Thought I'd mention this here too, for anyone who has a Tumblr.

I'm now participating in the Great Daily SketchBet http://sketchbet.tumblr.com/ on Tumblr. The goal is to post a sketch, every single day, until the deadline (December for this round). If you miss a day, you lose. (and have to pay up your bet to the winner.)

Not only am I doing this to keep myself on a strict deadline (and kill my procrastination tendencies), but as a way to challenge myself.
So I've written up a list of things that I normally do not draw, and I'll be forcing myself to drawn them each week.

-2 backgrounds, with at least 1 needing a perspective grid.

-2 human characters, either being from a photo ref, or concept design. Full bodies.

-1 illustration concept/speed painting. Concentrating on composition, lighting and color scheme.

-At least one sketch per week must be comic related, either from MadWillow, Dream-Eater or Omega District.

that'll give me 2 days for free mindless sketching, to keep the creativity fresh.

I'll be posting them on my Tumblr http://pencilcat.tumblr.com/, as well as at the SketchBet group. (I'll probably compile weekly sketch dumps too for here, unless I should post each one individually?) I'd appreciate any encouragement and feedback (and possibly sketch prompts?).
If you don't see a sketch before 11:59pm on any day, start screaming at me to post something! XD

Well that was terribly anti-climatic.

The lights flickered a few times, the internet+cable was down for a few hours, and we got a bunch of wind/rain, but that was about it. :T

I feel kinda cheated because I had to suffer through a week of warnings and media-hype only for nothing to happen!

(though I'm actually kidding. I have family in Vermont and we haven't been able to get in touch with them yet to see if they're ok or not :/ )

So just putting it out there that I may or may not be able to get online for the next few days. Irene's creeping up the coast, and while I doubt she'll stir up much trouble for us up here in Maine, you can never underestimate mother nature.

We're already betting on loosing power, but for how long is determined how many trees get knocked down (in case you don't know, Maine as a lot of trees.), and how long clean up will take. Thankfully flooding is sort of a non-issue, with the vast majority of the area being quite a ways above sea-level (and my house being on a mountain \o/ )


Anywho, Irene's full force isn't expected to hit until Sunday night, even though the rains just started now. Wish me luck!

I'm riding the monster-design inspirational wave while it lasts. :P

So this is my final week at the day-job that was literally killing my soul. Last week I gave my notice, and I'm almost free (Saturday is my last day.)

So basically I'm making an official announcement that commissions are open all the time now, with no limit. I'm looking for other job opportunities at the moment (pref. ones in the art-field), but commissions will help keep the student loans at bay ._.

My current drive is just about full, and I'm looking to get a 2nd one (one for backup, the other for movies/media storage).

I currently have a WD MyBook, which is ok. I was just wondering if there were any other brands that people like better or might suggest? I have Windows Vista, so something compatible with that.

So I've started embracing the whole 'social media' trend on the internet, and I'm trying not to be such a hermit ^^;; I figured I'd give you all an overview of where else to find me on the internet.

My day-job got way crazy over the past month (we've gone through four managers!), which left me as sort of a mini-manager, trying to keep everything together. (which was awful and stressful.)

Good news is that things are settling down, I have a semi-consistent schedule and 3 days off! I'll be replying to notes and comments that I have in my inbox, and expect an art-dump very soon! (commissions first!)

-What's a redline?: Basically you show me a drawing that you made which you feel needs help, either with anatomy, composition, perspective etc. I then draw over it in red (or some other color) so you can visually see my suggestions and critiques. Essentially it's visual artistic advice.

Saturday at 8pm-ish EST, I'll set up a LiveStream specifically for redlining and an art-help session. This is a great opportunity if you've always wanted to learn something. Make a suggestion on what you'd like to learn, and I'll do a live tutorial. :)
-Just send me a link of your picture before the livestream session starts. (here in the comments is fine)
-Let me know what kind of critique/help you're looking for, otherwise I'll critique everything. (but I may still point out other things)
-Due to popularity, I will only be accepting 10 redline help requests!

Browsing around this site has rekindled my interest in drawing anthro art (which I haven't done seriously in over 6+ years), so expect more doodles in the future.

Also, I may open up commissions here in the near future. I've got a huge commission project that I'll be working on during the next week, but maybe sometime after that? any interest in that?
