The reason I'm a writer.
General | Posted 14 years agoThomas Gray's "Elegy Wrote in a Country Courtyard" is the beautiful, moving piece of work that first inspired me to write nearly 14 years ago. Yes, 14 years ago- I first read this piece at the age of 5. I've always been on the over-intelligent side. :l
EDIT: Derp, here's a link for conveniece: http://www.luminarium.org/renascenc.....ons/gray1.html
Just a heads up, the language can get kinda archaic, using old techniques and less-common wording.

Cripes, I'm a nerd.
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I just found myself listening to the theme from The Last Unicorn while reading through an etymology dictionary. 'Tis the sign of a nerd, indeed...
A question.
General | Posted 14 years agoEver wondered how it would feel to be completely emotionless for a few days, then return to the complicated world of emotion in a sudden wave?

I'm an owl, but...

Currently, my Fursona, or Main OC is an: owl (Magellanic Horned Owl :3). But, I'm giving you the power to choose for me, because I'm curious what people identify me with!
Please let me know the reasons why you chose the new Fursona for me. Is it because it matches my personality? How I look? How I act?
Copy and paste this into your own journal with the headline "I'm a _____, but..." to see what people would say of you.
Ok, enough of the copy pasted parts. Seriously, what do all of YOU think?

Why do you do what you do?
General | Posted 14 years agoWhat makes you draw your pictures, or write your stories? Why do we all commit ourselves to creating these little works of art that we show to others, to mixed responses?
I write my stories (if you can call them stories, there's not really a plot line) because of how I can transmit my personal emotions into words, and make myself feel what I'm writing. I can put myself into my characters, as limited as they are, and give them semi-realistic emotions and personalities, despite the fact that they are almost always referred to as "He" or "She" and have no real purpose other than to anchor a meaning.
Lately, however, I've been wondering how effective words are at transferring the raw emotions I put into my writings. My writings are nothing special to me, but they always seem to receive praise on the few occasions that I allow the public to read them. I always view this praise with skepticism, because- again- my writings are simply random bits of inspiration that I manage to fold out into something bigger. This inspiration can come from a song, something someone says, something I see, or just a random branch in my train of thought, but I don't think I've ever had a serious commitment to something I've written.
So I was just wondering- and you can either answer this or simply muse over it as you go about your day-to-day life- why do people create art when emotions aren't always interpreted correctly? If I wrote a poem about finding joy at a funeral, about being happy for whoever had passed on, it could be interpreted as the subject of the poem being a morbid arsehole, laughing at a funeral. This is also why I usually keep my writings to myself, if I keep them at all. I'm not going to cut my chest open to have my heart be eaten by a buzzard...
Not saying that any of you are said buzzard, but the internet is a huge place. You never know who is going to see what you do, and I can almost guarantee that nobody will ever see your art the same way you do.
TL;DR I throw my writings away because people will never understand what they are to me.
Thanks for reading my little rant, if you went through the trouble to read the whole thing :P

New Headset

Bought this today, because I had $70 to throw around. Best purchase ever, games and music sound beautiful on 6-speaker surround sound and a built-in subwoofer. Also, they require a USB power source due to all this.

General | Posted 14 years agoA random person browsing some of my weaker writings today told me they're surprised I'm still single. What the hell does that even mean? xD
