissioned from the awesome Beastcub.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12347230/
I have to say, walking around in suit was very cool. The suit fit very nicely and I think the proportions worked out well. While the suit was very warm, it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. The fan in the head worked very well and there was surprisingly good air flow through the suit itself while I was moving. My additions of belt, quiver, and bow needs some tweaking to get the look right, but overall, I was very happy. I was very pleasantly surprised how many people stopped me to take photos. Was a new experience being on the other side of the cameras for once. heh. Visibility from the suit was very good and other than the couple of hours wearing the suit, I didn't feel like I needed a wrangler to guide me around, though I didn't want to go walking down a dark street alone. I am definitely going to try to go out on more outings with this suit. Can't wait to see the reaction at the local renaissance fair this summer to an anthro unicorn walking around. :)

FC bound :)
Posted 11 years agoRoom's taken care of, flight is booked, and registration is complete. FC here I come :)
Possibly FC bound
Posted 12 years agoWell, I'm looking at trying to get to FC this year. I've submitted my request for time off at work and am researching flights and such. Figured I'd see if someone had some space available, I'd prefer to get into the main hotel, but at this point, I'll probably take what I can get. If I end up canceling, I have no problem contributing to the room cost anyway, since I know how much it sucks when that happens.
Duct Tape Dummy 2
Posted 12 years agoOk, I got another dummy done. I think this time it worked much better. We started with contractor grade tape and it stuck really well to itself. Also, I used a set of painter's coveralls turned inside out instead of trying to use plastic wrap. For areas around the hands and feet, some plastic bags were used and then the extra was cut away. We found that the duct tape stuck way better to the inner, slightly rougher surface than the outer surface of the suit. Took a couple hours to get it made and I think it turned out pretty well. Definitely helped having scissors with a safety tip for cutting the suit off. I didn't get a single nick this time. heh. Elbows, knees, belt area, as well as where a tail would be all got marked. Now it's all boxed up along with some other stuff and going to be sent to get used to make a fursuit. I'm definitely looking forward to this and can't wait to see how it turns out.
Duct Tape Dummy Attempt 1
Posted 12 years agoWell, finally tried to make a duct tape dummy. Been trying to do this for a while, but finally had the time and help available. Learned a lot on this first attempt, unfortunately it didn't work and had to scrap it. Note: Do not use one of those nylon/spandex body suits for a base. The duct tape came would not stick to it, though maybe some higher quality tape would have. I'd gotten the suit after Halloween for cheep, thinking it would be perfect. Overall, the process went pretty smooth and only took a little over 2 hours. I used basic strength duct tape, and I think I should have gone with some stronger stuff as it fairly easily came up and had to keep being smoothed down. Might have been ok if I'd had a better base for it to stick to. Live and learn. I'll probably run some tests on different types to see which works best for what's available where I'm at. Tough part right now is figuring out what the best base layer to use will be. I went with the body suit because it was form fitting so I wouldn't have to worry about excess bulk under the tape. Will try some other stuff and do some more research online to see what works for people. Maybe my second attempt will actually be usable.
mythological anatomy book
Posted 12 years agoI was at Barns and Noble today and found a book titled "The Resurrectionist". Glanced through it and found a lot of really neat anatomical drawings of different mythological creatures. Here's a link to the B&N write up:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the.....=9781594746161
I haven't read it yet, just looked at all the drawings, which take up about 2/3 of the book. Might not be a bad reference for people. Thought I'd share it.

new phone and games
Posted 12 years agoWell, I finally upgraded to a smart phone. My old phone finally gave up on me :P. I had a bunch of certificates so got an Iphone cheap. Been loading it up with apps and games so figured I"d see if anyone else is playing the stuff I"m trying out. Here's my contact if anyone's interrested:
Game Center = Aayrick
e-mail = Aayrick2[at]yahoo.com
Some of the games (and contact ID's for the games) I"m playing include :
Dragonvale
Modern War (303 404 600)
Monster Quest (323 251 753)
Reign of Dragons (ABBPLPE)
Legend of the Cryptids (enter my user ID of Aayrick in the INvite ID area when you register)
Guardian Cross (OV96306)
There's a bunch of others, but these are the ones I'm playing mostly. Basically looking to hook up with others to have fun
update and color wheel link
Posted 13 years agoBrowsing around, I found this site:
http://colorschemedesigner.com/
It's got lots of different color wheels you can play with to find all sorts of matching or contrasting colors. Other than finding that, I haven't been up to much lately. Been doing a little photography, chatting and pretty much plugging along with work and life. I'm hoping to get to a con next year, but saving the money is really tough. Other than that, I haven't been playing World of Warcraft, or Diablo 3, or any of the other games I've got. Just seem to be burned out. Most of my friends have moved to other games or stopped playing so I end up soloing a lot and grinding and that's getting really boring. I've been trying to get back into drawing or writing, but everytime I sit down, I just don't like what I see so I pretty much trash it. Oh well, we'll see what happens
