Some updates and upcoming Halloween Event
Posted 6 years agoFirst of all, I want to apologize to all the commissioners I still owe artwork to. I've been having a hard time recovering from real life circumstances delaying my work pretty much all the year. I can tell you, working at home can be a real pain sometimes.
The chakats project, and the last batch of single character commissions are coming along correctly and I'll be delivering stuff real soon, as soon as I get more stuff finished.
With that in mind, I also want to mention that I don't want to miss this year's Halloween event. So I promise you guys, I'll be working like a dog to finish this in time! The fact that I get started with the Halloween stuff, doesn't mean that I'm forgetting about everyone else. So please, be a little extra patient with me just this time.
The other important thing to announce is precisely that. I'll be opening this year's Halloween event very soon. Please keep and eye open!
Participants from previous Halloween events, please also stay alert. I'll be selling those pictures in wallpaper packages, and if you confirm you took part of them, you can get the packages for free.
More news about all that very soon!
Working for now on putting everything together :P

Tier open at Patreon for exclusive monthly commission spot
Posted 7 years agoSince we just started the month of July, now it would be a good time to pledge on my Patreon if you wish to help me create the comics Moonlace and Bethellium, plus other things such as pinups and their alternative versions and the shorts C-Chan's a Catgirl!.
Right now, there's also a single open spot in the tier of $40 that allows you to get all existing rewards (access to discord channel, works in progress, sneak peeks, early look at pages in hi-res, alternative versions of pinups, etc.), plus the possibility of requesting a single character commission every month. This means that you have a secured commission spot every month, valid for a single character commission from sketch to pinup quality, without having to wait for when I open regular commissions through journals.
Sadly, the commission requested needs to be paid for on it's own. But the option is available to get a 50% discount if you request any character from the comics.
I'll also open regular commissions soon enough, but Patreon commissions are separate. So please take the time to check the available information there if you're interested. I can answer possible questions in case you have them :)
Thanks a lot everyone for your incredible support as always!

Leilani could use your support for new website
Posted 7 years agoAs most of you know,
lei-lani parted ways with my Patreon recently so that she could form her own for "The Depths" webcomic, and offer a lot of rewards and perks to her many fans. Now she's going to be getting a brand new website soon, at a special cost of $300 total, but she'll need some new supporters for her Patreon to work out this cost. Even if you subscribe for a few months, it's more than enough to help her.

Shana's selling adoptables to help repair our car
Posted 7 years agoThis week our car broke down and we need some extra cash to pay for the repairs. We can't really work any faster than what we're already doing, because we're at full speed right now.
So, if you want to help us and you like adoptables,
shana is selling some of the adoptables she's acquired over the years. Maybe you'll find one that you like.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27660188/
If you can't buy, maybe sharing with someone you know that could be interested would help plenty.
Thanks guys! :D

2.- Only one spot per account. Only one commission per spot or two in case each commission is simple enough in quality or number of characters (like flat color sketch with one character and similar). We can always discuss this when you get your spot.
3.- COOLDOWN RULE: If you got a spot in the previous batch of commissions, you won't be taken into account for this batch. You'll be able to apply for the NEXT batch of commissions though. (This was the previous commission batch https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8701275/ )
4.- Once you leave a comment you'll have to wait for my reply to confirm that you were one of the FIVE first comments. In the meantime you're free to send notes and ask as many questions as you may have.
5.- If you get a spot you can choose any type of commission in my commission price list except those marked as Large Commissions:
http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/abluedeer/.
6.- If possible try to have the information of your commission ready in one week and the payment in around 15 days.
7.- My standard restrictions about what I draw and what not still apply. You can find all about that in the Commissions List.
Once all slots are filled up I'll update this journal with the tag [CLOSED] and will write a list below with the names of the people who got a spot. In the meantime, if you were one of the first to comment and you requested a spot, I'll reply to you telling you that you got a spot.
After I confirm your spot, you're free the send the info of your commission in the following format or something similar. Just take into account that I request only the info that's important, so if you don't send the form, I'll probably ask for the details anyway:
*a- Type of commission
*b- Paypal address
*c- Email address if you prefer to use it or specify if you prefer to use FA notes
*d- Subject of the picture and references of your idea. Also if you're willing to give me artistic freedom on the subject, please give me hints of what your character likes and what not, and situations you may like to see depicted.
*e- A possible title the finished picture could have so I can understand a little better it's focus and the feeling it should produce (leave empty if unsure).
*f- Idea and references of the background if you want it.
*g- The character or characters that you want drawn:
-) Name of the character
-) Sex and species
-) Graphic references of the character in case you have them (Ref-sheet are awesome here). If it's the first time you'll have your character drawn, the most detailed written description you have of it will do (Character design comes with 10% extra charge)
-) Description of the main personality of the character in short.
-) Type of clothing the character will wear or in case you're willing to give me artistic freedom here, a description of what the character usually wears. If it's not going to wear anything leave this field blank.
-) Very specific details of the character that can differentiate it from similar characters and that are very important and specific such as special shaped fur patterns, tattoos, unusual eye colors, jewelry, type of tail, etc.
*h- Also just to avoid any problem, here let me know if you want for this piece to be kept private or not.

goldfang-da-greatWhat does everyone think of "The Depths" so far?
Posted 7 years agoI'm not sure how many people were aware or not, but my friend
lei-lani has been working very hard trying to make one of the comics I draw, The Depths, a lot more popular. I am very happy to be associated with the talented writer, and her webcomic idea is super-awesome. I am also equally happy to be associated with
kinojaggernov who as a colorist has been extremely beneficial to the comic as well.
The Depths features Leilani's character, a sea otter named Leilani Perierre, and her adventures of romance and danger in the South Seas during the early 20th century. Very aquatic and often erotic, this adults-only webcomic is turning many heads already. Top Webcomics ranks it in the Top 20 currently.
Lei-lani Can use your help to pay for expenses for art, a website, and soon visual novels and animation. Also to keep up with a weekly pace. It would be great if you could give Leilani a little love and show your support.

About piracy of patreon's content
Posted 8 years agoRecently my attention has been brought to the existence of websites that are mirroring my patreon content without sending any support and sometimes even receiving donations for me from which I don't see a single cent.
This is not the place to get into detail of why stealing material is bad. In my particular case, my life depends entirely on receiving money from commissions and the donations given through platforms like Patreon, Ko-fi and other's that I'm using these days. This money is not received to feed a cold corporation voracity of cash, to buy a manor on the beach or get myself a cellphone covered in gold, but instead just to bring food to my family's table and keep my son and wife in a decent way of living. Most of us artists are barely making enough money to get past every month with paying bills and taxes. So in this specific case, stealing the content that we create hurts more than what you could hurt from stealing from super big companies that earn millions a month.
Also, I offer my content for free in a minor quality every month. Not a censored version or a teaser, but simply a sligthly minor quality version of each content I create. So you can't say I'm against free content on the internet. All I want is to receive the minimum money needed to keep creating regular content and nothing more. My specific case depends even further from donations because, under the circumstances I live, it is either making a living through creating art or stopping entirely in search of a "real life job". So, for every time you steal something I create, you're helping to stop me from creating art at all.
Also for the super awesome people that have been following me during the past years, that have been expressing their support, I can ony ask you to tell me if you ever find one of these pirate sites so I can take the proper measures. I've been able to track down a few content thieves here and there and it's all been thanks to you.
As for me, I'm getting in contact with Patreon directly because they seem to be very bad at solving these issues and it's starting to get on my nerves due this and also past absolutely dumb decisions they've made. I'm also getting in touch with other artists and see if we can organize to strike back against pirate sites that simply don't care about the people they're hurting.
All the original content I create is officially posted only here on FA, Weasyl, Sofurry, Inkbunny, my social media sites and Patreon. Soon I'll also be using Tapas.io and SmackJeeves to post my SFW comics. But if you ever find any other website at all that's posting my content, then it's not official, so please stop sending them money and supporting them.

Some advice for artists and supporters regarding Patreon
Posted 8 years agoFirst of all, I want to be completely clear that I'm against what Patreon did, of rising the amount of money it charges to patrons. And I completely understand the position of supporters that are leaving Patreon entirely. But I'll advocate here for a third party that's caught in the crossfire, that's the creators and artists, who are being abandoned by both sides. I won't speak about the multiple reasons why this is a bad thing or not. My personal standing in this is kinda in the middle, but I don't want to convince anyone of my point of view, but rather give everyone options of what to do, given that this is the status of things. And even if Patreon decides to change it's policies, many people will still stay away from it. I won't tolerate drama in this specific journal, but only what can offer more options for both artists and supporters.
For Artists who use Patreon:
- Don't jump out of Patreon yet. Instead start looking for different options that could give you a semi-regular income while another better option than Patreon arise. Don't throw away your projects and fight for them. It would be a great loss for everyone everywhere to have less original content, whatever your skill is.
- Form teams. Dealing with this type of issues is often better when you have backup. Collab with other artists and bring your fans and friends close tight. Everyone together will find a solution in the long term.
- Reduce costs. Creating original content takes time and money, Find the way to keep creating stuff while also staying within the limits of what you're earning, but don't stop no matter what. Eventually your supporters will come back and support you again, when they find the right way for them to do it.
- Widen your horizon. The internet is filled with people that would love to support you, outside of FA. Post at every gallery you can and every social media you can. Bring more people to your art everywhere, and you'll find those fans that are still wating for you to appear. There's enough people in the world to support all our projects, we just need to go and meet them.
- Create donation pools. Set a fixed amount of money you need to create a single element of content, and open it here or in any other of your galleries, so people can donate directly to you to keep creating your stuff.
- Use other platforms such as ko-fi and liberapay. Some of us who live out of the US have limited options, but those who can, should try to use whatever tool is available for them.
- And specially, Don't give up! We all face obstacles and this is a big one. But we can only be stronger after facing difficulties and rising above them. I repeat, the world won't be a better place if you stop giving back what you have to offer. So please, don't stop!
For Supporters and fans:
-Let's calm down, everyone. I know there's reason to be mad, but there's people that never did anything to hurt you and that's in the middle of the crossfire. They still need your help as badly as ever, if not more.
- Don't leave your artists alone at Patreon. Try to stay with them while they find another way to support their dreams. If you truly believe in the community, then you'll have to make this extra effort for them, so everyone can find a way to eventually move away from Patreon and still be able to keep creating their art.
- Choose to support the smaller artists, and drop the larger ones. There's no point in leaving everyone behind on their own. Again, if you truly believe in the community, leave your support from the bigger artists who are most likely to survive the crisis, and help those who are at risk of stopping their projects at all. I consider myself to be in the middle/higher level of support, so what I'm saying is "please drop your support for me and support the smaller patreon accounts!". The world won't be a better place if you let those projects die if you can actually do something about it right now.
- Stay on Patreon only if you care about the artists, not about the company. It's the artists who you are leaving alone, not the company. The artist with it's supporters will be able to eventually move out from Patreon and find another place to crate their community, but if you leave your artists alone in this crucial moment, that trust will also be broken.
- Stay in touch with your artists and help them find options to move on. Help them keep doing what they do in whatever way you can, not only by commissioning them, but also by offering options of where they can continue their original work.
- Donate to them however you can and as regularly as you can. If you truly care about what they do, then there's no reason to not keep doing this regularly outside of Patreon. If the intermediary is the problem, then show the artists that your truly care about them with no intermediary involved!
- Don't leave them alone. Stay closer with them now than ever. Choose, if you have to, who you'll help to survive, and leave to others the chance to be helped by the rest. If the community is as strong as everyone says, then each artist will have at least a small group of people who'll keep supporting them. But please, don't retrieve absolutely all your pledges just yet, because then you're certainly helping to bring many projects down.
I don't think that Patreon will take back it's decision, but even if it does, there's reason for many to leave. But I just want everyone to take notice that leaving your artists behind is not the right way to show you're mad. What happened will most likely trigger the need of more similar services everywhere and there will come a time when there will be an option for everyone. But right now there's a big risk that many projects can crumble if you don't support them. So please, stay with your artists a bit longer. There's no worst feeling in the world, than hearing hundreds of words of support but still seeing everyone leaving you to fight alone. The support has to be shown, not only said.
Criticize me all you want, because I'm sure many will do. But if you're not besting my ideas or giving constructive criticism, then I'll delete your comment. Because for once, I think someone had to step in and give the artist's version on this. The people who's putting all their effort and time into giving you something worthy, that can make you happy and that can bring out the best of the community once again.

About Patreon's increase of pledge costs
Posted 8 years agoOnly a short journal since I've been super busy with commissions and comics lately.
I just wanted you to know that I'm also against Patreon's new policy of increasing the amount of money patron's pay for each pledge. It affects the most to smaller Patreon users and to smaller pledges, which is dumb in my opinion.
I've already expressed my opinion about it to Patreon and I can only hope they'll change their policies soon.
It makes no sense to supposedly increase the amount of money the creator gets when we'll have massive loss of support due to this unilateral decision on their side.

10 "End of year" commission spots available! [CLOSED]
Posted 8 years agoThis was a very busy year. I did not manage to open commissions as frequently as I could have wished. But it would seem that 2018 will be fairly less troublesome in that regard.
So, calculating the amount of time I have available for what remains of the year before Christmas, I'll be able to only open 10 commission spots with a few restrictions. I recommend that if you want a picture related to the holidays, you request it now, because I'm not certain I'll be able to open commissions again until January of 2018. Only if I manage to finish earlier, I'll open a couple of flash commissions, but otherwise this can easily be the last commission batch of the year.
Feel free to leave your comment requesting a spot first and read the rules after. But, you'll need to read them before I confirm your spot. If your comment doesn't fulfill the rules, your spot will be cancelled at once.
You can choose to pick any type of commission that's not tagged as Large Commission in my Commissions List. Also I won't accept commissions larger than two characters in the same picture. Ref-sheets doesn't count as standard commissions anymore and should be requested directly through notes. More info on Ref-sheets here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8068219/
Rules:
1.- Just leave a comment to this journal requesting a spot. Comments not explicitly requesting a commission won't be taken into account.
2.- Only one spot per account. Only one commission per spot.
3.- There won't be cooldown rule to this batch. Anyone can apply.
6.- If possible try to have the information of your commission ready in a week after I confirm your spot and the payment in around 15 days.
Good luck everyone!

5 FirstCome-FirstServe commission spots available! [CLOSED]
Posted 8 years agoFeel free to leave your comment requesting a spot first and read the rules after. But, you'll need to read them before I confirm your spot. If your comment doesn't fulfill the rules, your spot will be cancelled at once.
I'll open 5 standard commission slots this time in "First come - First serve" fashion. These spots are planned to be finished in about a month, depending on the complexity of the batch as a whole. You can choose to pick any type of commission that's not tagged as Large Commission in my Commissions List. Ref-sheets doesn't count as standard commissions anymore and should be requested directly through notes. More info on Ref-sheets here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8068219/
This batch is meant to be related to halloween stuff, since this is possibly the only batch I'll open before october 31th (or november 2nd for us), so if you want a halloween idea drawn, now's the time to request it. If I manage to finish before the deadline, I'll open another batch right away, but I can't promise it.
Rules:
1.- Just leave a comment to this journal requesting a spot. Comments not explicitly requesting a commission won't be taken into account.
2.- Only one spot per account.
(This was the previous commission batch http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8347535/ )
4.- Once you leave a comment you'll have to wait for my reply to confirm that you were one of the FIVE first comments. In the meantime you're free to send notes and ask as many questions as you may have.

7.- My standard restrictions about what I draw and what not still apply. You can find all about that in the Commissions List.

tharkisOn Comic projects and Patreon support
Posted 8 years agoTo my friends and watchers:
Thanks so much, all of you, for your comments, likes and general feedback on "Moonlace", "Bethellium", and of course "The Depths" comics so far. It's because of you that I keep working on these projects.
As you know, I've made all these comics available online for free, but since these comics take more time I would usually devote to commissions, obviously my income to support my wife and son is affected a little. I don't want to downgrade the quality of the comics at all, but that means I need to invest more time on them, sometimes even free time.
I'm doing okay with my Patreon and very happy for the support I've had so far, which is a lot, but it's not quite to a level I can be comfortable maintaining all three comic books each month and at the level of quality they deserve. I hope you are really liking them as much as I love drawing them. I believe all three tell amazing stories, and in time you'll understand why I think that. So I really want to keep going with them.
If you can offer even one dollar every month to help support these comics, that would mean a lot to me. If I can get only a couple hundred of my fans and watchers to pledge just $1 each month, I'd be settled to continue these projects for years to come. At this point patrons of $1 already have early access on all comics, along with access to all material on high resolution plus additional material such as sketches, scripts, ref-sheets, etc.
Stop by my Patreon link and see if the material convince you to support me. Or, feel free to share this journal with your friends. Just spreading the word can help me a huge lot!

If you have inquires about the rewards at Patreon or anything at all related to the ongoing comics, please ask me. I'm always more than happy to answer any related question :)
Your support and feedback means a lot to me! Thanks!

(This was the previous commission batch https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8293309/ )
6.- If possible try to have the information of your commission ready in 48 hours and the payment in around 7 days.
Good luck everyone! :D
