Frio's For sale!
General | Posted 16 years agoYep, you heard me.
We decided to sell Frio Husky. Mostly because we'd like to use the money for a deposit on a new place (if we can find one we like). The places we're looking at would require ~$1k-1200 for the deposit.
If you're looking to tell people about it (please do) it's our Black and White husky full suit plus the original partial pieces so it's like getting a suit and a half.
There's pictures of the full suit on the auction page but here's a pic of the partial just after we got it:

The auction can be found here:

Thanks all!

General | Posted 16 years agoThis is exactly why I could never be a judge
I'd take one look at this lawsuit, look the plaintiff right in the eyes and say "You're a dumb fucking bitch who apparently doesn't have a shred of common sense. GTFO my court before I bash you with my gavel."
I hate stupid, money grubbing, asshole people.... I really do. THEY'RE the downfall of humanity if anything is.

General | Posted 16 years agoSo, it's half official now. I've talked some with Surfcat Costumes (Sophie Cabra) and I've asked to be put on the list for a suit commission to start in November.
I haven't dicided/figured out for sure when I'm going to ask for it to be done. I'm currently thinking RMFC '10 or FC '11 depending on a few things. Or sometime in between, we'll see.
I was gonna use the money for a new computer... but that can wait a little longer still :P

RMFC
General | Posted 16 years agoI figure I should do the obligatory post-con synopsis at some point, why not now?
In short... RMFC RAWKED MAH SAWKS! Hehe =^-^=
In long...
We drove up Thursday, which was a pretty nice drive despite a few storms along the way, got to Denver around 5 or 6ish and got our room after a bit of confusion about the hotel (we had forgotten the name >_> ) Anyways, the hotel itself was pretty nice, though a bit small feeling. It's best feature was being a block or so from the 16th street mall. Mika and Dattas were waiting for us so we dumped stuff and kinda hung out that night, went to Hard Rock with tails on. We were the first furries to come in there and the manager and some of the staff thought it was cool.
Friday we got up around 8ish and went down for registration, everyone but me and Chris pre-registered so we were stuck in line a lot longer. After we finally finished that we went down to Einstien Bro. Bagels for breakfast, which became the norm for the weekend. Then Chris, Tiber/Sylvari and Dattas suited up and goofed around, getting themselves on the news in the process (See here for links). We hopped into the dealer's den and I got a sketch by Wolf Nymph (total sweetheart btw.) The dance was fun, though I didn't go down in suit.
Saturday we goofed around most of the morning then there was the parade. I was in Chris's Darkwulf suit for it as we wandered out and down along a section of the 16th St. mall. The news from Friday night had mentioned the parade and its time so we had a lot of locals out, most of which seemed to think it was interesting at least. After that we had to take a break (it was about 80-90 outside so we were a bit warm in suit). Got our sketchbook back and had another artist do one for Chris. Later we grabbed a few drinks at the bar before the dance and had some fun again (not in suit again for me).
Sunday was the usual wrapping up bit. Wandered the dealer's room where one girl with some very cool fantasy-type art was doing a sale of 4 prints (8.5x11 or 11x17) for $20 flat. Then I had to stand in line for about 2 hours waiting to pick up the small piece I bid on in the art auction (was called Shadow Tiger, basically me but without the red eyes or headfur, I couldn't NOT try to get it, lol). A bit later we all went back to the Hard Rock Cafe where one of us, in talking to the girl in the shop, found out they hadn't gotten to see any suiters. After dinner with a waitress that's decided she'd be a Woolly mammoth, we headed back to the hotel, suited up and returned to HRC. Much good times ensued, I think about 2/3 of the floor staff wanted pictures with us and a good number of random customers as well. One little kid (maybe 6 or 7) loved the Darkwulf suit (Chris was wearing it at the time). As we were about to leave, someone apparently turned on a giant fountain as there was a curtain of water at the edge of the awning. So we waited it out there, more pics, etc. Sunday dance I went to in suit... but I had lost my poi so I couldn't do what I wanted to >_>
Then Monday was the drive home, we all got in a caravan and drove the 8 hours back.
All in all, I'd say this was one of the best cons I've been to. Despite the small con space and tiny beds. I just hope I can have my own suit next year.

The guy just now got here to check it out after about half an hour.
*edit* Turns out it was nothing apparently. Oh well, better safe than 'sploded

French furries in marketing?
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, Orangina fruit drink's marketing department must be full of furs to produce a commercial like this.

XBL games
General | Posted 16 years agoHey all. Over the weekend I picked up the new Worms 2: Armageddon, and the Magic: Duels of the Plainswalkers from the arcade (since I have no one to play magic with in person anymore >_> ) I still have to unlock most of the cards though.
Anyways, was wondering if anyone felt like playing either one now and then, my XBL name is Facepaw.
If I'm not on the xbox just poke me on IM (they're in my profile) ^_^
Also, got the demo for 'Splosion Man, that game cracks me up :P
*edit* forgot to mention, if you see me on before about, oh, 4pm Mountain (6 EST) during the week, then it's probably my mate since i'm usually at work till then. :P

Politics
General | Posted 16 years agoI know, I rarely have much to say on the topic of politics beyond getting infuriated at gay-bashing, bible-thumping politicians. But that's not what I'm about this time.
I saw a news article today that, after a moment of consideration, just made me want to say 'Well, DUH! What'd you expect?'
Namely, someone did a poll to see who's likely to be elected in 2012 as president. Specifically they did the poll as Barack vs. Mitt Romney. In which Mitt came out a little ahead. They did a second one with Barack vs. Palin where Barack came out ahead.
The thing is... anyone with a slight ear to the country could have probably predicted that. Think about it for a moment. Despite the fact that this recession has been looming for a while now everyone's blaming Obama for it because he happened to be in office as it got worse and it's actually in the news more now than the war, unlike previously. As such people are going to think, right now, that a new-comer must be better (grass is greener after all).
As for Palin, well lately she's been in all sorts of ethics trials and scandals and just resigned her office so people will be thinking: "Shit, if she can't handle ALASKA, how's she going to handle the other 49 too?!". So, though they may not like Obama that much they'll pick the 'lesser of two evils'.
In today's economic and political climate, I would trust a poll like that about as far as a donkey can carry an elephant. Though, I'm sure, Mitt and the republicans will be all over it if they aren't already.
P.S. Don't even start with "Palin was cleared..." I know, but since when does anyone hear anything but negatives? Same goes with Obama and the economy, there's a dozen different people with two dozen different slants on what's good/bad/pointless.

Heh, government agencies
General | Posted 16 years agoHeard about this the other day, still amuses me.
So, you know that hugely momentous occasion 40 years ago that was broadcast on pretty much every TV in the nation? That thing where one of the most famous quotes in history came from? That first time we hurled a big chunk of metal with people strapped in up to a lifeless rock and watched them say "One small step for man"?
Yeah. NASA actually ERASED the original video recordings of all that.
Go figure huh? Not that essentially exact duplicates don't exist in dozens of news archives, but still. Well that's a government agency for you I suppose.

It's now official
General | Posted 17 years agoFor those of you that pay attention to me at all (and I don't blame those who don't) I'm now officially hired full-time here. I just finished signing all the papers, all that's left is to go do the drug test thing and bring in some extra ID for HR to verify a Federal form (law requires, blah blah).
It's not quite as much as I was hoping for, but I was shooting kinda high anyways really. It does include Health/Dental insurance for about 28% of what I was paying for it on the contract ($44/mo instead of like $36/wk) and about the same benefits.
All told, I should be getting ~20% more a month (if the % taken for taxes stays about the same...never can figure how that's supposed to work).
Now I just need to do my taxes and see what kind of tax return imma get.

General | Posted 17 years agoI'm sure most of you, by now, have seen the various 'Inflation' fetish stuff floating around.
Apparently someone attempted it though whether he was a fur that liked that fetish is unknown.
The main part of it:
Two recent hires, men in their twenties, were fiddling with the pressurized air hose used to power industrial air tools. They swept the dust off their dusty clothes; this was so much fun, one of them dropped his pants to feel the air sweep across his testicles. He bent further, and bet his comrade that he had the guts to pressurize his guts, and maybe have some fun farts. He proceeded to stick the hose in his anus and release six bar (atmospheres) of pressure, inflating and rupturing his colon and intestines.

Jurbs n' comps
General | Posted 17 years agoSo, as I doubt I've mentioned here, I've been on a contract through a placement agency since starting my job here. I work X hours, where I'm working pays the agency whatever rate, I get my $19/hr from that each week.
I've been waiting for said contract to end though because once it ends where I'm working is allowed to hire me directly. I've been a contractor before, working for a company through my dad's. At that time I was getting like $16/hr I think, but the company I was working for (paying my dad's company) was paying something like ~$50/hr for me to be there. Given that this placement company does only this sort of thing, unlike my dad's, I'd guess that they're getting something on the order of ~$60-75/hr for me to work here.
When I get hired directly I'll be able to ask for more money because even if they pay me $25/hr (plus benefits) they'll probably come out ahead vs. what they've been paying.
Anyways, I thought my contract didn't end until April since I can't count apparently. Turns out it ends this coming Saturday ^_^ my boss here has already gotten the go-ahead to hire me and we just have to get the details down. The pay for what I do, in this area, runs around $22-28/hr + benefits. So starting next week I may be making a good bit more money.
On that note, some of that money is going to start going to pay for a new computer for my mate. We're putting it on his dad's credit card and paying him monthly whatever we can.
Once that's taken care of we can afford it I hope to build this computer for myself too. Though whether I do that or get my suit first is questionable >_>.
Also, I put those LED poi in some long socks i had and they work great ^_^ I just have to adjust to them being so much bigger and heavier than glowsticks.

I have amazingly bad luck...
General | Posted 17 years agoGot my poi swings yesterday night, unpacked em and they weren't working. They were kinda cold so I pulled the batteries out and sure enough they were cold as ice. After warming them up they both worked great.
So it gets dark, I go outside to play around with them. They look cool and are fun, if heavier and harder to do wraps with at the moment. I'm out there for maybe 10 minutes and while spinning em I feel one side get a lot lighter all of a sudden and just think "...shit.." Sure enough, the ball lands on the other side of the patio concrete. The small string connecting the ball to the main string (via turning link) broke and I figure that's the worst of it.
Oh no. Not with my luck. That little string passes through two little plastic loops on the ball itself to hold it on, tiny bits compared to the over all surface area, I mean these things might be at most 2% of the total surface area...if that. Guess what the ball landed on. It apparently landed square on one of those loops, completely destroying it.
So now I have to figure out how to make it usable. My options are limited I think, I can try to put a small eyelet in the hole under the loop and epoxy it. Or I can see if I can find a long sock or something similar like I've seen some people do.
I dunno what yet.

General | Posted 17 years agoSo, just before FC I found some cool LED Poi swings but couldn't get them in time for the con. After the con I couldn't afford it right away.
Last week I finally got fed up drooling over them and ordered them ^_^
They'll be here today, hopefully when I get home. Guess what I'll be doing for a while once it gets dark :P
Maybe once I get used to them I'll attempt to take a little vid with the mate's camera...since it's the only working one in the house that I know of.

FC 09
General | Posted 17 years agoSo, we made it there and back safely, if exhausted.
I must say that while 08 was the best for a specific reason that many of you know, this year's was by far the most fun I've ever had at a con.
I tried out Dark's full suit while he was in his new Frio suit for the Sat. night dance, which was a blast and leads me to think that I'll need considerable practice in mine to be able to glowstring well in it when the time comes. It also pretty much confirmed for me that I wanted one of my own.
The guys we stayed with were awesome company and I hope to see all of them at other cons *hintnudgewink*
As to the lewtz. I got a full-body badge by Wolfnymph (it'll be scanned and uploaded when I get home), a tail finally from Bushycat who is still an cool lady, and a few random odds and ends for the hell of it.
The trip may have set us back a bit, and it's going to be hard getting my suit and going to cons as things are, but it was worth it to me, and I know Dark had a great time despite spending half the con fretting and fuming over his lack of Frio.
I'm kind of sad though, this year was the last year at the Double Tree for FC. Which means that I won't be able to pull my darling aside in later years and give him a kiss in the very spot I proposed to him. Here's to hoping the Fairmont will be just as much fun as the DT.
Oh, and I saw these before the con but didn't have time to get them to me, I'm so going to have these as soon as I can manage: http://www.houseofrave.com/zuni_poi_swings.html
Back to work for me, with my 4 hours of sleep last night >_>
