Yup. It's that time again. Hot weather, non-smart neighbors, dry as can be landscape.
There was THREE Incidents last month that had me ready to bail out, but those were earlier in the season and fire crews stomped them out in a hurry.

Next Morning's Update: Crews made good progress overnight. Forward progress has been halted and containment is rising. Aside from grungy air quality, this incident is pretty well under control.

Be smart and stay safe, everyone.


---Update: Sept. 2---
After a full day of absolutely BERSERK weather, this evening a lightning strike sparked a fire. Brief evac, but back home now.
Rain, sun, heat warning (100F+) moving on to hurricane force winds, then HAIL! ...and finish with a wildfire choking the air.
Who did what to piss of what deity? (Kidding)

Okay, so I'm seeing the new names thing in effect, and honestly, I have some concerns.

Yes, of course, it's going to take some getting used to, and being averse to change, yes, I'm uncomfortable with it... people I've known for years are going by aliases I'm unfamiliar with, but honestly, that's just me.

The REAL Problem is, this has the potential to result in some serious identity theft problems. If the actual names are close enough, a misleading alias could have some scammer masquerading as well-known artists... or even profitable little-known artists

Am I just being my usual paranoid, or is anyone else seeing a danger here?

Hey! SOOoooo... I've been wanting to get into digital art for a long time, and after an entire YEAR (more, really) of being almost totally locked up on art-block, I finally got around to upgrading this computer so it would work with the Wacom I've had sitting here for almost that entire year.

For some reason, it didn't wanna work with my old distro of Lunix and old windows compy is having HDD problems, so everything skips and stutters like crazy, so couldn't use it there either.
Gettting used to this new version and it's quirks and challenges, re-finding functions and such and getting more used to where everything is; more than a little annoying at times. Still worth it, because...


In short, I GOT A DRAWING TABLET!!1!eleven!!11111!


About as much as I've done with it is plug it in, open GIMP and then doodle on a blank page before closing it. That said, now I need to learn how to use it. All y'all artsy-folks out there, what's a long-time traditional-media artist need to know about shifting from pens and paper to drawing digitally?

Someone posted a journal about stalkers and creeps harassing them and said they blocked a whole bunch of them.
YAY! Stalkers and creeps who ruin other peoples' lives because they feel that they're more important than anyone else deserve no mercy!

I try to post a comment applauding the decision, only to find -I'M- on the block list. WTY?!

Think we've exchanged notes or comments a grand total of three times, one of them was handing off free cash to help, despite that being the ultimate last of the money I'd have for YEARS? I'm -HOPING- that's a simple mistake, soon to be corrected.. not counting on it.... whatever.. unwatching them.

Medium-length story short, if you're gonna block someone, at least have a reason for it.
Say so, say why, and unless someone is a complete and total troll, NOT doing so makes you the troll. It's childish and just says you're incapable of public interraction... get rid of your computer and go back to playing NES in your parents' basement because you're not grown up enough to be online.

Speaking of grown up, and communicating, still waiting on a plethora of commissions. Most are now YEARS Overdue, and I've given up hope on nearly all of them. More than a little burned at this point.
Been there, done it myself, and I can totally understand... RL is a MASTER of screwing up peoples' lives... it happens.

Communication is key.
Friends/trades/customers will be MUCH More understanding if they know you haven't dropped them.

Recently got a(nother) nasty surprise from a regular art thing I was part of, and the more I have to deal with the admin's lack-of-care, the more I just want to quit, so for now, art for their site is suspended... which means I need something else to inspire me to draw... which means I'm asking friends here for help.

Don't need money, commissions or thousands of adoring fans... just a reason to keep going and something fun to do.

Having a job again after a few years is GREAT for income... but it's a KILLER for art, so I'm really hurting here.
I need some motivation.

Interesting fact: "Nuke Journals" only destroys 5000 at a time.

Will be PM'ing folks to pester about important journals I've missed over the last 3/4 decade that I've been mostly dead.

What do you do to keep yourself motivated?
Seriously, I need all the help and hints and pointers I can get, because I've got stuff I've been sitting on for just ENTIRELY too long. Gettign things finished is a BANE for me. Got millions of ideas, and precious few ever see completion.

SOOoooo... how do YOU keep yourself focused?
