Been a Year
General | Posted 14 years agoHowdy everyone! It's com to my attention that it's been a year since the last time I wrote a journal. Heck, my last journal was for Every Day in May! Silly squirrel, I did absolutely terrible at that project last year. This year, I'm going to take a different spin on the whole thing. Truth is, I need to get back into drawing, and putting my drawings up on FA. I'm also trying to start a project (A webcomic, but shh), and I'm aiming to have the site designed and the first comic up by the end of May. That's where you guys come in. I'm suffering from Artist Block and I need to shake out of it. While I'm not going to be doing Every Day in May, I would like to harvest some ideas for drawings, and get up at least 4 of 5 finished pieces this month. So, this is your chance. I've already been taking requests via Twitter, so a few are on the queue, but shoot me your ideas and prepare to have me slaughter them as I get back into the swing of things. :3
Happy May! (Every Day in May!)
General | Posted 15 years agoMiss me? I sure did. I haven't seen free time in months. I've moved, I've got a job, I've finally finished my thesis, and I've done a slew of other things that turned out to be far more time consuming than originally planned. It's been fun. Am I free now? Absolutely not. But...there's something special that's finally brought me around to sitting down in my studio (which I set up, but have never once used) and pulling out a sheet of paper.
It's May!
And, if you've been watching my account for a year and a month, you know what that means: Every Day in May. So, despite all of the nagging chores and responsibilities that have popped up in my life in the past 6 months, I am dedicating myself to sitting down and drawing something, anything, every day this month.
This year, I'm also inviting people to participate along with me. Every Day in May has in the past helped me to develop my characters, look at composition and scene creation more creatively, and improve my sense of color coordination through sheer practice. Although I was exhausted by the end of May last year, I've found myself looking forward to May this year, and I think anyone who participates will find that they do the same.
So please, give it a try! And if you do, comment to this journal and I will begin to add links to people's accounts who're participating!

P.S. On a side note, I have 7000 messages (including submissions, thankfully) which have gone unseen in my absence. I'll be plugging through them, but it's going to take me a while. I thank you all for your comments, favorites, and watches.

Art Ideas!
General | Posted 16 years agoI know I could grab one off of Every Day in May, but hey, what fun would that be? I'm having an art block! I want to draw abi, or maybe abi with someone. Something simple- nothing that'll frustrate me trying to get right (I.E. no "swimming in a pool of open clams" type suggestions. That's gross anyway.) Also, I'm limited to Photoshop, still. So yeah. Suggestions. Go.
Dilemoids and BIRTHDAY!
General | Posted 16 years agoThe Good: It's muh birthday on Wednesday! I'm so excited! I'm going to go for sushi buffet and fill up on the best nibbles in town. Omnomnom. :O
The Bad: So, life's been busy. :3 Not so busy that I can't be on FA- no, I've been stopping by nearly every day just to take a peek at submissions, notes, comments, etc. But, between attending weddings, portfolio building, yatta yatta, I haven't been able to do much art for the site. But!! My gallery is a lie! I've done many more doodles and watercolors than have been posted lately! See the trouble is, I managed to bust my scanner. KAPOW. And, simultaneously, I managed to lose the cable for my camera -and- bust my laptop that had a media card reader. BOOM, BANG. So basically, whatever art I have been doing, you guys haven't been able to see, simply because I have absolutely no way to create digital copies of my originals.
The Ugly: So.... No submissions for you guys. :( Unless I do more digital pieces.
P.S. I apologize to those of you who I have open trades/commissions going with. The majority are done, but I can't get them digitalized. So, for now, I ask for your patience. :3

Abi does Commissions!
General | Posted 16 years agoNow that Everyday in May is all finished up, I'm going to open up commissions! In order to mix things up a little bit and make it fun, I've made "commission packages" that are essentially goodies with free accessories. :3
Here's the drill:
-You pick a package.
-You send me a note card including:
* What package you'd like.
* A full description of your character/links to a character sheet(s)
* What materials you'd like me to use (digital, watercolor, colored pencils are your choices)
* If you'd like to be surprised or see a sketch before I ink.
* Any other information you think I should have!
-Unless my commissions have filled up (*crosses her fingers*) I will send you a note card with my paypal address.
-Once paid, I'll send you a sketch before inking (If you'd like)- give me your okay on it or ask for a revision, and I'll work my magic!
-I will send you a print-quality (600 DPI) of the image when I'm done with it. If you would also like the original, that's fine, just add on the cost of sending it to you and it's all yours. :3
Packages:
Icon $5
You get: an icon (blinking or not) of your character.
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2368091/
Bust $10
You get: a bust of your character and a blinking icon made from the picture.
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2361105/
Note: Some busts may only go down to the shoulders/chest, unlike the example.
Portrait $15
You get: a full body shot of your character with either a simple background or no background and a blinking icon made from the picture.
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2361074/

Every Day in May - Conclusion
General | Posted 16 years agoLast year, I watched as French Toast Girl made her way through Every Day in May. Her style is more developed than mine- all of her watercolors have a certain kind of line style and feeling that ties them all together. She's already done so much growing as an artist. But regardless, every day in may showed that she had such dedication to her art!
This year, I wanted to show that same dedication. I wanted to know that every day, for a whole month, I showed that same dedication. But what I got was more! By dedicating myself to creating a piece a day for the whole month of May, I feel like I've really found a comfortable, fun way to draw Abighaile and my other for-fun art. On top of that, May has made me think of so many great ideas for art projects in the future, as well as commission ideas!
Best of everything about May, I've met some really nice people during the course of the month. Meeting them has sparked trades, fun conversations, and a whole new burst of comments (my favorite things!) when I post art. It's meant the world to me! At the beginning of May, I had around 1,000 page views. Not that it's the end of May, I'm up to 1,700! You can guess, I'm sure, how good that makes me feel, to nearly double my page views in 1 month. :3
So yeah-- I'm totally psyched about all the great things that May brought around. I want to thank everyone again who's been sticking around on FA with me and commenting/noting me so frequently- that's my joy on this site. <3

Every Day In May
General | Posted 16 years agoFrench Toast Girl (http://www.frenchtoastgirl.com/weblog/blogger.shtml) is something of an internet-idol for me. Her watercolors are so free and fun! During the month of May, she sets a goal to finish one drawing every day, calling it "Everyday in May." This year around, I'm hoping to join her in this artistic mission!
So, I have a request for all of you out there- which will, inevitably, conclude in free mini-commissions. Free commissions?! Yes, free commissions!
Looking through FA it's easy to see that everyone loves seeing their character drawn by other people-- it's like seeing the world through someone else's eyes. The point is, I'm going to be taking suggestions for doodles to do during the month of May, to keep up my Every day in May challenge. Your character? Sure, I'll try! Abisquirrel doing something fun? That's fine, too! Have a reference you'd like to see me use? Send it over!
The catch? These are one-day doodles; and some days I might be busy with other things and unable to dedicate much time to drawing. While I'm going to be taking requests without any charge, there won't be any re-dos, revisions, mail-outs, etc, and some doodles may not be as developed as others. But hey, it's free and all for fun!
So reply with your ideas and love! More than one suggestions can be taken from one person, but once my calendar's full I won't be taking any more ideas. Thank you!!
P.S. If you like the doodles, etc that you see, starting around mid-May I may be taking on a few actual commissions as well. :3

Art Prints
General | Posted 17 years agoI hope that everyone had been having a wonderful holiday season! :3 I've been sitting down all morning plugging along on the watercolor that I'm doing as my Christmas cards this year (late, I know!), wondering how Kinkos will be at creating cards out of the artwork. Then I got to thinking, how do artists go about making prints of their artwork?
There are a few reasons: High quality prints would look much nicer in my portfolio than what I have now. I would be able to sell originals of my art and have a nice print to cling onto. And, for things like bookmarks or less personal pieces, I could sell limited counts of my artwork cheaply.
So, can anyone give me any pointers?

The March
General | Posted 17 years agoI know I normally don’t post personal journals on here, but I needed to rant a little…
It didn't hit me until tonight that my entire life is about to change. I'm marching and getting my bachelors degree tomorrow, officially to be a graduate. While I have plans to go on and get my masters, classes from here on in will be an afterthought of working and other responsibilities.
I’ve spent the last week since finals ended going on campus events for graduating seniors- a dinner cruise, ball, etc; drinking, stuffing my face, and dancing like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve felt closer to the people who are most close to me than I ever have before; making great memories, and losing others thanks to a solid week’s worth of open bars.
In a way, I wish these times would never end. I wish that familiar faces would always live two doors down, and that smiling faces would always answer when I knocked at 2am (in my slippers). I wish that 8am classes would always be the earliest thing I ever need to wake up for, and that classes would still be a 10 minute walk away. I wish that I would always be sitting down for dinner with lots of friends, complaining about campus food and laughing about something great that happened the day before, to all of us, together.
But all of that isn’t what’s in my future: While I’ll miss those things, I’m looking forward to taking the leap into the real world and finding out what kinds of things will make me smile once I’m there.
I’m sure the change isn’t as big as it seems either, and that once I’ve graduated, it all won’t seem so scary. I remember sleeping in my first dorm room with my best friend my freshmen year. I was nervous about taking college level classes, and my dreams were riddled with nightmares of accidentally going to class in the nude. Before long though, everything just seemed to fall into place and life was good.
Here’s to a good four years, a fun-filled future, and hopefully a good night’s sleep.

Commissions
General | Posted 17 years agoI recently got a letter from the summer camp where I usually work asking for me to return for another summer... and it's got me thinking about my plans for the summer. One thing I'm curious about is taking on some commissions. If I was to open myself up for commissions, would anyone be interested?
