End of an era
Posted 14 years agoAt the request of a producer/engineer friend of mine I will no longer be producing works in FLStudio. According to him it is easier to work with audio projects in Cakewalk so I am in process of switching over. It's going to be a little difficult for me at the start because I've used FLStudio for 8 years, and it's really all I know.
After about 5 hours total with the program I definitely feel it is a far superior DAW. Unfortunately because all my tracks were recorded in FL with Edison I have to start from scratch which will require me to push back the release date I had for Cack. It sucks but I really want to make sure this CD has as much quality as I can muster.
So for now I'll continue uploading older things because I'm totally active and what not. I'll also do requests. I've decided that I'm going to do that because it will be fun and allow me to learn the software faster.

A Good night
Posted 14 years agoI had a great night at the Beating tonight. I wish we still did them once a week but since the Cube has dissolved to extremely small portions, Ryngs only has them once a month now. That and the X stopped doing the Weekly Beating metal show which was a big part of the Beatings.
Got home afterward and got attacked (in a good way :D), and now I'm just sitting here listening to Gorillaz and basking in the afterglow. Yeah a little TMI I know but I wanted to stress what a great night I had. I haven't had a lot of those lately so I take them when I get them.
I need to clean the house tomorrow so I can get all the preparations together for Meggie's 26th birthday on Sunday. I got her a carrot cake (get it cause she's a bunny!) and a sweet card. She's really the best wife a guy could ask for. I think I'll write her a song.
Yep I'm going to write her a song. I'll post it up for you all to enjoy! Muah! I love all of you! <3

The talent pool
Posted 14 years agoI find myself increasingly jealous of artists. There's something about putting the pencil to paper and producing something beautiful that astounds me. It's a skill that I always wished I could develop, but was never able to really lock down. There are so many talented people in this fandom it just makes me squeal with delight. It's like going to a fancy art school only you never have to pay tuition.
Unproductive day. Sigh.
Posted 14 years agoI haven't done much today except browse FAF, and watching for new submissions. As far as the album goes I'm scrapping the previous Working Title vocals and guitar. I noticed the recordings weren't as up to snuff as I wanted so I'm going to try to get them a little tighter. In the meantime I'm also working on guitar and vocals for an older song that wasn't previously recorded. I hope I get it sounding the way I want it to.
Creativity
Posted 14 years agoI'm pretty amazed at the creative juices that have been flowing for me lately. I spent quite a while in a funk unable to produce anything that I felt had merit or substance. Hell I hadn't written a new song in like eight years which is kind of silly for someone who fancies himself a musician.
The Sordid Tale of Let Them Eat Cack
Posted 14 years agoIn 1998 I recorded a little LP under the name The Dancing Jesus Project called Let Them Eat Cack. Originally it was supposed to be a collaboration between myself and Jim Goza after we were inspired by a little group called Three Brain. We were both musicians, and had worked together on a couple of band projects but it was nothing major.
The Dancing Jesus Project was going to be our baby though. We were totally committed to it. Well I was totally committed to it, and I don't fault Jim at all. He just wasn't as interested in the project as I was. So after he split I continued on without him.
Inspiration for the group name came from a goofy animated .gif I had found on an image BBS that was simply titled dncinjc.gif. It was hilarious. A buddy Christ-like animated Jesus dancing like he didn't give a damn. We were both stumped for a band name and I mentioned the .gif and thus was birthed the DJP.
So I finished the recording in January of '99 and started getting to work making copies. In true Three Brain fashion I sped up the tracks to chipmunk speed for added hilarity, and wound up with a small local hit. The albums traveled around from hand to hand, and ear to ear. I started to hear people I didn't even know talking about it which was great.
Unfortunately in my haste to finalize the masters, I neglected to put mine and Jim's names in the WAV ID tags or in the CD's liner notes. So I had 150 copies of an album that was credited to no one. I had no idea who actually had the CD, and who had listened to it. My distribution method was literally leaving the CD in random places. Basically there was no way to give credit where it was due.
So flash forward to 2011 and I get a great idea. Why not re-record those old tracks. Only this time with the experience of someone who knows what they're doing, and to do it semi-professionally. The original had no direction. It was a musical stew that had rock, blues, acoustic, and classical as its ingredients. I don't mean mixed together to create a new genre. I mean every song was a different style. To say it was a train wreck would be speaking lightly.
I'll save the actual album story for another journal post as this one has gotten a bit tl:dr. This time around I'm actually going to use the random song structure to my advantage. As well as writing 5 brand new tracks to add to the original 9 bringing the total to 14, and EP Land. I hope everyone will enjoy listening to it, as much as I'm enjoying recording it. :)

In the studio
Posted 14 years agoSo I spent like, 5 hours in the studio today recording vocals for the album's single. It went pretty well, but my voice wasn't doing exactly what I was wanting it to do but in the end I was able to clean it up nicely. A+! The track is still pretty raw and I'm isn't done with it yet but I'm going to go ahead and upload the demo here so I'm pretty excited to present it all to you! Tomorrow will be another recording session laying down guitar work for the next couple of tracks so maybe in the next week or so you might see another demo!
